How would you counter this hypothesis to the âEnlightenmentâ idea?
Nungali replied to galen_burnett's topic in General Discussion
if this is the case , then they are not 'end goals' . . . not for me anyway . They are possible future development states from where further choices can be made and realized OR , in this life / current incarnation ; 'trances' ( ie. various states that consciousness can arrive at ).- 568 replies

Anyone here practise Chinese classical martial-arts?
Nungali replied to galen_burnett's topic in The Rabbit Hole
tested ALL YEAR ... by an entire town ... when you where 60 ? Thats a long test .... I hope you got toilet breaks . When I was working , just before retirement and over 60 , I would have to 'keep up with ' ( and sometimes run rings around ) some young, fit looking , tough guys . At least 10 hrs per day . Thing was , it was the film industry and most of them where .... 'fueled' . Sometimes , someone would comment ; You do alright for an old fellah ." I would add ; ' It more 'alright' than you imagine ...... I dont take cocaine . " Where comes 'energy' ? Mate on the same job ... wow, what a powerhouse ! And can fight ( bare knuckle champ from outback cattle yard bouts ) , did amazing feats in some films . Got run over by a bus , wheel across midsection, back at work doing same in 5 weeks . Eats mostly steak and not much else . Has a triple vodka and Red Bull for breakfast . Not a big muscly fellah either . Me ? I have not been sick in over 8 years ( flue cold sniffle covid etc . ) yet health freaks, good diet , 'health conscious people' all around me seem to be constantly getting them . I think there is this underlying 'constitutional factor' . I think they have 'weak constitution' . . . regardless of all their numerous practices , they dont seem to be helping . -

Imagine if you had a hole in your roof, or a broken door in the house, and no way whatsoever to fix itâever! I have no need to imagine such things . I live with them . Both in house and body . But I seen a LOT worse . Life got bumps . You can get them worse from rugby , cliff climbing, motorcycle riding . It seems people like less the same injury done in MAs . -

Finally .... something to use the 'upper X-block' for ! But No .... I neglected to add .... the rear leg is bought forward and lifted up to the front of yourself . The only thing I seen anything like a scorpion kick (in 'real life' ) was years back, I was training with a friend, we where warming up and doing some rolls ; we crashed ( on warmups ) ; I did a roll and was flipping upwards , he did roll slightly later coming from the opposite direction and was flipping over , his rear foot whipped over in a circular motion as he dived into the ground to roll and connected with my head as it flipped up as I was coming up from my roll ; his rear heel smacked me right in the side of the temple . We both ended up standing , he " You okay ? " . Me ? Well I finally understood why that image of people with 'stars' around their heads exist .... it went very dark black all round , there where stars twinkling all round . I felt my body staggering about, and arms reaching out ... then ... just black and no stars . I remember hearing him laughing before I passed out . -

Nungali replied to galen_burnett's topic in The Rabbit Hole
No to the first bit ... its the back leg that comes forward and sweeps up . Your front leg would still be hit by the others sweep , and if you examine how I described this move ...with a vertical upward strike . it doent matter if they 'duck' . The second part of your post ? Yeah ... probably . -

Nungali replied to galen_burnett's topic in General Discussion
I agree . " not necessarily pleasant or unpleasant but satisfying somehow. " that gets close to it . Also this " , a third state, perhaps one that is in sync with underlying reality, in sync with the world, " I think the natural state in the natural environment , for humans , is this type of 'bliss ecstasy' and related to the 'neo-classical' concepts of eudamonia . I would like to explain that more ... but got a meeting to go. ( to ... ugh ... community meeting ... I'm supposed to have retired from that ! )- 568 replies

Oh ! Non permission , what tree NOT to eat 'of' (off the tree OR ground ) . No power trips here , some are POISON . This is covered by tribal knowledge of the plants and uses in the area . There is a half way though ; saw a 'bush expert ' (white guy ) with an elder , sampling bush food as they walked ; " can I eat this ... that ? " one plant , Elder ; " Yes , you can eat that ." The guy takes a bite grimaces " Glack ! Oh my God ! " spits it out " I thought you said you could eat this ." " Well, you can eat it , it won't hurt you . But we dont eat it ..... tastes terrible . '

