Questions about the six healing sounds.

Then pick your most comfortable position, free of distractions if possible... and see how it goes.

I am curious as to the order you follow (or taught in the materials).   I rarely see someone talk about why a particular order is important (or not).

And I don't quite mean, 'because it is the five element order'.

I dont know why Metal starts the series in the Five Phases. I usually start with Metal because that is what I was taught. Although my teacher did say you dont have to, there are various ways to do it for specific purposes.

As to a different way to do it....

In the material we are taught the following order:

The lung sound

The kidney sound

The heart sound

The liver sound

The spleen/pancrease sound

The Triple Warmer

Do they give a specific reason 'why' that order?

I have yet to go through ALL the material. It's a helluva lot. As of yet I haven't heard Michael say as to why it is done in that specific order.

The reason I would start with the Liver is that the Liver Qi is the most easily to scatter contaminate other organs... then progress through the Five Element Sequence.  Doing the liver later means you may dirty what you just cleaned...   JMO.

In the book QiGong Empowerment, they start with Liver/Wood as well.....

I usually start with the Liver because my Liver needs allot of help. Sounds like my body knew the way!

And light on the kidneys... they are usually already weak... more tonifying might be good.... but your right: Pay attention to your own body ;)

Michael says in his dvd, if you think about M Winn, that we begin with the breath, because when we are born we begin with the breath ... the second reason, it is easier to feel the breath of the lungs, air in and out, for the beginners ... and then to do so the other organs too ... so that is it, if I undersood it right ... but then, it is all up to each individual, we can do it in whatever sequence it reasonates with us ... that is just my opinion ...   ;)

Yep, I do that, too. Black light for kidneys eventually creates blue...sometimes. The kidney sound is a toughie, too! So many variations, all with more distinct differences then any other sound.

Great thread. Chunyi Lin makes a lot of use of the healing sounds in his book 'Everyday Healing', where they are combined with massages of key points and other gentle exercises. This I see as a way to add value to, say, an accupoint maasage.

Also, Im considering changing my name to Dragon Roargasm, cause that is awesome ;)

This may be of some help. It is from my article for Qi Journal, which is also online at http://www.qi-journal.com/Qigong.asp?Name=Six%20Healing%20Sounds&-token.D=Article

Movements With the Sounds

Many teachers and schools have accompanying movements to help direct the qi throughout the organs and meridian systems. There is little or no standardization with this, other than perhaps what is given in the 2007 text/DVD Chinese Health Qigong LiuZiJue. (There is a link to it in the Web Sites given below.) Grandmasters Mantak Chia, Kenneth Cohen, Michael Winn, Jesse Tsao, Wang Xuejun, and others have important DVDs and video clips as well(see the section For Further Study later).

However, the serious student may wish to create their own original movements by returning to the original movements of the Wu Xing, the Five Elemental Phases of Energy. As in: Wood (Trees) grow upward. Fire expands in all directions, Earth expands horizontally. Metal contracts and contains. Water flows downward. The movements for the Triple Burner echo an up and down for the organs of the torso. It is not difficult to improvise graceful dance-like movements when working with the sounds; and that could increase and enhance their benefits. It can be much fun too.
