Much depends on how and which methods a person practices. From my experience, I can say that some of my students, who practiced under my leadership, could prepare themselves for a traditional retreat in one year. During the year, they had to practice special methods of Minggong and Xinggong and to pass a usual retreat like this Those students that have not been very diligent, could not prepare themselves for a traditional retreat even in a few years. Therefore, I am careful with letting people come to a traditional retreat, and if a person does not have enough experience, I do not accept his/her application.

What is potential in terms of Taoist practices?
Vitalii replied to Songtsan's topic in Daoist Discussion
Inner Alchemy methods allow to penetrate into the depths of essential Being. Through study and comprehension of inner world in a state of peace and quietness, we penetrate into the mysteries of Being. Methods of Inner Alchemy will help to return to the roots, to touch original (“divine”) nature and direct own knowledge to understanding and connection with the truth (with Dao). Therefore, it becomes possible to understand the world deeper, and to result in a more adequate interaction with the outside world. A Master who attained perfection by practicing techniques of Inner Alchemy is called the “Immortal \ Inhabitant of heaven \ Saint” (仙 – «Xian”). http://zhendaopai.com/inner-alchemy/ Maximal result is understood herein as transformation of body, life energy and Consciousness/Spirit/Mind, and their merging, which is called as attainment of the Body of Light. Such a level is regarded as ultimate not only in Daoist tradition, but also in some of Buddhist schools. It means that on this level, a person exists in expressed as well as in unexpressed way, is one whole with Dao and, meantime, is individual, went beyond all possible limitations (e.g., of time and space). When such a Master leaves this world, he dissolves in a Clear Light with an iridescent shine. In such a transformation, even a physical body is converted into a clear energy, which means that after the Master passes nothing is left after him. This Great Way is also called as “Neidan”, or the “Great Way of Inner Alchemy”. It is the most complicated, and its studying and, consequently, realization is possible for people with great aptitude only. http://zhendaopai.com/great-way/ -
I wrote a big article about Wang Chongyang and history of Quanzhen. when I publish it on my website I will give link here.

"The head of the Daoist School Zhen Dao outside the territory of China is Vitalii Lishchyna." "At the moment Master Lu Shiyang (吕實陽) is the Grandmaster of the School." In my school, very high requirements to students who want to be teachers are set. They should be able not only to know well the Daoist theory and perform well in a variety of exercises and meditative practices, but also have a high level of virtue and pure heart. I make very strict exams in all disciplines that I teach, and particular attention is paid to the practice of internal alchemy and understanding of the Daoist philosophy.

because they are sufficiently prepared for such a program. Isimsiz Biri, you can think what you want. in reality, my students are very satisfied their results after the retreat, and they want a more prolonged retreat.

I am sorry, but I do not understand what you are talking. My Master lives as a hermit in the mountains and he has other senior students. Sorry, but I did not ask you to do it. you can find more information about me here

If a person puts into practice a following principles: To live a just and sincere life according to moral principles (not to kill, not to deceive, not to steal, not to use foul language etc.). To develop in oneself such virtuous features as compassion, love, forgiveness, courage, peace, generosity and others. Not to do, not to say, and not to think about anything that could harm a human or the Nature in general. To help with ideas, words and actions to those who need it, whether they are humans, animals or plants. To hold in esteem and respect not only those whom you love and care about, but all living creatures. ... P.S. Immortal Lu Dongbin said: "Many who claim to cultivate the Dao still possess egotistical thought. Where there is ego, the true heart cannot emerge. It is only in stillness and the absence of craving that original nature can be cultivated." -- Seven Daoist Masters-- A folk novel of China

"People engaged in self-cultivation should avoid discussing others' strengths and weaknesses or right or wrong, as well as the ups and downs of society and all worldly affairs". _______________ Daoist wisdom

Russian followers of Wuliupai used my photo + photoshop to prove that I'm fat. This photo was taken by them from the forum of Russian followers of Wuliupai. Here are my real photos where anyone can see how I really look. Anyway, if any person is big, or fat, or tall, does it mean that a person cannot be Daoist master? As for the cost of the retreats, none of them has ever cost such an astronomical sum.

Shanlun, I did not denigrate this book. I wrote that "7 Taoist Masters" is a nice book, but it is a folk novel, so you should not consider it as a historical reference book. if I did not like this book I would not translated and published it. "Seven Taoist Masters: A Folk Novel of China. The authorship of Seven Taoist Masters is unknown. The literary style suggest that it was written during the middle part of the Ming dynasty (circa 1500)." Eva Wong. yes, this is a book about real people, but it contains historical inaccuracies. for example, Liu Changsheng (劉長生) could not meet with Bodhidharma because they lived in different historical periods.