Eh ? Ummm no. Wot ? Pardon ? I was saying that is exactly what it is based on ; How did you get your above questions from that comment ? In any case I can answer them , yes, in 'primitive times' , for example right here in Oz before colonial settlement . It WAS the garden of eden , no one got kicked out, people strictly obeyed 'law' - problem was they got invaded .... by lawbreakers. I can write a little dissertation on how they knew which tree is permitted to which human , or no humans . It seems you have little knowledge of such things ? - aboriginal culture, moiety, law, environmental management and rights of usage (in the garden ) are more complex than we can probably imagine .... regardless of their 'primitive status' (That is an Aussie anthropologist professor specialists opinion , by the way , that has studied many of the worlds cultures . )

PLAY : The RavenâââŹs Tale. Cast : The Orator. The Raven. A Nymph. The Centaur. A Prattling Crow. Apollo. Corona. Three Magpies. The Gods. The Hydra Prolouge. [Curtain (black) drawn closed . The Orator is to the right side of stage , dimly lit by a spot from top leftof stage . ] Orator ; â âBe that word our sign of parting, bird or fiend!' I shrieked upstarting - â`Get thee back into the tempest and the Night's Plutonian shore! Leave no black plume as a token of that lie thy soul hath spokenâ! Leave myâ âŹloneliness unbrokenâ! âŹ-â âŹquit the bust above my doorâ! Take thy beak from out my heart,â âŹand take thy form from off my doorâ!' Quoth the raven,â `âŹNevermore.â â⏠[Spot out - darkness . Orator exists . ] Scene 1. The Raven. [ Lights up. A Nymph walks across the stage holding a large sign with âThe Ravenâ written on it and the image of a raven . The stage curtain is drawn and background 1. ( appropriate star map with constellations and animals ; Corvus/raven sitting on top of Hydra/serpent and Crater / cup next to him and centaur nearby to the left ) is revealed . Before it sit The Raven and The Centaur in appropriate places . ] The Orator ( voice over ) : â Once upon a time a raven was circling around the southern heavens,â âŹlooking rather depressed .â âŹA voice addressed himâ; â. âThe Centaur; âWhy so glum Brother Raven?â â[The Raven turns to look and there amongst the stars is a man with lance and the body of a horse. ] âThe Raven; â Well, it wasnât always like this you know. Things used to be quiet good but then there were some complications with my bossâs girlfriend and that business with that big cup there and this troublesome sea serpent creature / monster thing, to whom, I now seem firmly attached.â âHe indicates the constellations of Crater, The Cup and Hydra . â[ Raven flapps and flutters his wings but he can not seem to separate himself from the Hydra nor move through the stars] Centaur; ââWell, we all have our issues. Tell me about yours?â âRaven : âIssues? I donât have issues! I am just there and things happen to me ⌠it doesnât have ANYTHING to do with me! I am purely a victim of circumstances.â Centaur; ( He smiles) â â Dear RâŹavenâ ! âŹIs there any such thingâ? âŹI doubt it,â âŹfor we all play a part in the events that unfold around us.â âŹWell then,â âŹtell me what happened and we will see if we can work out a solution to your dilemma together.ââ âRaven ; âVery well. It all started back when I was with my master , Apollo. He bid me observe the affairs of gods and men and report back to him, that being my duty, ordained by Zeus, how could I refuse it? The same as I could not refuse my other duty, to disperse amongst men the prophesies of my master Apollo so men may know the will of Zeus. All went well until that business with the woman. ââ One day when pulling Helios across the sky in his chariot Apollo saw the Princess Corona of Larissa, the fairest maid of all Aemonia. Apollo courted Corona and things seemed good. Apollo was happy with her and she was known to have a âgrateful charmâ, to be a joy to him and faithful in love ⌠while none defamed her chastity. ââBut, unfortunately for me, one day I observed from high perch, that very same Corona laying in a field with a lad ⌠who was certainly NOT Apollo. Being faithful to my masterâs charge, I immediately leapt from my perch, spread out my white wings and beat them as fast as I could to propel myself home to my masterâs abode and repot to him this new development. ââBut a crow followed me. A noisy busy-body prattling crow, curious of my alarm and quick flight and what it was I observed. After me, the prattling Crow followed with flapping wings, eager to learn what caused this Raven's haste .....