Scientists declare consciousness not exclusive to humans

how so? please point out what i have posted to demonstrate them. i would deprive him of a raw deal. which kid would want to be born with a mom who has to raise him on welfare and cannot find a good dad for him? what was your childhood like? was your dad a layabout shit? did you have to grow yourself up sleeping under 18 wheeler trucks? did no such thing. my life is not f**cked up. everybody else’s life is all f**cked up. but then some like to be f**cked up and don’t see it as such. as you said, it’s all a matter of perception. here i am, like prince arjuna in his war chariot on a hill surveying the battlefield of life below him. what a messed-up world. songtsan is the only one who has owned up to a f**cked up life. the rest won’t say. why should i listen to what folks are saying here? do you know any of them? songtsan is the only one here admitting to having a mug shot. god knows what others have hidden in their closets. you sound like an ok guy only because you are easy to extrapolate and i don’t detect strange smells. but as sun tzu said, one never knows. defensive? what makes you say that? tentative and cautions, perhaps. not defensive. i am like a lead deer in the forest. tentative, alert, always aware while the rest graze mindlessly. heron must absolutely eat frogs? and so every misery in life has to be the way it is? what happened to the right to the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness? -
i just copied his life story. thank god he told us before he removed it. let him go. he's like that avatar of yours:some kind of wild eagle? (you don't like that bird on a stump.) tao bum will clip his wings and chain him to a post if he stays. and no eagle is going to take that. having been in jail, he knows the territory. he knows the way of prison guards and there is no point tangling with them when they close in. pity though. he is a good story. i was hoping for more. he is thinking of a book about cultivating and i am thinking of a screenplay about him. "american buddha" born in the world of hard knocks and reaching for liberation. this is my kind of american dream. i need to get the dialogue right and the authenticity of someone who was there. drat, no way i can fudge that.

The decline and eventual fall of the USA as world superpower?
narveen replied to Formless Tao's topic in The Rabbit Hole
i told you guys from the start this snowdon mania has no substance. it's just occupy nonsense. the nsa utah data center is funded to the tune of billions of dollars approved by congress populated by guys put there by the american people. there is no evil government doing ominous things under-cover against the good american people. there is a us government tracking down terrorists in the guise of americans or anything else, including an old american elm tree, that send digital messages bearing a pattern detected by PRISM. whistle-blowing is just blowing whistle. won't stop evil in government. picking the right butler to look after your white house will. -
why don't you write your book the way you think it should be written and leave songtsan to do his his way? i think he has something that would appeal to his generation of 30 something. my bio-age is 35. how old are you?

no heart, stosh. you can't tread the spiritual path without a heart. even the tin man knew he needed a heart. i read about the froggies in trains bound for the death camp in auschwitz. 1.5 million in all were gassed.another 500,000 not killed in the gas chambers died of starvation, forced labor, infectious diseases, individual executions, and medical experiments. if screwedness exists, it is just a matter of perception about what really happened. do you work for a living stosh? do you have a family? wife and kids? i don't know. you are beyond the reach of my senses and my extrapolation is hard to make out. are you an inmate on shutter island, a serial killer in shawshank prison, or a friggin' computer program rigged up for conversations on the internet like dragon? -

look at songtsan's life. someone commented that it was unusual. that someone has not been on the other side of the tracks. america's underbelly is full of people with lives like that. you don't think songtsan's life reflects a screwed up world? one has to be dead to not resent coming into this world to go through what songtsan had to endure. it's a wonder he came this far. if i were god, i would have taken him back the moment he was born. it is easy to say there is no screwed or unscrewed until you get screwed. if i have the power, i would send you to that songtsan hell so you get some depth in your spiritual journey. -

this guy is invulnerable and knows it. you will just have to suck it in until it is all over. it's obvious he can't take any curve balls...not even from a 29 year-old hacker. if he gets a curve ball from a professional like putin...god bless america. i can just see it coming...that curve ball. putin feigns he has enough of this us farce at his front door and wants snowdon out of russia. he grants safe passage to aslyum country of snowdon's choice and provides fighter escort. in this face off, guess who is going to blink? -

i don't get that feeling at all. if the people get really mad instead of playing dead and start marching on the whitehouse, they can take back the power. -

yes, a better "thief in the night" would be another african american as us president: martin luther king. he would be the right anti-dote for curing "white guilt". he came at the wrong time, like jesus. -

the government is the butler. it's the people who are like a comatose vegetating owner left to rot on the house floor by the butler who is eating up a storm in the dining room, driving the fancy cars taken out from the garage and having parties with their friends in the house at the owner's expense. not a peep from the owner. do you hear any outcry from the owner? -

there are actually some african-americans who told me that they are thankful that they are americans and not africans. nowhere in africa can an african make millions of dollars playing basketball. look at the bright side of life. if you want to cry over spilt milk, what about the native americans - the sioux, the apache, the lakota tribe and the trail of tears? what are you going to do with so much pain? how are you going to break the karma of suffering? -
i disagree with that. as for your book, i did say from the beginning (in another thread) that i like your writing style. it's rambling and punchy like steinbeck (grapes of wrath). it's the kind of writing that the reader cannot stop reading from start to finish. dragon would be the excellent tool as you punch out one chapter after another speaking into your microphone hooked to your iPhone/computer whenever and wherever you get that rush to spit it all out on any topic weaving your life experiences into it. forget the punctuations. do that later. spiritual books are boring. your rambling narrative form would be something down-to-earth, here-and-now.

