  1. What Buddhism and Taoism have in Common?

Tibetan Buddhists and many others eat meat and justify it by citing the lower consciousness and potentiality of animals. So Buddhists do kill. The just rationalize it. animals do feel pain and fear. Any good spiritual practitioner and any good Buddhist ought visit their local slaughterhouse before they make that rationalization.
  2. Intuition and Logic.

It's a mostly Buddhist thing apparently. Almost every Buddhist book uses the "we" formulation: "When we meditate on the emptiness in our mind, we realize the true nature of our Medulla Oblogata and we must show it the compassion and lovingkindness it deserves from us, etc.,". I sometimes find it maddening, but pick up any Buddhist book and there 'we' are. Drives me kinda nurtz.
  3. Clearing up Buddhism by the thuscomeone

Pretty snarky retort before you edited out most of it. Why spend so much time here dishing out the Buddhism before an obviously unenlightened and largely unappreciative audience? (Despite what you say, a perusal of your many posts reveals you to be a very pissy Buddhist indeed!)
  4. Haiku Chain

A voice mail arrives. "Love to love ya, Baby..." It's Donna Summer!
  5. Haiku Chain

Ah...scent of orange Orange you glad to see me Bruce Kumar Frantzis?
  6. Taoist Science of Falling in Love

I've never had a fucking job, I've just had jobs that don't include fucking, unless of course you include the times I've been fucked over...but a fucking job, yeah that sounds really good...

    Very cool...will try it...thanks!
  12. karma and original sin

So if this Christian woman ends up in her Christian 'heaven' as a result of her focus and enrapturement, is she then excluded from the wheel of rebirth? Or does she get yanked back into an earthly body suddenly just as she's begun enjoying her heaven and talking with Jesus? So by this plan then, the Native American goes to his afterlife that he has invested his energy and beliefs in? The Muslim martyr actually does get the 72 virgins, and on and on? So if I believe, really believe that I'm going to a higher realm than all the Norbu Dzogchenitza's, that I will someday look down upon you Vajrajee, from a higher realm than what you were able to attain? When you said that this stuff was complicated, you were right, when you said it was subtle, what you meant was that it was muddled and confused. Perhaps you should spend less time in Sakam Karma (attachment to your actions and point of view) and more time in Nishkam Karma (posting here without personal desire and attachment). Maybe then you wouldn't be such a grumpy Buddhist!
  13. karma and original sin

That's a nice New Age interpretation of karma, Vaj, but how does a baby born severely retarded "change her mind" and therefore her life? Has she arrived in the world in that state due to karma? As for the assumptions you assume I'm making about you, you're just projecting again. Take care, Young Master!
  14. karma and original sin

Thanks for the clarification. Its a heartening to realize that karma has linked us together, as it has you and ralis as well.
  15. Child Birth Orgasms

Another not talked about "taboo" phenomena: Sexual stimulation during breastfeeding-lovemaking between mother and her baby
  16. karma and original sin

Ah, but you're wrong! Past lives do affect karma, and the incomprehensible 'bad' things that happen to people or the difficult lot they have drawn in life cannot be ascribed to the virtuous or non-virtuous lives they now lead. While someone may be leading a virtuous now, if they develop cancer or die in a plane crash, it may be the karma of a previous existence manifesting. There is not a direct cause-effect relationship between the life one leads now and future occurrences, both favorable and unfavorable. Don't worry, it's a common mistake many make.
  17. A person with awareness, a person within awareness

Yes, it's true, you do have the 'right' to tell people here that they are wrong. Is it any wonder that you continue to get oppositional with many people here? A more civil way of expressing the same thing would be: 'I disagree. Let me tell you why.' By making other people "wrong" (and may I politely point out that you do it quite often) you of course become "right". If you are here in the interest of "good fun and discussion", you might want to consider a better way to express your opinions and beliefs than to tell others that they are "wrong". Just a suggestion...
  18. Running into walls again....ARGH!

Wow Serene, thanks for the link to kairos...what an interesting thing to think about and explore... !
  19. Running into walls again....ARGH!

I somehow thought the Marblehead moniker was a version of the "Leatherneck" Marines, you being a military career man and all, so I saw it as kind of a mental stance, going fearlessly into intellectual and spiritual adventures, with the tough spirit of the hard-headed warrior. But now I find you're named after your fishpond and a town in Massachusets? Ay, now I have to reconfigure my mental universe!
  20. Running into walls again....ARGH!

Ah...that applies to me and a few others...I shall endeavor to apply these wise words...I wonder if V would consider that these words also apply to him? Or is he excused because his way is the Highest and is the Ultimate Truth, so he is allowed to "speak too much" because it is "justified"?

  22. I Want to Quit My Bank

I am disgusted by the behavior of the major banks during the economic turndown. Rising fees for everything, including outrageous overdraft fees, obscene executive bonuses with bailout money, usurious credit lending practices at a time that many people are terribly hurting economically. I have accounts at the Bank of America, Chase, and Bank of the West. I am also eligible for a local credit union. I assume they are much better in many ways...are they? What are the advantages and disadvantages of banking with a credit union?
  23. German New Medicine Explains Heart Attacks

Interesting, but the video shows only theory, no data. It's unclear what, if any, data support these theories. Worth remembering the ice bit, though, what the hell...as well a the woman at 1:40, although all these images look like they're from some sort of stock footage reel...thanks for posting, smile. BTW, this kind of post needs to be in 'off topic', not 'taoist discussion'...

  25. Running into walls again....ARGH!

Hopefully you'll be inspired to get off your computer and put your money where you're fingers are. We doing the service could use a little help from the enlightened masters. Hey, I got an idea! Let's say I check back with you in a couple of months and see how you're doing with your 'Engaged Bodhisattva' project? I bet..I'll bet you anything.. that if ChNNR was aware of how you conduct your life, he would: A. Tell you no internet forums for a long length of time to deal with your attachments to preaching the dharma online, or B. Let you have only 15 minutes a day to indulge your posting urges and either way, you use that time to get out there and be an engaged Buddhist. That's your assignment, Buddha Surfer Dude. This is now too easy a way for you, to sit here on the internet all day and post your ramblings and boastings. You think you are above the rest..but alas! you are below! So get busy and help out! (But I have a feeling nothing will change... you'll just deflect this and carry on). Maybe now you understand why your logorrhea so irritates me?
