What evidence is there for Lao Tzu's existence? What evidence is there against Lao Tzu's existence?
Birch replied to Bloodywarrior's topic in Daoist Discussion
Great post TaoMeow! The publishing house presenting itself as a single author is well-known, as is the record company producing "many" artists but all the same stuff. The trendy approach is to talk about a star producer who puts his mark on everything from music to earphones to software. I don't know what the "produced" artists think about what I'd call artistic tyranny. But I guess between getting aired and paid or not... Same went for that dog Rin-Tin-Tin. Multiple dogs over multiple movies. -
So some of you said you'd go for that Jungian test I mentioned...

It is thought-provoking isn't it? I don't know if the way one considers oneself and one's actual experiences always line up. My forest journey seemed to say that I didn't really consider anything "mine" very much, not even myself. I wonder if, after repeat experiences, a person just sort of goes "Ah well, not for me apparently". I don't recall making a conscious choice in the matter but it kind of makes sense. Like "learned helplessness". Of course, the reclaiming of self and "mine" will likely seem at odds with ego-loss/diminishing practices but I don't think I'm cut out for those either. -

I was going to say I like being an intellectual with boobs -

Seth, please explain how "that dimension" is involved in people's crises. After reading your account below, it does seem that you are advocating learning with a teacher. Of course if people restrict themselves to the mundane then they'll get served the mundane. We crush people's imagination and interfere in their relationship with other dimensions on a pretty consistent basis. However, I don't share your gung-ho with respect to spirit/human interactions. If you can imagine that a guided visualisation might be the first time that a person has been encouraged to look within in decades then you can understand my concern. I'm not advocating helicopter parenting in any terms but IMO it's no good people doing this stuff if they end up injured or insane (I don't mean "relatively insane with respect to the mundane" I mean actually as a casualty of this stuff). -

Thanks TaoMeow! Can one use the same visualisation to change things? Funnily enough I was wondering the other day about genetic memory and whether that could help to explain the "karma" concept. I'm not very happy about the cup nor the key...ah well. -

1)I need my teachers to be honest. 2) To your second question about unwitting projection. I don't know. I suppose it depends on how you choose your teachers and vice-versa. For example, if you choose people by their 'vibe' that's one way. If you choose them because of their prestige/lineage another. If you choose them by their demonstrated skills, another and so on. And then they have to choose you. I don't know how they do that.

Personally I wouldn't. There's more than enough BS on TV in the first place:-) Seriously though. I don't agree with playing around with multiple dimensions. There's more than enough playing going on already and not all of it desireable IMO. I also disagree that our mundane world needs it. There's more than enough magic here:-) As for fear, why yes, things like that don't strike me as being a whole bunch of laughs. Besides, serious cultivation is quite the trip all by itself IME. -
That was a very good post Gerard. Thanks!

What do you mean "standard issue"? I read something similar elsewhere (Bonnie Greenwell's book on kundalini).

Seth Ananda please teach me about kundalini

Oh good! -
Ah, my bad. I took all of the reply for me because you'd quoted my post, replied to it and not indicated a reference to anyone else:-) Thanks for the clarification! Interesting that you note that some techniques may be exemplary of worldview. I think you're right. I also found an excellent article on this very topic that I posted in my PPF. It's related to intended effects of different types of meditation. I don't remember Santi mentioning anything in particular about a belief-system he held. I tend to think he had the grace to be respectful of his students' different belief systems but I didn't go further than KAP 1 so can't say. I think Susan comes from more of a Christian background. I don't know if she teaches with that bias.
-
Right, so more appeals to authority:-) My teacher was Santi and he most certainly did not impose or impress conclusions of the sort. He taught me techniques, not a worldview or a belief-system. While I thank you for your kind wishes of peace, pray tell from what am I supposedly recovering? Your implication being that I am ill or something. Because I disagree?...

