Dancing Matt Worldwide Amazing Energy!
TheSongsofDistantEarth replied to sifusufi's topic in General Discussion
Yikes. I saw this video a year ago, and just watched it several times. I find it only very annoying. It seems like this is Matt's 'schtick' to go all over and do this dance, which he looks really stupid doing. I don't pick up any spontaneity or joy in it. Yes, it's lovely that the other kids and people join in and seem to be joyous, but seeing Matt doing that horrible awkward dance in every scene makes me cringe and the annoyance level just climbs. That he does this joyless auto-dance everywhere makes me wonder if he just came up with this great little idea, and set out to make something that was supposed to make you feel your heart open, and so it feels contrived. The fact that he got those people to join in doesn't cover up it's contrived nature. Plus, how did he get to go all those places on his own? That would have cost tens of thousands of dollars, plus the cameraperson? I guess that's another way of seeing it. I don't feel like I'm a cynical, it just feels contrived more than it does feel authentic. Matt himself and his dancing do not have joy. -

I think the same thing about you!! You are quite dense about your own blind spots, Young Master! remember when I told you Norbu told me to be a burr in your soft Tibetan saddle? See you in your meditations! I am you salvation, Young Master! light a candle in front of my picture on your altar, and I shall do the same!! -

Hmmm, any chance your direct meditative experiences might have been influenced unconsciously by all your Buddhist readings and conversation? That they may be projections of your unconscious mind? Tell me why or why not. How can you be sure your meditative wanderings reflect an independent reality? The fact that you come back and say they match proves nothing. And I think there's a tendency for you to re-interpret your experiences at age 10 and 14 (yes, we have heard many times about them) in light of your late Buddhist conversion. And also, since you're always assuming things about the person you're debating, will you at least stop telling people they are "projecting" onto you. You do it all the time! -

Well, I find Vajra's take that meditation trumps science for everything, including negating the Big Bang, yet it is entirely dependent on the brain, a physical object. If non-material consciousness is so all-powerful, it is still tied to a brain, which is governed by the laws of science. It is entirely possible that mind can be a non-local phenomenon, and that a brain is not needed for consciousness or sentience. thus, a plant may not possess a brain, but they may indeed possess a non-local mind. We simply do not know. They may be sentient, but we cannot say they are not. -

How do you know a plant is not conscious?? You don't. You are falling back on the dreaded process called science and experience to make your guess, but you actually don't know anything about plant consciousness. It may indeed have an individual mind-stream, and we can't apprehend it. You are simply projecting your human values onto plants...and you can't. -

Aha!!! You state that you need a brain in order to experience conscious thought patterns. Therefore, you are a material realist. You need the hardware in order to have your perceptions, otherwise consciousness is not possible, and you are like a plant. Do you not see that your argument is inconsistent? Your meditation depends on a BRAIN, as well as a mind! busted! -

Whoa. Just...whoa. Quite the intellect. Meditation now trumps science? Now that's silly. -

Cool, likewise. Your rationalization of muktananda's "special transmissions" that were subsequently brought to light only make sense if he had not done those things secretly, only to be exposed later by those he transmitted to. If he had announced what he was doing, then he can get away with special tantric transmission, maybe. The fact that you have drunk the kool aid, and your guru is always right makes me doubt your take on anything. You suffer from closed mentality. I am pleased that you include me in your practices. I see that we each hold a dim view of each other's posts. You actually know a lot, you just have one context in which to interpret things, and you are closed and limited. I take it as a compliment that that you have even read my posts in other threads. Which limiting mental cross do you refer to, young master? Maybe the last thread I started, about my elderly neighbor and his sick wife who committed suicide rather than live in debility without each other? Why didn't you post a comment? Too limited with my mental dross? You also have no Idea of my personality. None. You only know what I post, that's not me. Why are other people the only ones in Vajra's world who "project"? You think you're Incapable of projection? You are one of the biggest culprits here. By the way, even if you do not accept the Big Bang theory, to call it "silly" is, well, pretty silly of you to do. -

airtight, as usual. Unprove-a-wrongable, your trademark, as usual, because of self-referential "truths". There are lots of things online, you can't believe them all, like you always say all the things said online everywhere about your former guru muktananda aren't true. If you have all the answers, and experiences, why are you just puttering around online? You should be leading a sangha somewhere, with your level of understanding and experiences... -

