  1. 'Separate' wouldn't perhaps be the best term, 'previously unconscious' or 'forgotten' might suit what I'm getting at more.
  2. New Member

    Welcome!
  3. Can there be such a thing as a Nazi Dao?

Yes, apparently there was a trip to Tibet to learn stuff.
  4. I have a tough time separating the body from the rest of everything in 'absolute' terms too but in 'relative' ordinary terms it seems like that's what it is. I mean in those terms it clearly is. The body is an incredible store of consciousness/information itself. You can get things out of mind but if they're 'in' the body they're not going anywhere. I'm basing this idea on body-scanning meditations I've done (notably BK Frantzis Water technique) ---opinion alert--
  5. Why do we Live on the Internet?

"Why don't so many of us live offline as honestly and openly we do online?" Er, I do. This being said, you've asked some great questions. I'm online already a huge amount for work and when I take a quick break, I head over to TTB's. I might see a book link or something or an article posted here and run over and read that or I read a post from someone who is having a hard time and part of me feels compelled to help, to say I've been somewhere like that and it will get better. Of course, now I have this weird new 'job' at the TTB, it's a bit different, perhaps this will compel me to spend more time offline haha.
  6. What are you reading right now?

I've come across a mantra or two so far and what looks like advice to do insight meditation and recognize no-self. The book for Kuan Yin meditations IMO is the one by Blofeld. I'll go back and check the contents of this Heart Attack Sutra as I'm not done reading it yet and I'll let you know. Edit: There's a 'meditation on the Heart Sutra' at the end of the book, but so far, most of it is a commentary and explanation of the different concepts in Bhuddism. It's actually not much about meditation, although during the story in the sutra the Bhudda (can't recall offhand which one but the idea is that it doesn't matter anyway) goes into a 'special' samadhi in order to transmit the teaching to the beings in the audience via 'their' Bhudda nature, but they can 'get' it only depending on how obscured or not they are.
  7. I think everything is spread out, in an impersonal consciousness kind of a way. I maintain that being able to transfer them between lives (either in 'succession' or in parallel, or across worlds) counts as a strong ability.
  8. I thought this was interesting and on topic http://www.naturalnews.com/039202_psyche_the_Matrix_gateway.html Edit: If you watch the free vid, watch for the NLP in it. It's rife.
  9. What is the point

The kundalini stuff is not all fun and flowers. The 'dark night' comes with. It's relatively well-documented. It also passes. As well as physicians, there are volunteer organizations dealing with suicidal risk. Also community meetups and online support groups. I wouldn't say TTB'S is specialized in that issue, although there are a lot of members that have (in the time I've been here at least) dealt with similar feelings 'on path'. I'd encourage you to talk about this and for people who don't know what the feelings etc are to not speculate on any 'spiritual' rationale for doing it or not doing it. As for society, none is set up for undoing conditioning. The irony (to me at least) is that some of our traditions in the West are supposed to offer an environment that fosters path, but we're not doing well with that at all.
  10. Ah, so there was a 'something'. I almost checked for San Niang. I was pretty depressed most of the afternoon, the kind that pulls you earthwards. It's more nervous-system than emotional but it wasn't pleasant whatever it was. Edit: and so I just checked. San Niang today
  11. What defines a Daoist?

And sometimes it's not even that easy to know oneself! I got a notebook to 'purge' all the ridiculous things I hold in my subconscious.
  12. My take is the observer is also helpful in understanding which thoughts and activities are beneficial to you and which are not.
  13. It is not a choice; this must be

Mr North, may I suggest you get out a little more? I'm not trying to be funny. I'm also practicing what I suggest.
  14. Buddha kept silent about God

I've understood (er, I think) this is what happens. It's why I find the idea of hereticism strange. As far as I know, every single monotheism has done something to punish those with realizations (were the latter 'stupid' enough to share them). Sometimes I think http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouroboros is messing with itself.
  15. "but I struggle to apologise for the original event" You don't have to. The way I understand it is that the apology is to the child-self that blamed itself for the original event. This is what children do (and they are also - too often- taught to not/ or not taught to stand up for themselves but I digress) Bolded mine.
  16. "But now we're really off topic. haha." There's no other OT (aside the Pit) to move this to and no thread-chopping for derailment of content either. Edit:
  17. "Hell...there's an entire SCIENCE devoted now to examining how utterly irrational people are and how they can easily believe two or more conflicting things at the same time." And 6 before breakfast. I've read some of those studies. I don't understand them very well as some of them seem to me to be about language more than anything else. I should go back and try them again.
  18. Great Stuff on this website

    Welcome!
  19. Suspension

Agreed. You're on suspension. 7 days.
  20. Suspension

Folks, may I remind you about the 'no insults' rule on the forum. While being able to see and acknowledge the truth in what each of us is saying, that doesn't entitle us to insult each other in the process. Scott, your insults towards the mod team and other members are noted. Thanks everyone.
  21. Seasons Greetings

  22. Taoist methods for turning shen into jing

"shen to jing indeed - which direction you going with it?" JB, would you say that in this case 'jing to Shen' is also a drain on the generative force? For some reason, I had this idea that Shen (the non-individual one) was the 'ultimate' generative force and so you could reverse and 'bring down' Shen from (and this is the thing, 'where'?)

  24. What are you reading right now?

Heart Attack Sutra. Hearty fun and a Kuan Yin thing to boot.