â â[Outer black curtain closes ] âScene 2. A Prattling Crow . â[ The Nymph walks along the stage with a sign, text and picture ' A Prattling Crowâ. I saw you observing in that tree, but although you think you are fulfillling your masterâs charge and being loyal , take heed of my story ! â A long time ago,â âŹthe god Vulcan fathered a son,â âŹErichthonius,â âŹunder strange circumstances.â âŹHe tried to rape Minerva but didn't succeed.â âŹInstead,â âŹhis seed fell down to earthâ; âŹfrom where it landed,â âŹup sprang Erichthonius.â âŹMinerva seemed to want to cover the whole thing up,â âŹso she hid the child in a basket.â âŹShe then made this basket the responsibility of the threeâ âŹdaughters of Cecrops,â âŹan ancient king of Athens.â âŹThen she made them swear never to look inside it. ââ Two of the daughters, Pandrosos and Herse, obeyed the goddess, but the third, Aglauros, peeked inside â and a saw a baby with a serpent curled up beside him. Then I went to Minerva and tattled on Aglauros for peeking . Minerva was so displeased that she took it out on me ! I was just the messenger of a wrongdoing but she forbade me to be her special bird any longer; from that point on, her friends have been owls and I have been ignored. Beware Raven that the same fate awaits you.â Raven ; â Out of my way Crow! I must do my duty and report to my Master.â âCrow; â Well, you might think that I never was Minerva's special bird in the first place. Harumph ! If you do, you're wrong. To prove it, I will tell you a second story. A long time ago, I used to be a beautiful princess, with many suitors. But then, one day, while I was walking along the beach, the god of the Ocean saw me and became amorous. But I wanted nothing to do with him. ââ He pursued me, so I prayed to the gods for help. The only one who listened was Minerva, herself a virgin, who transformed me into a crow. This is how I became Minerva's bird. But now I have been disowned and the owl has taken my place , who also used to be a Princess, although nowhere near as fair as I and whose morals are poorly lacking - the little tart!â Raven ; â Oh you who talk too much ! A mischief fall upon your prating head for this detention of my flight.â âŹYour words and warnings I despise. â I shall do my duty in haste, despite thy warnings to inform my patron Apollo how I saw the fair Corona with a lad of Thessaly ! â [Raven flies off leaving the Crow behind and exists stage left . The outer curtain is drawn ] Act 4 - The âBeautifulâ Apollo. [The Nymph walks across the stage with sign with text and image âThe âBeautifulâ Appolloâ. The outer curtain is drawn back . ] Scene ; Apolloâs Temple . Apollo is on his throne playing his harp and singing . Raven enters . ] Raven ; (short of breath ) â My Lord Apollo , I have news ... bad news I fear . But is it not your charge that I watch the affairs of men and report back to you on their behaviour ... and in turn I relay your decrees and orders to mankind ? â Apollo : â Indeed my bird, it is. Speak ! â Raven : â I saw fair Corona lying in yonder field with a Lad of Thessaly . â Apollo ; ( he drops his plectrum ): â When was this ? â Raven â Just then ... well, some time ago, I flew here as fast as I could but I was delayed by a prattling crow . â Apollo ; â And where is Corona now ? â Raven ; â I dont know . â Apollo ; âSend my guards to bring her here ! â [Apollo sets down his harp, he paces, he fiddles, he attends to his bow, he paces with an arrow in hand striking his thigh as he walks . Raven looks nervous. Corona enters. ] Corona : âMy Lord ? â Apollo : â Ahhh , my loyal Corona , my love ? â ( he takes up his harp and starts strumming it ) âMy bird , this Raven, tells me a fantastic tale , and you must tell me that it isnt true .... and then I shall deal with him later . He seems to think he saw you laying in a nearby field with a lad of Thessaly . Explain to me why he is suddenly lying to me ? â Corona ; ( totally taken aback) â Oh ! I .... I ..... well ...... â Apollo ( angry ) â Itâs true ? ! â Corona : ( slumps in resignation ) â Yes. â Apollo ; (raging , he drops the harp, he contorts, he looks insane , he takes up his bow, notches an arrow and fires at Corona , it pierces her breast . ) .Corona ; ( slumps , pause, she stirs, removes the shaft moaning ) âAh,â âŹApolloâ! âŹpunishment is justly mineâ!