  3. Joint Popping

where do you find this stuff
  4. Joint Popping

Gas released from joints? What is holding the gas in? Which joints are sealed so they can hold gas and then release it so fast that it would make a sound wave? Where does the gas go upon release? hmmmmmm
  5. America, America

that's actually pretty funny! good fodder for the haters I'll bet that other cultures are very similar, but I know our best. It is pathetic. We go Bush for two terms then Obama! That's bipolar, or swallowing whatever is fed to us by the mass media. Now Obama is an instant celibrity. I'll tell you this. If he really cares about civil rights he will immediately go to work on repealing the Patriot Act. All Americans have had their civil rights severely diminished by this shamefull fear based power play of the Bush administration. I'll bet he doesn't touch it. Not good politics He is a politician/celibrity first. There you go. Now we're into politics

Darin Hammel So dude, I have to ask you how you were able to hold off on money and power until you were 40? The sex thing can be a number of things or circumstances. But money and power are a basic part of being an adult and responsible for yourself. So I just don't know how this could happen except for something like, being in an institution, a coma, a monastery, or some situation where you were not in control of the decision making in your day to day affairs. You seem sane, and reasonable for the most part, so I am curious what the truth fo your situation is. After that, I wonder why you believe why that is an advantage? Usually the young adult years are very formative. Some level of experimenting, finding your place in the world, who you are in relation to the opposite sex, learning how to relate in all the different ways, student, employee, lover, friend, dumper, dumpee, whatever life brings you. Struggle, learning, followed by mastery after a few cycles, this is the natural way, yes? So I wonder how does abstaining from life for 22 years help get you in a position to handle these things better?
  7. What is the new age movement? Anything that doesn't fit into any other classification? Or just any new idea?
  8. En*light*enment

right on when I think of power, I can convince myself that the right use of power is power over myself. This is necessary to a dergee, but there is a way of acting and being that is effortles and doesn't require any power. when I am not in that state, what is required to return to it? not power, but the opposite, letting go letting go of whatever I have become fixated on, judged, resisted. These are blocks within myself, blockages of energy so that I feel them in my body (reflecting light, casting shadows) pulling me from the free flow. learning happens if I am to flow I cannot attach many habits will want to attach get stuck notice -sooner or later- let go-eventually flow repeat a couple of passages from st paul... i live, yet not i, but christ lives in me thy grace is my sufficiency in all things so, to me, this is letting it happen i do not feel any exercise of power these highest states are not power states maybe i will be lucky and be able to do it all the time
  9. En*light*enment

DarinHamel It is the desire for power that will hold you back. What have you found in your daoist studies about attachment? This is an honest question because I only read translations, and no that many of them either. What I have read suggests being in a desireless state, not prefering one thing over another, being in balance and harmony with what is (the dao) is "the way". I am not without money or power by the way, so I not fit your stereotype. Without attachment, things go pretty well it seems to me. I percieve a need. I use energy or money to fulfill it. Great. No biggie. No attachment. If I don't have enough, then I could dream up a way, a plan, to achieve it. Great. No problem. If it is beyond anything I can dream up, then it is accepted as it is, possibly studied with other plans forthcoming..... This is the natural way, yes?
  10. En*light*enment

There is nothing wrong with power itself. It is who and how, that can be the problem. Since the theme here is enlightenment, I would redirect back to this topic. Loss of the ego self, or of the belief that you are the ego, is a common thread in the descriptions of enlightenment. Personal suffering due to the dissolving of this sense of ego self is common as well. So what is your power for? To protect your ego? Good health is pleasant My tendons are very thankful for some of the qigong I practice. Feeling good with lots of energy is pleasant Some enlightened beings seem to be able to enjoy anything that happens and understand that resistance to anything is an incorrect orientation. So what is your power for? Why would one pursue it so keenly? or so much of it?
  11. En*light*enment

Ya Mu, You are right, that is too general. More specifically I would say that enlightened beings seem to loose the desire to exercise power, especially for personal reasons. I don't know much about the Buddha, but the teachings seem to lead one towards humility, not the accumulation of power. Weren't his first followers required to beg for a living basically? Jesus worked miracles for the benefit of others but would not use power to save his own skin. Richard Rose after awakening raised a family, lived a humble life, then decided that helping others achieve awakening was the best thing to do, but no exercise of power for personal means. There are several other contemporary awakened people that fit this description. Adyashanti said something that stuck with me, paraphrased as, "It takes you. You don't do it or earn it. Awakening is an act of grace." Awakening can happen to people with no spiritual practice or spiritual inclination, and even some who one would not suppose "deserve" it. In my personal experience-not awakening according to other descriptions, but expansive states, instantly collapse with the first thought of the self. And these states happen. I do not create them. They are completely joyfull and free. And free of any self conciousness. So it is the pursuit of power for ego satisfaction that is contrary to enlightenment I would say. I can say that for myself, the pursuit of power would be a pure egotistical game and incompatible with the higher energy states that I would assume approach enlightenment.
  12. En*light*enment

