You have a well-crafted and thoughtness argumentation Viator but I disagree because that's what Xtiantimeness is about.

Won't y'all be QUIETNESS! I will even try Cat. I agree that the end of the world has not nighed but I disgree you'd know it even if it had.

Now that sounded very sweet Mr MH. I didn't know exactly what to apply it to right away, so I applied it as a validation for a personal situation - the part about believing what others say unless they have shown their words through actions supporting their words: this (people insisting you believe their words while their actions say otherwise) is precisely the set of conditions under which I was raised - and I suspect many people, if they are unlucky, may have some experience of that. The worst of this setup, unconditional love, being expected from them but not given to them. Then I plumbed the depths to consider whether I do in fact (per your suggestion) have unconditional love for anything (or anyone) and at first i came up with 'myself'. Upon closer recall (of the numerous times I self-condemn and criticize and berate) I decided that wasn't applicable. I suppose I could apply it to places, being there is only my perception of them at work in the situation. However, when it comes to people, I'm very much looking at a conditional kind of sentiment. I reckon it would be a great thread to discuss what 'unconditional love' is for the bums and what stands in its way. I suggest that situations as described above stand in its way, or at least make it more difficult, as do the exhortions that it is in some way acheiveable - but only after having forgone something of oneself (such as 'ego', 'pride') or one's wishes to be treated decently and respectfully by others (apparently referred to as 'expectations' of which one is supposed to - in the interests of 'unconditional love' rid oneself. So as you can see Mr MH, I am very far from being awake. Further, the whole topic of unconditional love brings me nausea, which I don't think it's supposed to.

I didn't ask him back but I read his posts. I do not, however, possess unconditional love for anything, this being (if this is to be believed, ha ha) because I have a point of view, ever-changing, multiple-depending-on-the-weather-and -what people say and how they say it and, perhaps, a point of view that may change to get closer to something honorable and truthful and intellectually-sound in due course. I was not taught that way, as I mentioned elsewhere and I realise that that's not right. However, in the process (painful, it has to be said) of throwing off all that is not truthful and intellectually-sound, it can be difficult to discern what is an attack to one's self (and unhonorable, and dishonest, and intellectually-unsound) and what is an attack on one's point of view (if that is so dearly held as to become oneself).

Winter Q and A with Chinese Doctor! My Gift to TaoBums for Christmas!

Thank you! Very interesting this differential stuff. So what about when Shen Lung (sorry to talk about your example so specifically Shen Lung) was sapping plants? -
Well exactly! I've practised so much at being the way things are that now when I try to be otherwise it hurts, haha:-) Several people in my family are atheists and some of them are true believers. I liked bubbles' post about different kinds of belief, but I think we tend to label that 'cognition' these days. Some of the guru types do that too. The Coran is stuffed with behavioural science. Anyway, I'm off to post a vaguely amusing Fry and Laurie video about religion in my PPF. It's not 'very' funny. Don't watch it.

IF i am dying tonight, has this thread brought me to any kind of resolve or peace or conclusion? Can I offer anyone in this thread something to bring them peace? Probably not. In fact I've spent all week trying to be happy just in case I die tonight because I figure it would be a bummer to die unhappy. Didn't work.

What about kidney-nourishing foods? And a reminder of the relationship between Kidney (whole system) and Jing would be nice. It's winter too (for some bums), keep them warm.