yep. empirical, existential proof. no spiritual mumbo jumbo and scientific monkey business. narveen; individual; human being; a member of the ape specie; inhabitant of planet earth; creation of almighty god. let's see if you can cut through all that. me. i operate my muscles through my body. who are you? identify yourself. gut digests my food. gut is the nickname of my alimentary canal. enough of these questions, already. i never liked biology. everybody else in the NSA data storage bank. i wish i am snowdon minus the whistle-blowing. i would go into PRISM to locate you. i answered all that. no proof of common consciousness found. divine revelation? instantaneous enlightenment? i am curious and willing to listen to what you have to say about what you found there that day while looking at a field. i am putting aside all my spiritual beliefs and scientific knowledge so nothing blocks me from listening to you. you have my undivided attention. talk to me, please. -

Thank you for your clarifications. they do shine a light into the architecture of your mind. let’s see if i was able to figure out the algorithms in your software. i will respond again to your earlier post (No: 73 ). please let me know if i got it wrong. “my elaboration” you refer to here is what i said: your perception (of yourself falling off the building) and the onlookers’ perception (of your mess on the sidewalk) may be real but not true. and i followed up with the question of “what is truth and what is reality?”. and your “valid point” was meant to say to me: “what you elaborated is no big deal. everybody knows that for a fact that there are two realities: the true one beyond the reach of our senses, and the perceived one that we extrapolate from the real deal". sorry buddy. your valid point has nothing to do with my “truth and reality”. to me reality is what we perceive; for instance, the words on this screen, not just the visual of the text but also the meaning they convey. that’s it. there is nothing lurking beyond our senses that we are extrapolating from. i do not believe in a “true” reality. there is only one reality: the perceived one. you are assuming that there is a true reality, “the world such as it really is”, and the perceived reality is sense-extrapolated and detected through and filtered by the sense mechanism. if you believe that everything in your reality is an extrapolation of the true reality beyond the senses where the eternal tao, your true self and god-knows-what else is hidden, then you have joined all those people looking for the light. in your view, our perceived reality parallels the true reality, the one that has that intrinsic order. and because we are sufficiently accurate in our assumptions (extrapolations) of how it works, our scientific knowledge (about gravity, drugs, etc) does work. did i diagnosed your mindset right? ok. i will include your word in my vocabulary. our conceptry functions in a wacky way (our messed up world), unfortunately. if you are right and our extrapolation is close enough to the real reality, the eternal tao must be somewhat as wacky too. if so, then we are all f*cked. -

ok buddy. stick with your science. i won't disturb you. -
please note, we are not passing judgment on our budding writer. we have been invited to argue with brutal honesty to assist in the writing of the book.
-
maybe we are arguing about nothing as there is neither book nor author to review and evaluate. if you are talking about a book on engineering written by the unabomber, his personal life has no bearing on the book. but if the book is on fiduciary duty and responsibility written by bernie madoff, only God would be in the position to judge for himself the quality of what he reads.

i have no problems with the mathematics that define the phenomenon. things fall and they fall in a certain way. based on measurements of how things fall, the math is developed. we don't need to know why things fall to do the math. we only need to know how things behave. that's all. why things fall is a mystery. inventing a cause - bodies attract each other - and call it gravity is fudging an answer. in this way, science is competing with religion in providing explanations for inexplicable phenomena. neither is telling the truth. -
in another thread, silas said that the buddha's conduct was as materially significant as his teaching. since you are writing a book on cultivating stuff, your conduct would have impact on the credibility of your hypothesis. hydrogen asked important questions about your jailbird experience. why don't you answer those questions and argue with us about the connection between you and your book?

they may be facts to you, but they are only concepts to me. you are not conscious of those facts because they are there like computer programs constantly running unseen in the background of your mind. as concepts, they are useful tools for practical life and i put those tools away in the tool shed. once the job is done, those programs shut down. because they are facts to you, you wear them around your neck 24/7. even in the garden, when you are fooling around with your flowers replanting them, you know you are digging a planetary ball and sticking your plants into its surface; and gravity is always there making it hard for you to get back up on your feet from all that kneeling on the ground. don't forget the other facts like time and space - more programs running constantly in the background. and evolution too...good lord. -
i wish you success so that you don't have to get a regular job and live off your book royalties doing something you love. i will argue the best i can. my first argument: you said that your book is about all kinds of cultivating stuff. what do you need a hypothesis for? you can gather all the info on cultivating stuff and present them in your book. so what's the problem?
