Life Doesn't Give a Damn, So Why The Hell Should We?
rookie replied to Stigweard's topic in General Discussion
Well this is a late entry into this discussion and I have not read the entire thread, but I think there is something fundamental here, so I will add a point to it. First, this is one of the biggest questions one could ask, and what real headway will be made on a free for all discussion board? well, probably not a lot, but consider this. Fundamental to the question is the assumption that there is a thing, intelligence, force, sentience or "something" called "life" that may or may not care about another thing, ..., called "you". Now most people will not give this a second thought, but that shows just how invisible this belief system is. Any logical conclusions made with this assumption in place will be a product of it, and dare I say untrue. If one is truely after truth, starting by examining your assumptions about "life" and "you" is essential. When you run into conflicts that cannot be resolved there is no way to proceed but to examine what you have assumed to be true, or give up and remain befuddled or in delusion. So I would first ask, what is this called "life"? What is this called "me"? But if you do not ask this now, just keep going and you will have to ask it sooner or later. Really, this is the fundamental illusion of all time. And this is probably a life long inquiry if it is taken up. SO have fun! LOL -
New Mexico Daoist Workshops - DAOIST IMMERSION - LIVIA KOHN
rookie replied to Stigweard's topic in General Discussion
This ia a great picture of the Sandia mountains, but doesn't show the sprawl of Albuquerque in the valley below (to the right at the bottom of the tram). There are however awesome sunsets and the city lights in summer evenings are pretty cool. Where exactly is Bear mountain? Ralis, just as a reality check, Santa Fe is one of the most expensive places to live in the US. Your concern for people affording the tuition is interesting. I'll give you my kunlun book for free if you can't afford one, but I can't help you with an animal skin though LOL I know that most local kids that grow up in Santa Fe cannot afford to stay there because of the cost of living. Don't know about your situation. I wouldn't spend 850 on Kohn, although I have several of her books and they seem better than most. I would get more out of a few days in the wilderness in a tent :0) Maybe I'll put her books up for sale ..... I am begining to wonder if you can learn any of this from anyone, really..... or if all learning comes from within -
Thanks for the work on that, but that is the wrong one... Just the regular ole gospel of John, when he is basically giving last instructions to his deciples the night before his death.

Are "repeatable" spiritual paths, simply a myth ?
rookie replied to ThisLife's topic in General Discussion
short answer, no. otherwise why have teachers? but eventually you have to fly out of the nest. -
Who is a Christian here and believes in JESUS CHRIST?
rookie replied to Spirit Ape's topic in General Discussion
they'll probably consider you a religous taoist, like, whoo was he, Mak_Tin_Si? Was this guy a unix uxer? why the underscores -
The gospel of John, 14 through 16.

I have no choice. It is pretty cool to find others with similar answers. I will add that if I take a hiatus for a while, with various diversions, they play right in.

Who is a Christian here and believes in JESUS CHRIST?
rookie replied to Spirit Ape's topic in General Discussion
Christianity is not what Jesus taught. It was organized after his death. So in that sense, no, I don't buy into any complete Christian doctrine. His word for God, the father was "Abba" which best translates as "Daddy" But some of his teaching is part of my foundation, and it is natural for me becasue I was raised a christian. Later I found an understanding of the apostle Paul's teaching that is profound.... Forgive me because some of the things I will quote next are paraphrased... I am the truth, the way, and the life I am the vine and you are the branches Be perfect, as your father in heaven is perfect These things I do, so also you shall do, and greater Fear not little flock, for it is your fathers pleasure to give you the kingdom I condem thee not. Go and sin no more just a lot of good stuff I believe he turned water into wine, healed the sick, raised Lazurus from the dead, and showed us how to live Do I believe he acsended in his body and reappeared in the flesh after that? nah, not really Do I believe he sent a "helper" (read holy ghost)? yes, very much I do Paul has been misunderstood by most I think. From Paul: I live, yet not I, but Christ lives in me Thy grace is my sufficiency in all things But get this, his main theme was you are already saved. There is nothing you can do. You cannot get into heaven by "works" but by faith...read acceptance that you already are there Being good will never get you there All the christian trappings set aside this is profound You cannot take heaven by storm Jesus really gave himself, to life, to all of life. I am pitiful in comparison. But I keep on truckin and live and love better, and get a few glimpses as I go -
I can share some experience with you for what it is worth. Recognition is important, so some means of integrating and understanding what is happening during your process is needed. But it is a tricky process. Like a paradox. You can't try too hard because that will keep you in the trying or seeking mode. When what you want is the being mode. So trying, cultivating, for me, is like a health habit. Like exercise for the body, healthy diet. rest, qigong for the body/energy system, some meditative practice for letting the noise die down. These are good things but not it. Can't be taken too seriously. they help but none are really necessary for attainment. Attainment is in conciousness. When it comes to talking about experiences, the problem is identifying with them, which is more likely to happen when discussing them with anyone except a good teacher who can help with perspective. Otherwise they can be "my experiences" which the ego can use to define how special and advanced it is If the experiences are just matter of fact, no big deal to you, then no big deal talking about them.

