Mak Tin Si the Taoist Master is back and gone again
Mal replied to Mak_Tin_Si's topic in Daoist Discussion
Cheers Tin Yat Taoist, I don't like Tao Uncut but thanks for the info. -
Thought this might be an interesting addition to the good old tooth regeneration thread. Gerard F. Judd's book is mentioned on page 13, 14 and the older TTB thread http://thetaobums.com/topic/2138-rebuilding-tooth-enamel-and-other-miracles-question-on/ From http://www.life-enthusiast.com/dental-health-letter-to-government-a-2260.html

Me too, didn't look like a form letter either, but there seem to be <10 "The Tao Bums+" in members with >900 posts. I use to look at it like - subscribing is cheapier than buying a new age book and TTB is MUCH more usefull than any book
-
It would be a quite discussion board if everyone practiced this

Depending on your edition this may be of interest http://www.unknowncountry.com/journal/old-edition-key-was-censored-new-one-not and perhaps also talking to God on a train

^ but you can't go straight to Tai Chi... the circular path sounds like a warm up to me Subscribing does give that nice badge and it is a shame the other groups overwrite that (although the donation of time is worth more than money) Engineer, Concierge, Steward plain old "the tao bums" is a minority in this thread (is there a retired/ veteran group )

I know that's how it's taught and that it's correct ... but I always thought on the guard just looked "weird" Perhaps that's just because I've rarely shot pistols. I shoot skeet where it's either broken or aiming. While I don't get the best feeling about chi in nature personally, K does look happy (and younger) and finding a path that makes you happy is something special IMO But it would still be nice to hear from K occasionally (like Cam who pops in now and then) I understand the "sever ties with the past" approach but it's also a classic cult move .... -
An Excerpt from The Longevity Project: Surprising Discoveries for Health and Long Life from the Landmark Eight-Decade Study by Howard Friedman and Leslie Martin, exploring factors contributing to a long and healthy life. Here is an excerpt on nurturing. (ripped from http://www.spiritualityandpractice.com/books/excerpts.php?id=20895 ) Bolds mine While there is some debate as (noted) due to the Terman participants being white middle class vs other longevity studies. The conclusion from 80 years of research seems to basically be - help others and you will help yourself.

I thought he was saying correlation is not causation in the 2nd link But all comments are cool (and bump the topic ) I wasn't really aiming for just nice and inspirational, I though was quite a different perspective on longevity than other research I'm familuar with, which IMO usually seems to focus on nutrition eg Okinawa Centenarian Study I'm also a bit of a fan of longitudinal studies (like case studies they seem much more common in anthropology) While they are not robust predictors like experiments you can gather enormous amounts of data about what actually happens to people over time. I’m looking forward to reading this book as we learnt about the Terman study for psychology and it will be interesting to see what changes occurred over the last … almost 25 years :/

PPD do not show up in Google, because they are private. I like that quite a lot

Thanks M I now have Zombie run 5k - which was fun but as I don't want to do a 5k race ... I also got Zombie Run 2 Working (and walking) through the 1st season, did the 1st "mission" twice - once in the 5k on Saturday then again in Zombie Run on Sunday. As I'd done it the day before and knew they wouldn't "catch me" (think I've got that part turned off) I was able to just do a nice slow walk ... ok I still sped up just not a much as the 1st time It's working, i.e. I went for a walk 2 days in a row, now I want to get in another before the weekend so I can collect more stuff and build my base (as well as hear how the story ends) Was telling my Mum about it and she said “How old are you?” Apparently not too old to play.

That's cool, but personally I'd rather just ask my teacher if needed and preferably experience it myself, rather than reading the theories (even though I have an undergraduate degree in psychology)

Bolds mine I once read that Taoists use to frequent the gathering places of travelers and quitely watch the goings on ... waiting for the student to be ready

I'm interested in what fellow 'bums practice as a stretching /joint mobility / range of motion routine. I think I need to add a focus on increasing flexibility into my Tai Chi and Kung fu regime. While I do have a 10 min "top to toe" mobilization and stretching routine for kung fu, I don't do it everyday and I'm wondering if anyone is using something more effective since I'm not very flexible and have has some back issues and being more flex able would definitely help.

Recently when I think about improving my spine "xing shen zhuang" appears "coincidentally" I think I've asked before but can this be learnt from a book/video ?

In the last few months the above have been noticeable helpful _/\_ (while my form is nothing like as deep as it was in '11 comparing with the past is a bad idea... although I like remembering how many painkillers I'm NOT on now vs a few months ago Panadol, Ibuprofen, tramadol, time release tramadol ... not fun times) But that got me a nice new set of xrays, ct scans, and ultrasounds and I met a cool physiotherapist

does smoking increase or decrease chi flow
Mal replied to eccentric215's topic in General Discussion
P.s pipe smokers don't inhale (it is still very dangerous I.e. mouth/throat cancer) I didn't actually know that till a few years ago and only thanks to the internet as I don't know any other pipe smokers (perhaps due to the dangers mentioned above) -

(This probably isn't helpful) have you tried changing to pipe smoking? I've never smoked cigarettes but I've a few different pipe tobaccos that I like to sit down and smoke once a week or so. I'm very surprised that I don't actually feel like smoking more often, it's just a nice way to sit and do nothing every now and then. -
Sounds cool, and would be a good exercise for your storytelling. I've though about using zombie run as it sounds like lots off fun, but I don't have joging as part of my training currently so if I used it they would catch and eat me :-( (I'm guessing you don't make it to the end of the story of you are slow in zombie run) Monk walk could be like a pilgrimage, journey to the west style. A 30 day 30 min fitness walking program.... our something like that :-)

I feel the structure of (any) discussion forums makes it extremely difficult to use them as databases. They were just not programmed with searchable as a highest priority. There is so much information on eg kundalini on the web but most of it is not accessed through a discussion forum, rather the sites are designed to present that information. I sometime wonder if the raw data of the "threads" here could be accessed through a different user interface I.e. like using google with Site:thetaobums.com to search just ttb Does anyone have any examples of discussion forums that also have something like a reference/index of topics that is automatically create rather than maintained by people? TTB is almost like a live discussion and once that discussion is finished it can feel like a waste to see great threads and ideas get "lost" site the page. But over time as you read those disappearing threads and get to know the people posting in them, you get a very good idea of who knows what. Those active members are the great wealth of ttb, not the dust they have left behind

Every now and then I find these sort of statistics interesting http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/thetaobums.com http://digsitesvalue.net/s/thetaobums.com While Alexa has been around for ages digsitesvalue.net is very new so I'm not sure how accurate it's $value and $ income are.