⏠But wherefore didst thou not await the hour of birthâ? âŹFor by my death an innocent is slain. For I am with child . . . your child .â â (she dies ) â Raven ; (crouches down and covers his head with his wings .) â[Outer curtain is drawn closed ] â[ pause .... outer curtain is opened ] âScene 6 ( back drop back to no 1 , Raven ( black plumage ) and Centaur ) âRaven (sad) : â This said, her soul expired with her life-blood, and death congealed her drooping form. .We stood there frozen at the horror. Sadly the love-lore God did repent his jealous deed; regret too late his ready credence to this Raven's tale. Mourning his thoughtless deed and blaming myself, he vents his rage upon this very bird; he hates his bow, the string, his own right hand, the fateful arrow, anything but himself and his own jealous rage.â ââAs a last resource, and thus to overcome her destiny, he strove to cherish her beloved form; for vain were all his medicinal arts. But when he saw upraised the funeral pyre, where wreathed in flames her body should be burnt, the sorrow of his heart welled forth in sighs; but tearless orbed, for no celestial face may tide of woe bedew. ââYet, after Apollo poured the fragrant myrrh, sweet perfumes on her breast, that now once more against his own he pressed, and after all the prematurely hastened rites were done, he would not suffer the offspring of his loins to mingle with her ashes, but he plucked from out the flames, forth from the mother's thighs his child, unborn, and carried to the cave of double-natured Chiron - a relative of yours I believe.â â[The Centaur nods .] âRaven ; âThen to him he called this foolish truthful Raven, high in hopes of large requital due for all his words; but, angry with my meddling ways. He frothed, he fumed and turned red. He burst forth fire that filled the temple and I , caught up in the conflagration had my pearly plumes engulfed. So fierce was the fire of his own guilt and shame expelled forth, my very beautiful plumage was scorched and turned from pearly white to deep dark black and he forbade me forever more to perch among the favoured birds whose plumes are white. ââ And then, to add insult to injury he spoke: ââWanton babbler! see thy fate ! âMessenger of mine no longer, Go to Hades with thy prateâ! âWeary Pluto with thy tattle! Hither,â âŹmonster,â âŹcome not backâ; âAnd â to match thy disposition â Henceforth be thy plumage blackâ !âŹâ âMuch concerned I hurriedly departed his presence and flew up into the highest branch of the highest tree and hid myself within the leaves and shadowsâ âŹuntil his blood and temper cooled.ââ [Three Magpies fly in and alight along a string of nearby stars.] âCentaur ; âYour story attracts others that long to hear,â âRaven : â âIt is the Chorus, every time this story is told they insist, very annoyingly , in my opinion, to sing in sweet melody and rhyme their version of the events told.â âMagpie 1 ; âComplaining Raven! This is a Holy event which we must always commemorate. The God's most holy presence asks the hymn, the solemn hymn, the hymn of agony, lest, in the air of glory that surrounds the child of Semele, we lose the earth and corporal presence of the Zeus-begot.â Magpieâ âŹ2:â ââŹYea,â âŹsisters,â âŹraise your voices.â âMagpie 3: âAye - we sing.â âAll Magpies: âHail, child of Semele! Catch up my sacred gilded bowl in thy hooked claws and fly aloft on an airy journey to far Lerna where lies the the Alcyonian Lake. I noticed a beautiful sweet aroma filled the air. Looking about I saw the tree was laden with the largest, juiciest, purple figs I have seen, their juice overflowed from around their stem and had run down the fruit and dried in a crystalline coating of fig sugar. Of course I tried one . And then another. It wasnât that they were so good, but being on a Holy mission, I realised I must have my strength for the journey back, carrying the filled cup. So I set the cup down and ate some more ⌠and some more. â ââ After some time, when I could not eat any more and my stomach was greatly distended, I realised flight with the full cup may be impeded, so, with no desire but to fulfil my duty most efficiently, and because I was now tired and drowsy, I went to sleep within the branches of that shady tree.