I am attached to my sufferings and dramas and don't want to let them go
Birch replied to Jetsun's topic in General Discussion
It's a good topic. How would a person find any of it out for themselves? I think the folks that do 'bardo' practices are gearing themselves up for what they believe will happen. But to actually know? -

Thank you! -
Er no, I was referencing the term 'smart man-monk' and 'dharma bikini' as found in a video retort some time ago.

Do you reckon that's likely to happen? I'd second Mr MH on this one:-) I also think I know what you're referring to. This Christmas I won't be seeing them. -
Ha ha. It wasn't my idea. I can't find the vid anymore. You know the one about the schmunk?

Oh yes:-) That's what this 'voluntary suffering' business (as I understand it at this point) is about. My take on trying to show those people what the effects of their actions on me is about: it's about getting them to stop doing it. Definitely a valid attempt. What if they don't or haven't stopped doing it? What if they have stopped? I wouldn't say it's worthess. ----opinion alert--- -
How about you look into the 'sexually attractive' aspect of it? There's a lot in there (and not just sex:-))
-
'Dead on' means an emphatic 'you're right'. Your 'molesting' idea still doesn't sound very nice.

Jaysahnztao, thanks for your post. I should reiterate that I no longer believe these things, but that these are the things I was taught about love and being a woman by my family (and the wider culture reinforced it to some extent and I myself persisted in it to some extent - the latter being the only aspect of it over which I have any influence). To me, forgiveness initially (and may for some time) requires that the object of forgiveness is recognized by all parties. If one party denies that there is anything to forgive then it only makes it more difficult for the other to do so initially. Forcing it is IME/IMO cause for suffering. Ego can also (as I've recently found out) be a constricting thing that binds self-hatred, it's not always the grandiose thing that people might think of off the bat. It might be a thing that does not stand up for itself and persists in self-criticism where the original critics left off.

Now it's funny. I can say I definitely don't want to spend time with people who think this about just women. I reckon you're dead on on some points and not on others. The 'molesting' thing for example, although you might be using the word wrong:-) What's a 'spiritual mindset'?

Only by your proxy Mr GranP:-)

On the Secret of the Golden Flower and on ancient Chinese philosophy

Has anyone on this thread checked out the blog he's talking about? I was going to but by page two I'd kind of lost the desire. So by Deci's 'instructions' should I actually go and look at the blog? Not look at the blog? Go look at it but don't say I did? What? -
Done. Will post tomorrow, unless I take a nap later.
-
Har har. Nan, mate, that would be fire:-)
-
What chi phase or phases is the internet. I've seen both Wood and Fire suggested. It does those things you mentioned and it does other stuff as well. Every solution comes with a problem.

I like the exercise.

I have an idea. Ask me something and if I dream an answer I'll post it. I've been doing it for myself but I wonder if it works for someone other than the dreamer (and who the dreamer doesn't know). Maybe we could get that amazing Randi ca$h?
-
Granted. My wish is that what be, be, haha
-
Utterly, yes:-) Finally, well, that's an interesting question. I'd love to say yes, all done and cooked but I suspect there's some work left:-)
-
Thanks! I like to call them 'mum and dad' Edit: just so no-one gets confused. I'm not referring to 'spiritual teachers'. I also don't actually believe these things about love and being a woman. The point was to illustrate what crap can get 'taught' to people :-)

Oh man, don't show her my posts then:-)
