Is it possible to truly get into meditation?
Birch replied to Eviander's topic in General Discussion
Yes it is And it doesn't have to come with any holier than thou's or anti-anything. My experience so far is you get your mind back. It's yours after all might as well fill it with what you want to fill it with, or leave it empty if you prefer. I liked Cow Tao's post. Apech's was good too. It's just that the very beginning of it seemed hard. There are some myths of it taking decades for people to get good at it. I'm sure the experts have taken a long time but I was surprised how (relatively) fast you can do it, if you stick with it. -
Ok. To what end are you documenting people's experiences? I'd say there's quite a lot of that on here, even if people don't refer to it as "kundalini". Best thing is it's shared freely (as it should be IMO) I wasn't aware I was disparaging. Apologies. Being concise about "kundalini" is like being concise about life.

Black and green dots in the Personal Practice Forum
Birch replied to Birch's topic in Forum and Tech Support
Thanks Mal! I can now rest easy. And I'm really really not being sarky when I say that. The green/black thing was very annoying! -
"may be subjective, and to some degree anecdotal" As is life in general. Whatevs. Now look, you were spending quite a few posts on here on behalf of JJ, explaining "The Kundalini" as this and as that. All well, and good and fine because IMO (and small awful experience) much of such things which could resemble "The Kundalini" need a placeholder somewhere to explain to people undergoing such things or even semblances of such things that they are a) not going insane (although the nuance is not so easy to grasp IMO/IME) and there is indeed a context for their experience, and it is shared. I say shared in a very specific sense that I will not need to argue later if you're "getting" where I'm going with this :-) My most terrible suggestion of this thread is to get JJ to forget about his own Kundalini experience and get interested in everyone else's.

It's a cool site. Thank you! -
"Dogma are fixed rules - concepts are generalities." Hum, I dunno about this one. IMO concepts have delimited "borders" within which the concept stands, outside which the concept falls apart. They seem to be a bit more mobile and personal than dogma and as such also seem harder to catch (whether that be in oneself or others). In fact (and I'm not sure I'm even using that word correctly) the more "general" concepts seem (to me) to get, the more room for conflict of borders seems to result. Witness the ability of certain words I use inside one concept being argued arduously due to the (fact) they happen to be inside someone else's concept as well but don't match. And it doesn't just happen with words. Happens with all kinds of things. Indra's net - Indra's bl88dy pain in the behind net, yes.

Chinese Taoist Medicine & Stillness-Movement Medical Qigong
Birch replied to Ya Mu's topic in Group Studies
"Correct. A person has to be able to do Wai Qi Liao Fa in order to learn the Taoist Medicine; it is done in-person whereas the Wai Qi Liao Fa can be either in-person or distance." So can a person (i.e. Me ;-)) learn from a distance to do Wai Qi Liao Fa? Thanks! -
"I think that most of the filters are really prohibitions (controlling the people) than anything else." With which I agree, and I disagree that TTC is not itself wisdom. From where I'm sitting, the TTC is a very sophisticated device that can lead pretty much anyone to reconsider their filters. Of course once you've gotten rid of all your filters (no idea how "fast" that could happen) and quit putting new ones on top of yourself then do you still need the TTC?

Right on! "The TTBum formerly known as "Durkhrod Chogori". Man wouldn't it be cool if you let us choose a new name for you? Like some cults religions do as an induction. What's also fun is that if I've bookmarked an old post of yours (which I probably have) then it will flash up with the new name. Which is how I accidentally find out who is using the odd new pseudo. Cool huh?

Stillness movement & Water method for psyche healing
Birch replied to Jetsun's topic in General Discussion
"heal areas which don't want to be healed (if that makes any sense )" - Absolutely it does, especially if there is "secondary gain" to be gotten by retaining them. Secondary gain could be identity, attention, a sense of strength from the ongoing combat...I'm only saying the ones I've dealt with/am dealing with. "Is there often an exacerbation of psychological symptoms before resolving them when using this method?" - I can't talk to water method or SM but read this http://www.shaktitechnology.com/enlightenment.htm -
"If your beliefs affect the way that you conduct your life and the way you treat other people- they are meaningful;" I think this rocks so much I want it on my signature with the other one. It may force me to be better. Can I quote you and use it? I've mentioned this book before http://www.amazon.com/Sexual-Spectrum-Exploring-Human-Diversity/dp/1551926814 The comments on Amazon are interesting.