â â[ Curtain closes ] âAct ? â[Curtain opens ] âScene [ - The Alchonian Lake . ; there is a pool of water and a near by fig tree with Raven sleeping in it . Return to the depths of your pool while I go about my sacred charge. You are delaying me, would you let the Gods go thirsty ? â Hydra; â You have your duties but I have mine , and it is to guard this precious water . If you have good reason to take it , as you say ' for the Godsâ , then show me your warrent . â Raven ; â I dont have to answer to you ! â [Raven fills the cup but Hydra grabs it , they are both pulling it, and start figting , hissing and squarking and hitting each other [outer curtain closes ] ............................ Why did you take so long and thus allow the gods to go thirsty?â âRaven : ( laments) â O Great Apollo please forgive me ⌠I would have returned much sooner, but as I went to take the water from the sweetest spring of all, this water monster arose from the depths and challenged me to my purpose. I informed her I was on a mission from you, but she blocked my way , I fought bravely against her for a great length of time, she seized the sacred cup and would not let go, so I had to bring her here thus attached.â â Apollo ; ( stands up and walkes around the banquet to confront Raven ) â Is that so? And this is the truth? â Raven ; ââYes it is.â âApollo : ( casually ) â Why then my good and faithful Raven .... ⌠if it is true, why, tell me then ⌠( he thunders ) do you have SUCH A FAT BELLY AND FIGS SMEARED ALL OVER YOUR BEAK AND RUNNING DOWN YOUR CHEST ? â â[Raven flutters nervously ] âApollo ; â That is no water monster, that is Heraâs Hydra , the worst she has ever done is to go out onto the flat-land to raid the flocks. ââI am impatient once again of your prattle and will have no more of any of this ! You have made the Gods throats dry and it has become hard to converse, so from now on you will have a dry throat! I command you to sing no more and instead only produce a dry croak to remind you of what you have done! By your lies you dare attempt to cheat the God of Prophecy by fibs? â âRaven ; ( He goes to speak but only coaks and squarks come out , he is shocked and holds his thoat , tries again, but more of the same ) âApollo : â And stop that damn squarking .... I have had enough of you .... ALL OF YOU ! Raven and Centaur ] âRaven ; âAnd with that, he grabbed all three of us, myself that Cup there and this Hydra under my feet and flung us up mightily into the sky and stars, to where we remain fixed unto this day. I am forever thirsty but the cup is just out of reach over there ...â â(Raven flapps and flutters his wings but still he remains stuck to the Hydra and none of them moved through the stars, nor towards the cup.) Centaur ; âI see. And you see this as misfortuneâ?â âRaven : â Of course! You do not?â âCentaur ; âWell I can see it another way.â âRaven : â Please go on and explain then . I am more than willing to release myself of my entrapments and ill-fortune.â âCentaur ; âVery well. First you must realise there is another level of story behind all the things that befall us, for we are, not just fixed amongst the stars, but are the patterns of the very stars themselves and this great pattern represents, not just life and events on earth but the very nature of Manâs own soul or Psyche, as represented by our sister of the same name, in truth, we are all parts of her story. I am an important part in that, as are you. ââ Remember earlier when you said that his child, unborn, was carried to the cave of double-natured Chiron - âa relative of yours I believe.â ? Well, I said yes, not wanting to interrupt your narative , but actually, I am that one and the same Chiron . Part of my duty has been to teach men how to read the stories in the stars. Also I hold the position of King of the Centaurs , they are a simple lot, but the Gods revered my intelligence , so much so that I have been the mentor of that child ... and of Hercules and some notable others . â âRaven : â Really ! The Great Hero Hercules ! And you where his mentor ? â âChiron ; â Of which I am rather ashamed to mention , what a failure ! But that is another story, suffuce it to say , I too owe my position to his blunders .â âRaven; â Well, you must tell me how that happened . â âChiron; â One of my centaurs , Pholous who was friends with Hercules invited him to to his home for dinner . When Pholous was not looking Hercules helped himself to some sacred centaur wine , made only for centuars. When he returned he was horrified ! There Hercules sat with the bottle open, drinking it . Well, the secent had drifted out and reached the other centaurs. Furious, they grabbed weapons and charged at Pholouâs house. Hercules came out firing his bow and killing many of my centaurs . Hearing the commotion I ran outside to stop the fight but was grazed on the knee by one of Herculesâ arrows , unfortuanetly , one that had been dipped in the blood of the Hydra. Being imortal, back then, I could not die and was doomed to live on in great pain. It was so bad I asked Zeuss to kill me to end my pain , and he obliged . So here I am , in the world beyond death . ââ But do not give yourself lack of importance for your part is, perhaps more crucial, than you realise.