Warning: Don't watch or read this while fasting lol. I happened upon Almazan Kitchen while researching recipes and techniques for camping cooking techniques. I've now watched everything they've posted and accomodated many new techniques. It's pure simplicity and joy to watch a master in his element. Part cooking show, part nature appreciation, part ASMR channel. The location features as heavily as the food. Kitchen is integrated in nature. What stands out and I deeply appreciate, is that there are no explanations of recipes, no speaking at all really, just pure video of his process with the sounds of the fire, the sizzling fats and the waterfall nearby. Pure food porn at its finest. Here's the first one I encountered. Enjoy!

Love that cam! Have you tuned in to the Grizzly cam at Brooks Falls in Katmai? Amazing during the Salmon runs!

There's a size limit to the files @zerostao. I usually have to resize my pics to share them or the software rejects them.

You are one of the few other people I've encountered who speaks of coffee with a similar reverence to how I feel about it.- 42 replies

Epic Food Appreciation/Outdoor Cooking Masters
silent thunder replied to silent thunder's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I still vividly recall the cup of coffee that changed my brain chemistry permanently. It was an awakening experience to realize what coffee is capable of being when made with skill and deep knowledge. It's wholly unlike every other coffee experience I'd had up until that time. I had gone to a friend's house and we were settling in to play a game when his Mum stopped in and asked if I'd like a coffee... I casually said yes please and had no idea what was coming. A bit later she set a cup in front of me and walked away. I took one sip and my world paused, is the only way to describe it. My eyes widened and I stared at my buddy dumbfounded, he (at the time youngest exec chef in NYC) said casually, 'yea, mom has mastered incredible Turkish coffee'. I wordlessly stood up and walked into the kitchen and gave her a hug and asked " HOW did you do that with coffee beans and water?!?!" I made myself her student. They are from the Ukraine and moved to the US fleeing trouble in that region in the late 80's. She showed me her ibrik and what she did and to this day I still try to emulate what she casually mastered. Coffee since that day is to me one of the more underrated and overlooked joys of life.- 42 replies

I was drawn to the sword, then noticed the tiger and finally... the drum mag. Check, check and check! edit to add: and at a glance my son said... that's a ppsh 41, soviet smg ww2 model, made at the end of the war after the 31 with a forward moving action. (he approves)

But how much of our actions are by choice?
silent thunder replied to Elysium's topic in General Discussion
My experience has for some two decades now been that what folks refer to as choice is actually conditioned response to stimulus that occurs beneath the threshhold of personality consciousness. After we process the conditioned response, if we analyze it, we then call this making a choice or a demonstration of free will. I do not experience free will or choice in local awareness. -

Opinion on "Mind-Altering Substances"?
silent thunder replied to Unlearner's topic in General Discussion
Interesting to revisit some old conversations after a spell.. Have yet to encounter a mind altering influence more powerful than love or it's twin, hate. and g'tummo, that one is a close second... -

@Nungali I've always admired the archetype of The Joseph for fulfilling what I find to be one of the more challenging roles in familial life... the 'step parent'. Always the addition. I sometimes wonder if Jesus ever turned to him in annoyance and shot out "You can't tell me what to do! You're not my real Dad!"