All this sort of makes my neighbour worse. He knew me and had already been round for drinks:-( Anyway, the advice is great. -
Winter Q and A with Chinese Doctor! My Gift to TaoBums for Christmas!
Birch replied to Eternal_Student's topic in Daoist Discussion
Great! Thanks for this Xmas present:-) I have a question on self-acupressure. To what point should I continue self-acupressure sessions. Should there be a change in the points, order of points, frequency of sessions etc? In other words, at what point does it become counterproductive to use the same points/order of points? Aside from 'you should know yourself' I'm interested in the repetitive effect. Same could be said for meditation (I refer to some kind of 'inflammation' effect in the healing circle). Thank you! -
"If you only want to pair them off as combatants then we are stuck in manifest dualism... " I agree with this, and the irony is that as time wears on I feel as if I can understand what the religions are/were referring to. In other cases it's impossible, as too many misunderstandings and mistranslations and misuses abound unless the use of religion has remained mostly the same over time, an exoteric aspect for 'the masses' who are to be led and ministered to by those who have realized the esoteric aspects- but I get puzzled by this. My confidence in the levels to which the leaders seem to have sunk leads me to say, 'ok, I think I get this stuff but it's really proving to be an obstacle to both people's lives and their leaders' own capacities for personal realizations as well as, let's state the obvious state of many people's physical, social and ecological health.

Hmm. So I'd need to see what would happen with what I've got. Yeah I like twicking about with stuff but less on the drones and such and more on the garden, water cycle etc.

What water psi does it need? There's a whole bunch of people in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maker_subculture doing stuff.

Looks like Obomber is going to use today's shooting to create a constitutional crisis
Birch replied to joeblast's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I'm not making an argument for it being ok. I want to know why whoever is doing it thinks it's ok - or what makes it ok. You gave some great insight into the 'intellectual' argument made. What else? -

That's a great argument for not doing it. But it's been done. So what makes it ok? -

Full on BS. It's like some shitty Madison Avenue brand manager decided to end her creative meeting two hours early and figured she'd do a pop/hairmetal mashup. It's also violent as an actual video to go with any music. It celebrates nothing. -

Well, the question sounds more like 'what makes it ok for our government to give weapons to opposition groups in libya, Syria...?' I wouldn't mention any rules in the argument (you're say there aren't to your knowledge any). Not, what makes it not ok (for now). -

So it's not written anywhere in US laws that handing out weapons to other countries (or people in them) is legal? Is a law required for this? -

Very much clearer, thanks JB!

"the arising potential if left to its own devices winds up having an outflow if "nothing constructive" is going on with it" Would you say more on this? I'm kind of tempted to say that at least picking the thoughts out of it (or one could write or paint or play music or whatever) at least gives one an opportunity to know what's rumbling (or singing, even :-)) and then if those thoughts (or actions) are not acted upon, then the whatever it was does not get to fruition. Also, you can (in theory?) choose whether to act or not on the thoughts etc picked out. Blah blah blah;-)

I would underscore the last two paragraphs especially.

Yeah, Mr MH. I'm wary of throwing that 'he's just displaying love' idea out there. I think it would be dangerous to assume anything about anyone else's motives. Only the person with motives is in a position to be honest (or not) in sharing what they are with others. My motive in posting this idea for example is to explain that not all so-called 'love' and 'compassionate' action or speak is actually love or compassion. I have personally suffered from people who are only doing what's 'best for you'. And I also feel that 'spiritual' speak is very often used as covert verbal attack with the ostensible motive (so often declared, why the need?) of 'teaching' the other. Further, if 'ultimate reality' is as claimed by 'spiritual' people then this 'help' is an affront to that reality. --- opinion etc---

Angry methead? I would be careful (no I'm not 'acting from fear' but out of a reasonable assumption that I would put myself in harm's way. You might be 6'4 and built like a truck.) You're clearly the wronged party. I'd personally call the cops as that's their job to handle disturbances. I'd go landlady route last, as she won't have a lot of options unless she has the police record. I had a 'musician' neighbour who played crap music behind where my head was until 4am. The last time I decided to go ask him to stop (kindly) he told me to fuck off. So cops it was. -
Mantak Chia's Cosmic Fusion and Fusion of the Five Elements
Birch replied to Horus's topic in Daoist Discussion
If there's no distinct I, what goes anywhere? I (sic) was under the impression that everything just goes onwards as part of reality. The idea that a person could acheive a coherent whatever it is that could be transmitted intentionally 'into the next life' seems to me to be a huge skill.- 22 replies
