  1. Discussing Tao with the "science"-minded

It's kind of flattering to give me this kind of credit, but nope, most of my speech isn't that altruistic. I've got no desire to change anyone. I share openly out of a desire to be entertained, and to be enlightened. I very well might change my mind, but I don't hold or expect the same for others. If they find benefit, awesome, but I don't hold that intention in my sharing. It leads to taking things personally when disagreements naturally arise and then communication shuts down as listening takes a nose dive into thinking up good defenses for a position. It also leads to a preachy tone in person that is usually one of the quick signs for me, that a conversation will be short. As for 'yes game' conversations... I haven't run into too many of those on the internet, nor in my live conversations between theists and non-theists or agnostics... But I will say that Taoism is one of the few 'religiously tinged' philosophies that I can hold some very compelling and lengthy conversations with scientists about without things derailing into name calling and logical fallacy.
  2. Discussing Tao with the "science"-minded

I stopped being interested in trying to change anyone's mind... that went a long way in making things more pleasant all around. Now I participate in interesting and respectful conversations, if they're not pleasant, respectful or interesting... I leave. No harm, no foul.
  3. UNDENIABLE PROOF: BELGIAN UFO WAVE

    snow angels...
  4. Discussing Tao with the "science"-minded

Perhaps... as long as they're open minded skeptics and not the usual skedicks running all over... they're as bad as the fundies to me. edit: spelling grrrr
  5. What if the universe was to end?

do we really always think we have more time?
  6. Tarot Set for Advanced

I'd say for the very advanced... the entirely blank deck.
  7. What qigong dance music are you listening to?

    I love Roth's stuff! She's awesome.
  8. You don't gain anything from empowerments

hmm, I'd say neither... I still have three pieces of a puzzle, although my perspective of the pieces has changed... Not sure if that's gaining or shifting, feels more like shifting, unless I obsess mentally on the image, then I've gained mental baggage.
  9. [TTC Study] Chapter 30 of the Tao Teh Ching

I agree, the implication of this missing line is important. relates for me, to the dandelion principle inherent in violence... I go to my lawn and kick the living crud out of the dandelions and next year... there are many many more...
  10. UNDENIABLE PROOF: BELGIAN UFO WAVE

Cool topic. I'm agnostic about UFO's since I've never experienced one, but my pure logic tells me the numbers are on the side of lots and lots of intelligent life swarming the universe. Some of the most compelling 'testimony' aka relating personal experience for me personally, comes from Edgar Mitchell and Gordon Cooper and a few others of their ilk. I also recall the old Canadian Defense Minister having several interviews in which he openly discusses the reality of aliens. Fun stuff to ponder. I waffle on whether I think there are actual physical crafts, traveling immense distances, or if perhaps the other 99% of the universe we can't yet perceive can change vibration temporarily and interact with, or observe us...
  11. Earthly sage and mystical Immortal

and I ain't no senators son.... though I do consider myself a fortunate one.
  12. Shiitake mushrooms and qi

going to try this next time I feel the bug grabbing me... thanks
  13. Discussing Tao with the "science"-minded

I don't really give a feck... but I do enjoy it. It's at the very least... a feck-ton better than watching tv...
  14. Discussing Tao with the "science"-minded

Yea, as far as I know Hawking only had that one big public change of mind... But how many times does someone have the integrity to change their mind on that scale, about something they've published in a widely popular book and decades of interview responses? As for Spirit not being part of the picture... I can't agree with that one... I can't find a single thing, conceivable or not, that isn't spiritual, or rather, doesn't have a spiritual aspect. But that's just my experience.
  15. You don't gain anything from empowerments

Is it gaining responsibility? Or is it losing aspects of yourself that kept you from being the person who fulfills what they see, what needs to be done.
  16. Discussing Tao with the "science"-minded

he's also changed his mind... sure mark of intelligence and wisdom to be able to change your thinking about something in the face of new information or new understanding...
  17. How do we know what's yin and what's yang . Really.

at this point... it's pretty obvious that someone is trying to see just how long they can draw out nonsense and keep people responding... I'm all for interesting debate, and deep, meaningful conversation, but it appears that's all done here...
  18. meditation on the wuji center

adding it to the list now... thanks!
  19. meditation on the wuji center

    Very, very cool. Thanks!
  20. For married and cohabiting Bums - on sharing chores

every once in a while one or the other of us, will simply say... 'look, I need some time to either, be by myself, or hang out with our son, so I'm taking the night/day off, can you cover the rest?' it works great for us. we've also gotten good at communicating what we are feeling before it gets to the resentment stage, if things tend to go too far in one direction for a while.
  21. What exactly is the mind and where is it located ?

I agree, the word law really only applies to the human element. For Nature, instead of law, I think condition is more approrpiate.
  22. You don't gain anything from empowerments

This sure does resonate with my experience. Losing stuff big time and really benefiting from it in an improved quality of life day by day, sort of way.
  23. For married and cohabiting Bums - on sharing chores

Everyone has different skills, though nothing around our house is so complex that we can't both do it. So I'd say our versatility is pretty even when it comes to home maintenance. Nothing terribly difficult in mowing the grass, or taking out the trash, or unclogging the garbage disposal. She leaves the carpentry to me, but that's because I'm a master carpenter and while I'm an accomplished baker, I leave that to her, since she's mastered that, though in a pinch either of us would be able to get the basics done. We cook together, but this wasn't always so, she used to do all the cooking. Recently though, I have wanted to get involved in that, it's been awesome to spend that time together co-creating our meals. Our son gets involved a bit too now, on his own, seeing how much fun we're having. Neither of us touch the plumbing or the electricity... sometimes it's best to know when to call someone who really knows what they're doing. After my dad's death last spring, I was gone for about 5 weeks across the country tying up his estate and came home to the same home I left. Nothing was left undone. Perhaps you are just very skilled in a wide variety of areas compared to most people? So it seems unbalanced to you... or perhaps she's just not inclined to do those things, since you've taken the lead on them. Have you approached her if you feel things are unfair? Or is this just purely a curious inquiry?
  24. Runes

My Runes are made from a Sequoia branch and each Rune was cut in order of progression, starting from the trunk and moving outward. Engraved and painted, a small portion of my blood was mingled into the paint to charge and connect them.
