" If anything people whom try to conserve bring there problems and negative states to the surface faster than a freight train." Right, which is IMO/IME why it's used as a 'technique' in the 1st place. The issue being that if you don't also have a repertoire of 'other techniques' to deal with what 'comes up' then you're effectively unlikely to be doing yourself (or anyone else for that matter) much good. I just wandered across this month's copy of 'Marie-Claire' in which Naomi Wolf refers to the 'brain-vagina connection'... Cited "...the vagina is part of the brain, part of our continuum of consciousness. The neurotransmitters involved in confidence, creativity, trust and transcendence are all mediated by the vagina, which explains why for 5,000 years, it's been the target of patriarchal wrath. If you want to subdue women, (ruling) the vagina's a good way to do it," While I can't speak to the 'truth' of what Wolf is saying re the neurotransmitters, I have my own suspicion that sexual restrictions and control of both men and womens' sexuality plays a large part in social repression.

'Spinal' fluid? Inner ear? Any ideas as to what is sloshing around?
Birch posted a topic in General Discussion
I've been having these 'sloshing' feelings for a while, sort of recalls the kind that you get after a long time traveling (especially on water). It especially happens when I spend a lot of time in nature and in rivers, not on them. Sometimes it's LDT, sometimes elsewhere. I was thinking to myself, maybe it's just the energizing properties of being outdoors in nature. There's a definite 'watery' aspect to it. -

Thanks JB, I'll go check and get back with it. It sloshes a lot less when I am typing on the computer;-) -
The most recent "scary warnings" I read about were that some big plate mouvements and eruptions were 'due' West coast US/Canada - Pacific rim. Movement 'begetting' movement, apparently. When I find the sources will post. Do people live around Yellowstone?

Meditation leading to increased blood pressure
Birch replied to OnARoad's topic in Daoist Discussion
Mr Chi_D, you seem like the technical guy on this breathing stuff. I was wondering whether you would consider abdominal breathing as leading to hypoxia or the reverse? I have also considered the "yi leads qi leads blood" to be a vector for "controlled" inflammation leading to selective cellular death, but that's just an idea that sprang to mind. I hit upon the term "embodied cognition" recently and it lead me to consider the ability to remove (i.e. "purify") the body memory through selective cellular death... --- opinion alert--- -
so.... if this kundalini stuff is supposed to be so awesome....
Birch replied to mike 134's topic in General Discussion
I was thinking about this distinction made by DNB as well as the ways this 'kundalini' experience could potentially work out for Mike and suddenly it slapped me on the forehead that there was a definite choice on offer here. Agree to pathologize it (and take the piss test suggested by DNB to validate something) and his life will likely take on a very different tone than if he, well, he doesn't And that was it really. -
Was hoping you guys could recommend some books...

That big pink Qi-gong book called http://www.amazon.com/Qigong-Empowerment-Medical-Buddhist-Cultivation/dp/1889659029 A few by this author, including this one http://www.amazon.com/Qigong-Secret-Youth-Changing-Classics/dp/1886969841/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1344373923&sr=1-1&keywords=bone+marrow+washing BK Frantzis stuff in general Glenn Morris' stuff For actual 'Daoist' texts. There is a 'Daoist Canon' which other bums know very well. -
It just occurred to me somewhat recently what this 'for the benefit of all beings' could be about. Recall 'Intelligence in Nature' by Narby. IMO the 'work' of enlightenment is the 'work' of evolving the universe (the universe is doing it but it needs 'you' to do it through). It's about learning from one's errors (many of which are difficult to see unless consciousness is brought to them). I could ramble some more about it being an impersonal yet very personal endeavour but then I'd get all carried away:-)

You have a good point Mike. I can't think of a good list of people with awakened K who you'd find with your criteria. Bear in mind that people (except on dedicated forums and system teachers) possibly don't like to discuss this stuff. Also bear in mind that a lot of the "tools" that come with K such as enhanced visualization skills, better empathy, breathing techniques, 'no-mind' etc are also used by regular people to enhance performance. -
No, I don't think it caused them either. Did something cause them? If so, what?

Something I wrote about modern capitalistic society whilst in bad mood from starting work again.
Birch replied to skydog's topic in General Discussion
Awesome! Was that a still from the movie "Into the Wild"? One thing I will suggest is going "off-grid" for a while to see what happens. There are lots of communities and people doing it around the world. My own experience (small) with it is that social relations become even more important but it's different. There's an expectation to pitch in and help (great if you have good skills at something, if you don't, it's grunt work). But huge personal satisfaction from taking care of one's own water, power, some food (if you're squeamish about killing things to eat for example). Sinasencer, you're a young guy, right? You could try a peace corps thing for a while. You'll also (maybe) find the women on those a little different:-) -

I agree with much of the sentiment in this post. However it remains my opinion that 'society' does not deserve my bitterness, nor my stress, nor my dead carcass on any one of its altars. And I'm working ffing hard to make that so in this lifetime. -
Why not odors when meditating? They're memories too. What does the smell of burning wood recall for you? I'm only suggesting this from personal experience of 'unearthing' memories from body in the process of qi-gong. Of course there's that whole n'other stuff about roaring waterfalls and the scent of flowers (I do recall roses just one time but it hasn't recurred) ----opinion alert---

Right. So the continuing (unappreciated btw) pressure at sacrum and hot acidic pressured annoying at solar plexus means that I should fix 'what' exactly? Is it even 'broken'? Sorry, can't presently muster 'empty-cup' humility. Or if I did, it would be fake, as the relevant people know. Hundun's done wonders for me btw. As have many on here:-) It's just that I'm (still) in 'that' place. -

Thanks Steve. Yep, not something I'd want to get into doing. Seems tough.

Awesome Bubbles! Trunk, you can look up a Bazi calc online but it effectively has to take the whole lot into consideration. From my (teeny tiny) understanding, your 4 pillars composition will indicate which 'elements' (phases) dominate, which you don't have enough of and which will need balancing (through food, cultivation, activities, life - really) and perhaps why you may (or may not) be more affected by a specific yearly configuration and what to do about it. The 'what to do about it' is really the most interesting part IMO/IME. I only know one bazi expert on here and she may or may not be doing consults at this time. But there could be others that haven't talked much about it (like Bubbles).

What's your four-pillars composition?

You would like a perspective? I see things that are done out of the pure pleasure of doing them as overall 'non-egoic' i.e not bourne of a desire to 'be' or 'do' 'good' to 'get' love or it's 'opposite' which is the desire to be or do as much 'bad' as possible to see how far love can get stretched. Which BTW ends up as being the same thing as the previous, just the way is roundabout. More languages means more opportunities for expression, and delusion and confusion but while you're learning, it's about as humbling an exercise as you can get IMO/IME. Perhaps it will change your mind about your own language. And if it makes you happy and proud to be learning then bonus:-) ---opinion alert---

I'd suggest that full consciousness would perhaps be what is aimed for. So depending who and where you are (gross example is the office-worker stuck in their chair feeding themselves 'brain food' i.e. 'sugars' all day, with a well enough developed intellect, totally removed from their feelings...oh yeah, that's sometimes me...) Anyway, my point being the order in which these things should be done probably depends on who and where and when one is doing them. IMO it ain't for nothing that 'water' techniques work better and more safely (i.e. less risk of insanity or serious health issues) for moderns than fire techniques. -/--opinion alert---/
