It seems that later arguments expected to arise have been predicted and covered by Anguttara Nikaya (Aiv 236) The sutras record various motives for exercising generosity. The Anguttara Nikaya (A.iv,236) enumerates the following eight motives: 1. One gives with annoyance, or as a way of offending the recipient, or with the idea of insulting him. 2. Fear also can motivate a person to make an offering. 3. One gives in return for a favor done to oneself in the past. 4. One also may give with the hope of getting a similar favor for oneself in the future. 5. One gives because giving is considered good. 6. "I cook, they do not cook. It is not proper for me who cooks not to give to those who do not cook." Some give urged by such altruistic motives. 7. Some give alms to gain a good reputation. 8. Still others give alms to adorn and beautify the mind. Favoritism (chanda), ill will (dosa) and delusion (moha) are also listed as motives for giving. Sometimes alms are given for the sake of maintaining a long-standing family tradition. A desire to be re-born in heaven after death is another dominant motive. Giving pleases some and they give with the idea of winning a happy frame of mind. But it is maintained in the sutras that alms should be given without any expectations (na sapekho danam deti). Nor should alms be given with attachment to the recipient. If one gives with the idea of accumulating merits for later use; that is an inferior act of giving. If one gives with the hope of enjoying the result thereof after death; that is also an inferior act of giving. The only valid motive for giving should be the motive of adorning the mind, to rid the mind of the ugliness of greed and selfishness. With Metta, Harry Pain

Brother Pietro, Agrees to what you say on helping others without intent of getting merit. I think the whole idea of this practice is to cool down the mind and make it good and easy for entering Samadhi. Whether one is helping hungry ghost, animals or another human, it makes him feel good and that is immediate karmic merit. Just my two euros, With metta, Harry Pain

You wrote: [As far as a goal, I'm thinking that becoming a powerful psychic healer is a very attainable 'in one lifetime' goal. I want a goal that I consider to be strong progress yet easy to achieve. ] If you haven't heard of Master Choa Kok Sui, suggest you do a search on him with google where there are tons of material about this man. I was told by many professional healers that he is the best and it is worth learning from him if you wish to become a good healer. With metta, Harry Pain

Hey Buddty, I went over to HT to call him, but there is a Chinese guy by the name of Hok Kok Fuk or something who has already invited him over. BTW, when are you coming over here? You can stay for free at my little "kuti" (wooden hut) if you don't mind. Bring your own mattress if you want something soft to sleep on. With metta, Harry Pain

Thanks for your interesting and very intellectual view. I guess the only way to find out is to walk it and experience it. As the saying goes, there are more than one way to reach the peak. I really enjoy chatting to you. With metta, Harry Pain

I am a Buddhist monk and I agree with your master completely. Everything is impermanent and empty. I put up that post because there are many taoists out there still thinks that this is possible. After all, it is not about permanent immortality where one don't die forever. Its about having long life say maybe another couple of live spans to complete the cultivation. Even Mantak Chia said that his Master went into breatherian to extend the life span. I assumed a life span for average person to be 100 years, so a couple of that will multiply into say 200 to 300 years. Thats not too long I guess! I would have continue with this quest if I have save my jing from puberty onward. I realised that it is too late for me and went into Buddhism where I now somehow experienced and convinced that "impermanency" in all things. Just thought of passing on this quest for those who haven't experence orgasm to have a go if they are interested. No harm intended. With Metta, Harry Pain

Thanks mate, Yours are good reply too and yours are very sharp questions that go straight for my jugular. Unlike you, it is most unfortunate that I still have a long way to walk the path and a longer life is definitely to my advantage. My internal sky is so cloudy after years of conditioning and it may take a few life spans to wipe out all the clouds to see the real light. If I have my way, I would like to have as long a time as possible in this world to see that all sentient beings are liberated from sufferings as well. You are a very bright kid and impressed me. It must be my good karma to have this opportunity to speak with you now. Metta to all, Harry Pain

You are welcome to be my friend Mr. Vagina. As I am leaving for my sword practice now, I will just briefly say that to achieve the Dao it needs several life spans for most people(may be not for you). And that is the reason that a long life or several life spans at one go is not a bad idea. Of course there are many more reasons for the ignorants such as attachment, pussy cravings, too grounded to mother earth and refuse to leave their families behind, etc. etc Metta to all, Harry Pain

I don't know about you, Maxi. But that POS is causing me real suffering here in the jungle with the declining power of the dollar and thus my spending and meditation concentration power as well. With metta, Harry Pain

At the rate things are going, the HT board is dead! How about inviting Winn and Mantak Chia here to see that the TaoBums have outgrown them? Pietro is very good at writing letters. You missed out a few others who prefer to stick with the old HT board. I guessed they are Bush supporters as well. Another female with a warrior spirit is kris and worth geting to join the bums here. I think we need some heavy weights to contribute some articles from time to time to make this community looks like the ultimate place for Taoists to take their rest and have a cuppa while on breaks from meditations. Can anyone invite Bodri or Master Nan Huai Chin to give contribute articles occassionally? I think they will probably like this idea as it helps to promote their books as well. I know of one heavies here, but he has transformed himself into a heavy dick dong salami so his articles may be questionable to the general public who doesnt knows his back ground. Just a thought, Metta to all, Harry Pain