not picking on you at all dude, nobody's on trial, and I understand that simplified statements do not carry all the required assumptions with them to show they are technically correct. I quoted your post only because it had some relevant technal info in it I am putting info out there for the general readers that may not be that familiar with the physics of electromagnetic waves. and this is more about helping general readers understand that in terms of known physics there is no way a pendant you hang on your chest can shield you from em radiation or store up this energy that would have to be "washed out" later. If that were to happen it is something other than em radiation. Plus it is interesting and fun to think and talk about ........... for example, in what way can an em wave store energy, in the sense that you would capture energy from the wave and be able to release it later, also as a wave, without the injection of other forms of energy?

thanks for that I really did get a good laugh frome reading it and wasn't at all sure what your meaning was Still makes me laugh It is interesting that you use the word "trickster". I was talking to a friend about an experience of the transformation from personal to impersonal and I saw a coyote trot right on by, beautiful, fluffy tail, confident, not in a hurry,..... she suggested I look up its meaning in native american traditions, which I know nothing about .......looked it up online and it is considered a trickster, transformer, ....... I appreciate your passing on the technique of the trickster I will play with it (bows hand in fist)

Anything different will probably be labeled new age by someone these days. But everything was once new.

If I plow a field, plant seed, remove the udesired weeds, water, discourage insects whatever, then can I say I grew these crops?

To shield an area from an electro-magnetic wave requires either reflection or absorption. A solid metal will reflect mostly and absorb very little. But this depends on the frequency. A high frequency wave like that coming from your cell phone is in the 1-3 Ghz range and will not penetrate very far into a metal. Ever heard of skin-depth? A lower frequency wave, like the power line will actually penetrate deeper into the metal and can actually pass through it, emerging from the other side attenuated if the metal is thin enough. Water itself does not absorb em radiation very well unless it has something like salt in it. It reflects very little otherwise there would be no light in the sea during the day. It would be always dark. It absorbs light (a high frequency em wave) or the depths of the ocean would not be dark. Very low frequency waves will travel through the earth and the sea and is one of the ways submarines communicate electronically. A wire mesh is only effective against frequencies with wavelengths quite a bit longer than the hole in the mesh. Otherwise a mesh would block visible light out, The proper name for this interfering radiation is EMI, electro magnetic interference. It is everywhere.

exactly, the only real protection is to enclose yourself in a protective enclosure
-
Does this have to take the form of projecting energy?
-
It is a response to the call to return to your true self. Although there are many forms, this is the one that resonates with me.
-
If you are concerned about electro-magnetic field rediation, there is virtually no way these small pendants could do much to protect you from the waves all around you in most enviornments.
-
Just be careful.

What Are Some Aspects from taoism That you can apply to your everday Life?
rookie replied to The Genuine Article's topic in General Discussion
There is far to much to "taoism" to apply "all of them" to anyones life But I get your point anyway. -
you go dude, explore that three way karma I mean ROFL sorry I couldn't resist Hope it works out for you and all involved Personally, I could not even date two at the same time when I was single.

How about the fire in Austrailia?
-
Well maybe the lesser among us could get our vectors pointing in pretty much the same direction and have a greater combined effect I think it is a great idea phore The power of intent is real
-
It can more easily inflate it. When one gets good at anything it is easy to let the ego take over with its "see how great I am" feeling.