you are very defensive This thread is about enlightenment and I am pointing that the pursuit of power isn't the way Your ego is your biggest problem (this is pretty much true of everyone) But maybe that is your way to enlightenment, as lightbringer says I'll give you that much
  13. En*light*enment

See what I mean, power! power! power! you seem to be on an incredible power trip Starjumper what weakness is the accumulation of power trying to compensate for? where does the accumulation of power appear in the dao de jing? Mastrey of oneself does not imply power. Following the dao, sensing it, acting in accord with it, does not require the accumulation of power.
  14. En*light*enment

So any ego game is as good as any other? we just play on until we are weary and then "instant enlightenment" And you are saying that ego games are the path to enlightenment.....hmmmm...
  15. Demons

How about struggling with your demons? Somehow internal struggles are often projected, disowned, and can be seen as a completely independent entity. Then you can remain innocent. The demon is no longer you. God no, how could it be
  16. En*light*enment

There seems to be quite an emphasis on energy or power, and remember power=d(energy)/d(time) That is, how fast you can release energy or do work. But isn't it true that those truely enlightened beings completely relinquished power in the world? It seems to me that the pursuit of power, or more energy, is not going to get you to enlightenment. While there seems to be a correlation between energy states and conciousness, pursuing power for the sake of power is an ego game, and we all know what that means
  17. Your questions about Virtue

Well the obvious question is what is virtue from a taoist perspective, contrasted to virtue from a western perspective (assuming most listening will be westerners). This would require something of the world view of doaism to be presented as well, I would think.
  18. Female Chi Kung / Taoist masters

May I ask why you consider her to be a master? Do you have any direct experience?
  19. Normals Just Don't Care...

You should look for women (girls ) who share some of your spiritual beliefs. Be yourself. Don't try and reel in a "normal" who is from a way too different tribe. I would also say don't second guess yourself. Stay true but find someone compatible. SLow down and take it easy. Take your mind off of it and enjoy life a little.
  20. Daddy Issues and Taoist Psychology

Is there such a thing as taoist psychology? I read in Ken Choen's book that the Chineese do not really recognize psychological problems. A mental health issue would be looked on as having a problem with one of the organs, for example, not the thinking, beliefs from conditioning, trauma, etc. So maybe your "Taoist psychology" answer would be take this herb, do this exercise, or maybe send me $70 for a FU
  21. Proving "Group consciousness"

cool If you never look, you will not find.
  22. WOW!

    far out man
  23. You heard it here first

congrats being there when another being enters this world is truely a mystical experience if you are paying attention. I wish for you and your family health and happiness Thanks for sharing your joy
  24. Mak_Tin_Si

I would like to have seen Mak focus more on this (quoting him from a different post): "FU can let you master all the energys in nature through out trianings and also lead you to realization of tao. It also help you or lead you to realization of different dimensions that exsist such as the one of immortals and gods, which you can never proof with any science tools or your bare eye. It can also allwo you to experience karma and many other laws of nature." But he didn't even bring this out until he was challenged. He seems more interested in spreading the every day FU, which is little more than superstition. To go around thinking that if I accidently step in dog poo I will need some Daoist master to send me some FU is willing enslavement. But all religions require the acceptance of some beliefs. That is why I cannot belong to any religion. I would like to see a study done on Mak's group he services. Are they healthier, happier, have fewer problems, fewer accidents, etc than other similiar populations? Is there a religious studies major or sociology major out there needing a thesis topic Who ya gonna call? FU BUSTERS
  25. Hey there I can assure you that the mind is to the true self just as the body is to the true self. Without it you wouldn't be human, or just in a vegitative state. They are both required for functioning in the world. What is normally considered the self is just a collection of beliefs and thoughts. It is your "self-image" or persona, or what you think you are. Well, that can change radically. Has your true self then changed radically too? Hope not I probably shouldn't have said "assure" in there, because you must find this in your experience. Realize that I have not equated awareness with mind. You can be aware without thinking. Mind is what thinks as I use the word here. If you try and separate awareness from the self, then you have a problem peace
