So, lineage for the student who wants the whole package, modern teachings for the modern person.? -
What's the use of schools and lineages within Taoism in the Modern World?
Mudfoot replied to wandelaar's topic in Daoist Discussion
You teach the methods that makes you experience that for yourself. Which is the purpose of schools and lineages. The school for teaching, the unbroken lineage as a proof that your method works. And if your teacher or his/her teacher fails to show the results they claim you should get, you might want to get out of there. -
Like Yang Jwing-Ming. IF I remember right, his entire book on "taiji chin-na" turned out being a book about White Crane techs. And Bruce Frantzis makes a big thing on the difference between "swallow and spit" which he claims is a Shaolin method, while taiji is supposed to use a method where you can do both at the same time. Been some time though, so I have forgotten the details of that discussion.

Mantak Chia - Looking For A Clear Picture
Mudfoot replied to Steven King's topic in Systems and Teachers of
Cuddy and the rest of the first wave of researchers on "power stances" have had to admit that their results cannot be replicated. In social psychology, this has becomed a sad joke. -
You can read a bit about Shaolin Nei Jin(g) Yi Zhi Chan in my ppd. It is buddhist, in the sense that you can get a grip on tings like impermanence and the nature of the mind. But you will also find a lot of stuff there that you also would find in a daoist tradition, or for that matter in many systems originating around the Himalayas. You just have to move beyond the confusion created by language, culture, and the need to be special.

Dantiens and Chakras - the same or different?
Mudfoot replied to amoyaan's topic in General Discussion
And doing research beyond a quick Google is also a great thing, especially since neither the Chinese or the indo-tibetan tradition are homogenous in how they do things. If you look hard enough, you will Always find a handful of (unrelated?) traditions that share whatever viewpoint. And Yin is more than Earth. Although, as you say, that only matters if you have a firm grasp of a practice where this matters. And after that, comparison becomes interesting. -

This cross-cultural model have a good fit for my practice. -
Dantiens and Chakras - the same or different?

But where the influence of two chakras overlap, you will find a dantian. Again, depending on where you believe they are situated, and which function you assign to them. -
Dantiens and Chakras - the same or different?
Mudfoot replied to amoyaan's topic in General Discussion
In this topic, it depends... Do you take the Heart center or the Yellow court, midway between your heart and navel, as your MDT? And do you place the Manipura chakra at the navel or at the solar plexus? And the swadhiwhatever to be at the LDT or closer to the genitals/perineum? And do you place the LDT behind the navel or further down? All of these are possible locations, depending on teacher and tradition. The Ajna and the Niwan are generally located in the same spot, but I am certain you can find some source that disagree. In my practice, the LDT is not a chakra, it is an area between the chakras where Red Bindu is stored. But hey, there is disagreement about that as well 😀 The Heart center would be a chakra, feeling similar to the other chakras. And the Ajna, well there it gets more complicated at least in my practice. Feel free to disagree. -
And a common way to experience this is to work with the heart center. So does the text speak about the method, or the result?
-
I do not follow that book, but what I stated above is a part of my actual practice. Don't use those terms though.
-
Actually, infered from the quotes above, it is possible. Maybe not from the full context, that is another matter. But do you have a better interpretation, or do you just have no?
-
No it is not. The first part states it is the heart, the MDT. The Golden court might as well refere to niwan, from the quote above. And the chamber of water might also be in the head. So, still a matter of interpretation.

Center amidst conditions could be interpreted as the empty space within the ring of yin-yang. As in this LDT image. But, as in all these books, it might be a code for whatever, and thus up to interpretation. And I obviously placed the picture inside the quote.

David Verdesi might be interesting. Going from mo'power to : I think this is an interesting shift, and an interview based on this might be interesting. But questions might have to avoid some of the history surrounding him (that was diplomatic).

About the eternal discussions on real fights and traditional martial arts
Mudfoot replied to oranssi's topic in General Discussion
I am sure most asian teachers today are aware of the risc of their Western students filming themselves on their hotel room after class, and having a contract with their editor before sitting on the plane home. Annoying for them, interesting books for the rest of us.- 48 replies

David Verdesi on the subject.

Sometimes TDB can be a critical place, mainly because of the huge amount of experience ammensed here. And that experience that makes a teacher seem really special within a school is rather common here, where there are teachers galore. Now it has been 20 years since I messed around with a katana, and I never progressed beyond the basic level, but that grip has not been on the "do"-list in any book I ever had on the subject nor been advocated by any teacher I ever had the opportunity to practice under. But there are many ryu in Japan 🏯 and many levels of skill, so......

Because everywhere else on the site, everything and everybody can be questioned, but that might create difficulties in a spot for "recognized teachers".

And they can describe themselves in their own PPD section.

There are more energetic centers than the LDT.