What "other side"? Or "other side of what"? Yes, I admit that most things are my personal interpretation but many of them are not. For example, some things have come to me second hand, some by conditioning, some by convention, some by other ways. I've met that argument (that's it's all subjective interpretation) before in various forms and I don't buy it (it's also what I unsecretly despise about so-called "spiritual" people.) Here's an idea, I have an intepretation of this "other side" that might be wrong in terms of actual facts. So what I'm really interested in is that part of it - the "fact" of there being an "other side". Otherwise Mr Bob, you're just pushing your own subjective interpretation on the issue (in this case an argument against suicide) and claiming moral and spiritual authority in the process. I hadn't identified you as such but in the future will be careful not to engage you on this type of issue.

Is that a question about how people can be incongruent? My take is that a person can be highly congruent when it comes to some things and not at all when it comes to others. I don't think it's all to do with the person either. Could be the way thinking works, could be a language thing. It's why if we want to discuss stuff, IMO it helps to use thoughtforms that are neutral for people. In fact, if you could do away with the forms entirely, you might find communication on such a topic easier. But it's a written forum so it's got that problem built in.

That would be about right. ---waits for whining noises and selective examples to flow in----- However, what this guy is saying is IMO in defence of decent science -
Ok, got a recept for 14:14 yesterday;-) For the clock thing, I reckon just more time spent in the presence of clocks does it. However, the receipt thing is weird. Still not worried but what on earth are the double numbers about? Am I supposed to smile back or something? Anyway, as TaoMeow pointed out. Time itself is the thing. And as Drew H points out, music is the other thing. Just thought I mention it.

Other side Mr Bob? I didn't think you'd bought the 'payback' idea given your posts in the Vedanta thread. I don't want to get into the suicide thing too much here given the pain our OP is experiencing but IMO suggesting coercion from 'the other side' is lacking in compassion in a situation in which the OP is very much alive and looking for solutions. Yes, may not be the best place (a forum) for advice but hell, we've got a bunch of cultivators on here with collectively a bunch of personal experience (and some to expert levels) on everything from breathing techniques, to somatic work, to diet, to psychotherapy to herbals to personal local contacts. Of course it's not going to be easy for the OP to wade through all the stuff but I reckon becoming interested in it allows folks to take charge of their situation which BTW is crucial to healing. IMO sitting back and taking orders from "other sides" is what gets people into trouble in first place. Sorry for the ranting style. Not personally directed at you Mr Bob (not that you'd care anyway;-))

Great! Thanks very much!

Thanks ZT! Given I ought to avoid dairy, getting a hold of happy pro-biotics seems easier with this kind of thing. It'll likely take me a while to get all the gear and actually do, but will let you know! What I don't like about wine these days are the additives. I tried organic wine but some of them lacked the tannins I like. Anyway, I am also interested in TaoMeow's story about total healing and then tolerance and then transformation of toxins. I want to know how to do it. I also want to know just how toxic a load I'm already carrying and how it got into my orbits in the first place.

Not so cut and clear Mr Rabbit. Remember all the stuff is in a system that effects everything else in the system. Anyway, what are your thoughts on all that we're on about Josama?

Kombucha!!!! Like a party in my guts. LOVE it :-) :-). Better than beer (and more expensive. Haven't learned to make own yet, too fiddly and I'm not convinced I'd get the flavours I want.)

Oh yeah, the forced third eye stuff, makes sense Mr Sin. Not good for people in a culture that can't tell the difference between Tv news and real life. We just don't seem to have enough context for open third eyes these days. You can get back to it later if you really want:-) What about diet? I was vegetarian for a while but had to re-introduce meat and lots of root vegetables due to lack of grounding (see also Taomeow's post in the Taoist subforum on mylenation (litterally "insulation" for neurals) and diet. The breathing issue can be retrained too. In fact I reckon most of the stuff you're dealing with can probably be fixed!

My personal suggestion, scale ALL the way back on practices except mindfulness and compassion (yourself first BtW). Take care of yourself. Eat well. Exercise. Go see a doc (try to avoid meds as they could be messy on your system) Preferably one with some experience with meditators. I found acupuncture extremely helpful at the roughest points (and i did go thru some rough points. You can get through.) I'm not very sure about all the techniques you're mixing but they sound counterweight to each other in an unhelpful way. Tummo, I keep wondering whether that one is a good one to dive right into if you're not in awesome shape to start with (and I guess from what I've experienced and heard about, most of us are not). Hopefully a teacher or 2 will weigh in. Hang in there. It gets better.