道教重要思想与教义(Taoist Important Thoughts and Canon)

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seven-Taoist-Masters-Shambhala-Classics/dp/1590301765 nice book, but it is a folk novel, so you should not consider it as a historical reference book. Ukrainian Association of Zhen Dao [which I am the head of], translated and published this book in Russian. it not absolutely so. Wang Chongyang had other students, but there is very little information about them. I wrote a big article about history of Quanzhen, Now I will write only a few fragments, and in the future will publish it completely on my website. "It is known that each of the Wang’s seven disciples taught the Teachings in his own way. It is not surprising because each of them studied with Wang for a different period of time and later on was spreading the Teachings in different regions. ... We should also take into account that within each of those Seven Schools there are many branches and there is no exclusive transference of the title of the successor. Such exclusivity, for example, exists in The School of the Way of the Celestial Masters, where transmission is done only within one family. In the branches that stem from Wang Chongyang we see the same tendency as in the martial arts schools, i.e. a Master has closely knit circle of disciples who completed the training. Each of them represents the next generation of succession of The Teachings. Similar tendency could be observed in sub-branches that originate from The Seven Schools. .... Apart from The Longmen School founded by Qiu Changchun very little is known about the transmission lines of the rest of Wang Chongyang’s disciples. Only few names of the most famous first disciples and several biographical facts remained. It is virtually impossible to trace further lineage of transmission though. ... Therefore, Quanzhen movement, and specifically Qiu Changchun’s branch known under the name of Longmen, received powerful support. His school became very popular. Many monasteries were built and the number of disciples grew up very quickly. Unlike other Wang Chongyang’s schools, Longmen School became the biggest and most organized religious structure due to this high-power back up. Nevertheless, there are many unknowns in the history of Longmen, let along in the history of other branches of Quanzhen."

1) 酒色財氣 it is an idiom which can be translated as - "wine, sex, avarice and temper-anger" http://www.mdbg.net/...qb=酒色財氣 2) http://baike.baidu.com/view/101607.htm 于是,就在了元题诗右侧题上《和佛印禅师诗》一首。其诗云: “饮酒不醉是英豪,恋色不迷最为高;不义之财不可取,有气不生气自消。” Therefore, I prefer to translate: 酒 - Alcohol 色 - Sexual desire 财 - Wealth / avarice / - Wealth is not vice, but avarice and greed are vices. 气 - temper / anger / -

Photos from my pilgrimage to the mountains of China in 2010
Vitalii replied to Vitalii's topic in Daoist Discussion
Yes, there are plenty of stairs in the mountains -
when I held a retreat for my students in a monastery in Nepal a few years ago, I talked with one Lama of the Karma Kagyu school, and he said that they also sometimes practice meditation retreats, where they sleep only for a few hours. A person can not follow the retreat with such a schedule not having received a special instruction from the Teacher, because if a student is not ready, then this retreat could be harmful. before practicing such a program on ones own, he or she should pass several such retreats under the guidance of a Teacher.

Opendao, _王彗_, LaoZiDao, and other Russian followers of Wuliupai! you say that your Chinese teacher is very famous in China. can you prove your words? Give us Chinese name of your teacher, his lineage and transmission, and Chinese source where we can read about it. If you cannot prove your belonging to Wuliupai, then you're just fooling everyone. Can you say the name of the Ma Danyang's student who your Yuxianpai school comes from? Can you clearly answer simple questions instead vague phrases? If you cannot prove your belonging to Wuliupai, then you're just fooling everyone. P.S. For moderators: Russian followers of Wuliupai created a thread on their Russian forum, where they called on the other members of their school to come to this forum to insult my posts. Therefore they come here with one target - spread lies about me and my school. Their russian website contains an enormous amount of offensive arguments regarding me and the School, with no evidence, as the information posted there is not true, for example http://thetaobums.com/topic/32886-daily-timetable-of-the-quanzhen-retreat/page-4#entry505007 Moreover, they use personal offenses and name me with coarse language, as they have nothing else to do to explain their statements.

a fragment of my article written a month ago: "Most famous of Wang Chongyang’s disciples were: 1. Ma Yu (馬飪), also know as Ma Danyang (馬丹陽) 2. Tan Chuduan (譚處端), also know as Tan Changzhen (譚長真) 3. Qiu Chuji (丘處機), also know as Qiu Changchun (丘長春) 4. Liu Chuxuan (劉處玄), also know as Liu Changsheng (劉長生) 5. Wang Chuyi (王處一) also know as Wang Yuyang (王玉陽) 6. Hao Datong (郝大通), also know as Hao Guangning (郝廣寧) 7. Sun Bu'er (孫不二), also know as Sun Qingjing (孫清靜) Wang Chongyang and his first disciples often speak of the Dao as Zhen Dao (真道), “the true Dao” or "the true way". These seven disciples are also known as “The Seven Perfected" or "Seven True's» (七真). Therefore, the doctrine of the "Seven True's» (七真) is also called the "Seven Schools of Zhen Dao» (七真道派) or «Seven Schools of the True Way" or "Seven Daoist Schools of the True's [people]".