Sorry, I missed all this as it was happening. Are you guys actually asserting that the use of "cheerleader" in that context was sexist? How was that sexist? Can someone explain? I don't see it as insulting, either, unless people read more into it than was intended. I'm not taking sides, it just seems ludicrous to me that people were offended by that, regardless of what Mal's girlfriend's take on it was. A cheerleader? isn't that describing her possible roll in relationship to KAP, rather than name-calling? George W. Bush was a cheerleader. If I'm missing something, tell me to shut up, otherwise, I don't think I agree with the suspension. I agree with Scotty. In this context, it is NOT sexist and demeaning to women. That it is taken that way is their interpretation, not the fault of RW. The phraseing was perhaps problematic, but not ban-worthy. If he had said, "...cat, one of your cheerleaders..." there would be no problem at all. Cat is not the only cheerleader, but she was singled out. So she was labeled, but I still don't see it as an insult. If this banning trend goes too far, it will be unfortunate. And she is not being demeaned for her views, but is being pointed out for her stance or approach to something. -

I found out today that a man I used to chat with in my old neighborhood a few years ago died recently, along with his wife. He was a retired doctor. He used to walk his dog near my house, and we pleasantly visited on a few occasions. He had moved back to the Mid-West a few years ago and I had not seen him since. I saw this obituary in my local newspaper, which I'll excerpt: "Daniel G--- M.D., and Katherine G---, husband and wife of 53 years, chose to leave this world with dignity on Sunday, July 18, 2010 ...Dan and Kitty would have hoped their loving act could open a dialogue on the right of all, particularly the elderly and those who are afflicted with terminal illnesses, to decide for themselves when to end their lives..." I searched online further, and found this news story: Wow. It seems people have either a supportive or condemning view of this. I think it was a noble and difficult decision, and i feel that they knew their lives well enough to know what was right for them. They had loving children and many grandchildren. Obviously he and his wife decided this long before his wife developed the Alzheimer's. If I'm in a similar position someday, I would probably do the same. What do you think about this couple's actions?

"Exotic" Supplement Experience
TheSongsofDistantEarth replied to thaddeus's topic in General Discussion
Yes, it's true. The separate ingredients were the meat and grease from the body of a cow, a hefty dose of salt from the deepest mines, a spicy sauce made from tomatoes and vinegar, all on a sesame seed bun. In addition, strips of potato fried in more grease and layered with salt, along with more of the spicy sauce to dip them in, and a super-sized sugary beverage concocted from the cola nut and laden with bubbles of carbon dioxide. This was craftily called a "Happy Meal" , and it was fed to children on into adulthood, and when the moon phases were right, the ingredients would fuse together in the coronary arteries and they would just collapse. Of course, the emperor would laugh, because his handlers had learned not to feed him such poison during his childhood, but the legend has it that one of his ancestors had died from eating such meals. -

mama-ing and meditation
TheSongsofDistantEarth replied to mentalground0's topic in General Discussion
It seems to me as though energy practices per se, (like MCO, etc.) are not what a pregnant woman should be focused on at all. It is supremely important though, for her to take care of her inner state during the entire pregnancy, by meditating, thinking pure and lofty thoughts, listening to beautiful harmonious music, and providing conditions that will help the development of the new spirit. Avoiding conflict, unseemly and disharmonious conditions is very, very important. Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov teaches just this very thing, in a book called 'Education Begins Before Birth". -
Why dismiss entheogenic experiences?
TheSongsofDistantEarth replied to Old Man Contradiction's topic in General Discussion
Well, it's a difficult question. Basically, for me, if I rely on them too much, I am not letting my own spiritual muscles develop. People who read energy and auras often speak of the tears in the energy field after the use of entheogens. I do not know if this applies to "natural" entheogens vs. manmade. Gnosis Magazine (which has lamentably ceased publication-it was a terrific magazine and incredibly well done) had a whole issue devoted to psychedelics and spirituality. Worth getting. Actually, it's worth getting a set of back issues while you still can. It was that good.
