Being committed in your training goals vs dabbling
Mal replied to Cameron's topic in Daoist Discussion
I've been doing Tong Long for 10 years, now at disciple level with government recognized instructor qualification. But I feel it will be at least another 10 years (with good fortune) before I might hope to approach master level, which is where we begin to scratch the surface of deep. (In fairness SiGung once said Tong long is a very deep art) The "understanding is shallow and purely intellectual" is an good observation, although I think those people might confused as to how their intellectual understanding could be labeled as shallow? When I got out of university pure intellectual understanding was basically what school had taught me my entire file. "Success" was doing well intellectually, there wasn't really any other requirement Perhaps worse, physical skill training (Tafe college, trade apprenticeship) was devalued. Those jobs paid less, while jobs from intellectual skills paid more. Years later sometimes people would come to Tai Chi and know HEAPS about Tai Chi, ask endless questions, often about quite high level stuff, unfortunately it was also obvious that these people had never done any Tai Chi PRACTICE, and had received no "real" benefit from all their "book fu" link to TTB interview PDF http://www.thetaobums.com/index.php?/topic/17794-the-tao-bums-interview-with-bruce-frantzis-march-2011/page__view__findpost__p__248803 -

If China does not become the dominant "superpower", with Chinese as the default world language, by the end of my lifetime. I'll be ... flabbergasted -

haha the Ashes will be on soon enough mate -
Disclaimer: I personally like KAP, a lot, and have done the courses a few times. While I would say it would be worth it to do level 1 and 2 just to get the sexual energy stuff, the system really is a whole lot more than that. http://www.kundaliniawakeningprocess.com/ Dr. Morris's Secret Smile & Breathing basic KAP 1 p.s. I LOVE synchronicities, definitely allow those sort of events to guide you.

Shaking is great. If that doesn't resonate with you and you specifically want to using sexual energy to heal the body KAP 2 teaches methods to do that (retention not required) As for listen to your body foremost

I'd perhaps replace "you" with "people"; and "your" with "their"

KGB Agent Tells You What The Illusion Is !

Well if stage one was well overdone back in 1985 (and that was the longest stage) his timeline was a little "fast". Hindsight 20/20 and all that. -
I'm sort of sad that I never learnt "ritualized drinking" My partner has been to Hong Kong where tea is drinking is really integrated into society (not sure if that's the best wording) I didn't like hot drinks when younger so I never got to learn the "would you like tea of coffee" ritual that older people would do when you came to their home. It seems much less common among my age group, or at least no longer a "put a kettle on and brew a drink" more like "instant drink" I guess culturally I learnt to focus just on the consumption, a "slam it down fast" approach rather than the entire act of creation consumption contemplation.

it's very short.... live it! (I miss the "reason for edit" option and frustrated as to why the embedded video worked this time, when the code was exactly the same as the ones that didn't..... I'll have to award this round to the computer :| Anyhow, very interesting video)

Well there is something in either Peter Kelders: Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth (aka the 5 tibetan rites T5T) in book 1 or perhaps it's book 2 about rubbing raw butter on your head iirc But I went with Buff Bandannas and Kangol

I'd go further and recommend that, if it's your only source of instruction, then do not practice from Taoist Yoga: Alchemy and Immortality. Instead I would recommend http://www.precisiondocs.com/~altaoism/HLIntro.htm for a more balanced approach. Personally, while I can recognize the signs during a dream and retain, I now feel that nocturnal emissions are my body's way of balancing and, for me, they are a sign that I have not balanced my practices as well as I could have. (note: Long term retention is not something I practice, I feel in general it's a practice that has more negatives than positives)

Exactly, here's a personal example. I read that the software industry doesn't like the 2nd hand games market. For a legitimate reason - while they get money from a $89 new copy of Skyrim, the programmers who put in the effort to make it get nothing from the $79 second hand copy that's on the shelf competing against the new copy. So after I was Skyrim'ed out I decided I'd enjoy being a cowboy, having never got around to playing red dead redemption on the PS3 Now I could have brought a 2nd hand copy for $29 Or a new copy for $39 Instead I brought it off the offical playstation store which cost $49 and it took over 12 hrs to download. So the offical version costs more money (it also costs more because I'm Australian, the American online price is cheaper) and took longer to download via playstation than a torrent.....

Agreed, and sadly it's often accompanied with ignoring their own "inner voice" as they have learnt to look outside themselves for "correction" While things become a lot looser once that "same level of mastery as the originator of that system" is achieved. Many people don't get to experience that freedom as they continually "trade in" one system and start another. Often just approaching the "creation of a foundation" from another perspective, yet seeing these "new practice rules" as if they were a "new truth"

freaky synchronicity, I saw that Shit New Age Girls Say yesterday (although wasn't it youtube promo video?) but I didn't wait for the entrie video to load, seems like a series. I think Ogden (the inappropriate yoga guy) is much funnier

I like comfort, so for me I look for curvy or soft. 2008 International Furniture Design Competition Asahikawa Meditation Bench by Sehwa Bae (Korea) Meditation bench by Bae Se-hwa a furniture designer in Korea Bochetta bench Hand carved by a skilled artisan from one piece of sustainable acacia (monkey pod) wood. a more "production line" option from Beduhn Design My partner does woodwork so I like little details like the dovetail in this balancing kneeling stool, and the use of angled cuts in this folding bench.

The on site advanced search option will allow you to search for a post or a thread within specific date ranges. The forum software itself also allows you to change to a few different filter options the "click here to show different filter options" at the bottom of the page But IMO TTB has too many threads for that to be useful Realistically the issue is basically like eating an apple and expecting it to taste like an orange Discussion board software just doesn't lend itself to becoming a searchable database - Pietro's "tag" idea is perhaps the best work around for the "how to find a good thread about xyz" problems (but then raises the issue how do we use tags correctly etc) The +/- post icon is an attempt by this version of the powerboardsoftware to have an easy "find useful posts" option. But as we know the +/- posts option didn't work out at TTB "-" had to be turned off. So we really are stuck with this sort of thing happening every few years. I recall a "best of year xyz" thread here last year or the year before.... but as I can't remember the wording of the thread title of the author it's pretty much un-find-able unless I luck out with a date like this one Tao Bums post of the year (2009)

I sit in a Crazy Creek chair every day or so. (nice view- unfortunately not me) Readily available from camping stores, pretty cheap, there are also cheaper knock off copies. also have one of these but the one without legs is lighter, more portable and I think more comfortable. You can usually find a rock to put it on, if you want to get "up" off the ground. The straps adjust the angle of the backrest, they also unclip so you can use it without the back support. "Closed" it looks like this The only downside is it doesn't roll up like a mat or fit inside a backpack/daypack. Apparently the new 2.0 models will roll...... will have to try one of those.
