I'm interested in this too. The instrument itself looks like it carries the indications of how to do it engraved on it as well as descriptions of time/space coordinates in symbolic terms- which as far as I know, regular compasses don't have and of you think about it, well, wow! I understand the luopan is also set up so that 'South' is at the top? What should one look for when buying one? Chi D are you referring to calculations for deviation from true north?

Well, if dwai is going to do it just for you :-) Although I suspect what I've understood is called 'the hard question' in science is probably not limited to proving any one individual wrong.

It's a movie. Even documentaries are movies. I.e. A given director/producer choice of what to show and how. Books are like that too IMO, except they ask more of the reader than a movie asks of the viewer IMO. What' the thread about? Jesus and dying on the cross? If i read it as a cultivator I see the death of my "false self" on the axis of my "heart". A felt experience. Kind of a regular thing.

"science, however empirical it is, has a paradigm of reality" Hum, I didn't think it was supposed to have one (a paradigm of reality). I thought what it did (or was supposed to do) was explore paradigms (through hypotheses) and change them accordingly. Ah well, another ideal falls by the wayside. I suppose I'll just go listen to a Morrissey album now. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcvhWrEhHZw Ok, sorry

"Universality"? Check this out http://www.ucpress.edu/book.php?isbn=9780520259607

Thanks for sharing! I will have a look but I'm pretty sure I'm not qualified enough in the terms you've used to be able to comment constructively. (see my other post on how much I suck at physics). I reckon it would either take an expert in your field or someone whose actual understanding is more advanced AND that can communicate that to you in such a way that understanding is furthered. Saying ontology is useless is probably not very furthering Mr VMarco. Saying WHY it's useless is probably more furthering.

Reincarnation + linear time + space constrains
Birch replied to Owledge's topic in Buddhist Discussion
That's interesting stuff Seth. I hear in there somewhere that 'society' as a whole is having a hard time catching up with people's actual experiences (hence the whole course thing, which BTW I think is admirable) but that the 'eminence grise' would still like to have some kind of authority when it comes to such things. Have you read this? http://www.amazon.com/Woman-Who-Glows-Dark-Traditional/dp/1585420220 -
Reincarnation + linear time + space constrains

"I don't see anything good coming of forcing your brainwaves into such a state" And yet that stuff is 'out there' online. "Digital crack" exists too. 'Weidan' for moderns? The 'purists' seem to spit on Ayahausca and other 'alterating' but they'll still advocate sensorial underload (deprivation) or overload. The way I see it, stuff doesn't have to be in a 'physical/material form' to have an effect. I mean, just watch a sad movie for starters and if you find yourself crying at something that never happened to anyone really...I mean even that is just incredible. I'm figuring 'biofeedback' is just an enhanced 'witnessing' tool. But then it's lacking in actual sensuality. Anyway, I'm sorry you went through all that stuff. I'm sorry all that stuff happened to you. -
Ok, now I'm even more confused!

You got it on Amazon.com? Cool!

Who told you you ought a) to be happy b ) to be so all the time c) sounds contrite but if you're happy all the time how on earth do you know what you're feeling? Zanshin, the mags are to make you feel unhappy. Otherwise you wouldn't buy the shit they're selling.

Isn't that what JB said about EM as well? I definitely suck at physics (for now) but how would you consider 'information' in terms of 'frequency' Mr Chi D?
-
Thanks for the definitions Mr JB:-) That shows how much I suck at physics:-) I had weird idea not so long ago that definitions of the same knowledge class shouldn't be used when describing definitions of other knowledge classes. I saw them as existing on different planes.
-
It's always pleasant to hear I've been brainwashed:-) I've also been brainwashed by science - over and over again, everyday something newly "scientific" (or just real bad "science journalism") attempts to influence me, but I digress. The actual nature of the forces/currents in play in qigong is, as far as I know, still up for definition. EM could be one but that's a specific frequency range and not an isolated type of force, is it? Or are all forces now considered "EM"? (are any forces isolated?). From practice, I think your hypothesis is an interesting one. What IMO might be missing from it is the "information" content of qi. But maybe EM waves are like carrier waves or something?

That was pretty awesome. However I'm no linguist nor symbology expert. The alien thing keeps returning to these discussions. Why?

I have to agree with Mr Slopp on this one. After you've gotten an idea of what's the what due to cultivation then it could IMO 'bring it back' to have reference points for said realisation. It just has to be relative to you (whereas you previously had not noticed what was changing/moving). I'm sure for others in time the sun rising was relative enough. Perhaps much more cultivation leads to sufficient sensitivity that the sun rising (again) is enough. The other thing I wanted to bring in is that "karma" is seeking resolution, you are seeking resolution, I am seeking resolution, they are and the world is seeking resolution. I don't reckon any one way of this is better than another. Even though individually it may suck major big time. I don't mean passivity in it either. ---rambling opinion clear as mud alert---

Money may be (for many) linked to things like value (money = value of exchange). May be linked to choice. May be linked to morality/deserving (this I figure as both unfair and pretty arbitrary, unless you count birthright - also arbitrary). May be linked to personal sense of worth. May be linked to personal sense of value. But since money only has value in exchange, IMO/IME all of the latter are at best approximations, at worst skewed to prevailing values which may or may not have anything to do with actual contribution. I don't even want to begin untangling the karmic stuff on this one.

Suggest directing your attention with some amount of will. If stuff shows up that is useful to your direction (which by improving your focus, it probably will) parse it, use what you consider useful (although how you decide that is another good question). Contemplate the relationships. I suppose that takes the joy out of it though... Otherwise, I agree that forgetting about them is probably better until they get, well, 'nothing special'. Caveat: I don't know enough about synchronicity nor causality to be more helpful but it's a really interesting area of exploration. CG Jung would be the main author I've heard of on this topic. Another 'close enough' is a book about attention whose title escapes me for now. It's tempting to dig into the quantum stuff with this but I don't understand that either:-)
-
Yeah, I dunno Mr Slopps. My personal experience with people who express an interest in 'gaming' (or as I like to call it 'manipulation') of others - whether those ends are expressed on their part as 'positive' or 'helpful' in intent towards the other or not - has not often been particularly positive. Your experience seems like it has been. I suggest as a consequence we're looking at a 'zero-sum game' from alternate sides.

This Flying Star stuff is pretty complicated... Anyway, I'm not even off to much of a start with the Flying Star method so far as I am unable to get a stable magnetic compass reading for now. It seems to oscillate between 2 directions - one which is extremely 'bad news' if I follow the Flying Star approach and another which is pretty alright. I know which one I'd prefer:-). If anyone knows a different way to get an accurate magnetic compass reading, that would be of interest to me. When I first tried Feng Shui over 10 years ago, it was definitely 'black sect' - that's sort of embarrassing to admit now, but I've also tried things like 'intention-setting' or 'affirmations' in the past prior to cultivation also somewhat embarrassing to admit.) All of the latter seem to me to leverage buddhist-like principles backwards. Somewhat like rearranging the mental furniture, if your unconscious is the equivalent of the Titanic, I wonder how much good that stuff does. So I'm thinking, if the actual qi of a place/time is also the equivalent of the Titantic,...