I wasn't intending to irritate. I don't think my post implied "cool creative" or anything "romantic" (although maybe it was the words "desire incarnate" that you found something of that in?) IMO (and small experience with gay friends) a gay man's "issues" stem a lot from the social situations we put him in when he is faced with his desires. I think everyone faces issues related to sexuality, but why on earth should one be bullied for his (or her) sexual preferences? I've also met several gay men who are not "feminine" in any way, although I think I know what you're talking about. I can't figure out if it's "put on" for the "gay culture" (and subcultures) or if there's an actual underlying essence to it (the "chi" if you will) I'm not attracted to women so I wouldn't actually go for a "feminine" man. But it's good to know there's some cool, creative and awesome men on TTB's Bonus if they're buff from doing tai-chi, and qi-gong

Mr Songs, are you "allowed" to soundbite me or are you obliged to quote the integral quote? If you do cut one (phrase) off, aren't you supposed to put punctuation in there somewhere to show where you made the cut? Look. Here are some internet *sarcasm* quotes.** Oh man, that last one was so sarcastic there didn't even need to be any words inside the quotes! And here are some kitty ears I made earlier It has been kindly pointed out to me at least once by a guy I'm rather partial to that ALL CAPS might serve something like sarcasm quotes, but I'd always taken em for SHOUTING or EMPHASIS. THIS! Anyhoo, I'd rather you quoted my full quote (and if not, then the spirit of my quote) which actually didn't give leeway to stewing or cooking Mr Ralis more than needed. I guess you have decided to cook him futher?? Thank you !

"adrenaline and/or epinephrine" aren't they the same thing? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epinephrine What happened to him/her? Origins aside. Can I suggest you move this one to the healing circle? Only because there are people who look at that spot more because they want to help. And they could probably help better (than me) if the thread was up there rather than down here. Oh, and don't underestimate stress reduction Sending love to your bro

The computer analogy is neat because it speaks to us today (well, maybe many of us) but what analogies were being used when (if) computers were not around as a public concepts/examples for particular teachings? Any "history of discourse" folks around? BTW, other "computer" analogies suggest things like "garbage in - garbage out", "mono-tasking", "memory overload". And are also presently tending towards stuff like "quantum processing", "paralell processing", there's a big list. Pick whatever suits. I'm not a computer But the late test of Turing (suicide, wasn't it?) would probably not pick up on that. Oh, he "was" also a homosexual . From Wikipedia "...he accepted treatment with female hormones (chemical castration) as an alternative to prison." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Turing

We don't. Mr Ralis is (IMO and crappy experience) stewing in his own sweet and sour sauce (and I say this as I have stewed myself on many an occasion and still am) and I'm happy to see him as usual bringing up things to look at. Dude is a good guy IMO, no need to cook him further than he needs to be cooked dammit. Unless you have alternative considerations to bring to table about China and/or aliens? Then I'm in.

I AM thinking about it. Which implies that I'm not about to go adopt some mainstream viewpoint about what's going on. BTW, from my POV a gay man has more leeway for his male (I'm not saying "masculine" because that's something else IMO) desires to be fulfilled than a straight woman has to fulfill them for him. For me, gay men are desire incarnate.

I think if I were a man then I'd be a gay man. I love them

Thanks TaoMeow! So, how's the book coming along ?

"Eyes shut immortal must ride dragon through hidden door" OT. I'll have a stab at 'em. - With eyes shut the pure consciousness (i.e. without any thoughts or anything else "in it" must ride (over?) the bodiliy sensations through the (hidden) beginning of perception. Ok Sloppy, I have a crap question (as usual) - if you could move mountains, where would you put them? I mean really, don't you just want the magic stuff to get whatever you want that you think you don't have right now? Would you seriously become that guy in Russia (and the other ones elsewhere) who seeds clouds? Or if you don't become that guy and get all that super awesome power, what would you do with it? Would anyone notice? I surmise that to have this much power requires you do something with it. But that's just an idea. GIH, what did you mean by "you wouldn't like it" (context was saying you could tell Sloppy how to do it)?

Oh neat! That Bradford Keeney mp3 podcast interview on here today was pretty rockin.