â Raven ; âHow is thatâ?â⏠Centaur : ââBy analogy and symbol dear Raven. For example you lament about your loss of colour from pearly white to deep dark black ⌠even blue black if I may add. Have you not noticed that it is the very colour of space itself? Have you not noticed that white reflects light, hence finds difficulty in absorbing it. While black absorbs light by not reflecting it. By being black you are absorbing the light, and light is good, warm and gives life and illumination. â âRaven ; â I see. You do seem wise in your observations, so what is your function in the psyche of Man?â Centaur ; â To interpret symbols, as I said , I teach men how to read the stars. But the affairs of the Gods, as well as the movement and arrangement of the stars are also for Manâs learning. In that we both play a part . Also my path is about healing, esecially the deep healing of a wound . Actually, they are both the same thing .â Raven : â What are both the same thing ?â Centaur ; â Healing and understanding the movement of the stars and the affairs of the Gods , which Man calls âmythâ..... they all come together to heal the psyche of Man .â ââLet us move on to the feast for Jupiter and see if we can unfold more of your purpose and hence your illumination.â âRaven ; âVery well.â Centaur ; â âFirstly the spring and pool is deep water, that is a symbol of the Psyche, the deep soul of man, of which he only perceives the surface. ââDeep within lies the many headed Hydra, which at times, can have one head and at other times many heads. It is the same thing, do not be confused, in the world of Psyche, things can be one thing and many things at the same time. Mostly men are not aware of Hydra, but occasionally she surfaces as her duty IS to protect the cared for sacred spring from those who are not ready nor worthy to receive its waters.â âRaven ; âBut if the pool or lake or deep water IS Manâs psyche, then Hydra being a part of that is part of Manâs psyche or soul and resides within ?â Centaur ; ââThat is exactly right. And what might that part be? What is like a snake in the Soul of Man that reaches up its head through the Spheres of Heaven to the Vast Empyrean? Yet, when Man thinks he is suffering it persecutes him on the Cross of the Elements? â âRaven ; â I know not.â Centaur ; ââCome now Raven, you seek water, do you not? Do you not realise this burning thirst in your throat is not for mere physical water? For what you thirst and what you seek and what is contained within the Sacred Cup is the Water of Life, and to drink from it is to gain knowledge of the soul. That is your function! To drive Man along , to seek the sacred wisdom and to gain knowledge of the soul, by observing the acts and lives of the Gods and their companions ⌠which Man calls âmythâ.â â Raven ; âI see ...... Does not man have a force inside him that is curled up and sleeping in water, and due to certain circumstances, may arise and ascend, returning through the vast spheres which gave his incarnation form when previously descending FROM that original source and this, like a rearing serpent may return and pierce the veil into that very Empyrean?â âCentaur; âYes, that is so ⌠and tell me, how Raven, did you come to that knowledge?â âRaven ; âWell , it is still my duty to watch - the ravens on Earth do that for me and still report to me. Some time back one of them delivered unto me a strange document and in it, it had a diagram ⌠I will show it to you.â â[ Raven produces a sheet of parchment from beneath his wing, but as he unrolls it The Magpies fly in and alight again in a row upon a string of stars.] âRaven ; âOh, not again! What now ? â âMagpie 1 ; âPeace be upon you Brother Raven, we portend sacred events, hear out our Chorus if you would learn.â â Magpie 2 : âLift up this love of peace and bliss, The starry soul of wine, Destruction's formidable kiss, The lamp of the divine: This shadow of a nobler name Whose life is strife,â âŹwhose soul is fameâ!â âMagpie 3: â I rather will exalt the soul Of man to loftier height, And kindle at a livelier coal The subtler soul of light. From these soft splendours of a dream turn! â âŹand seek the Self supreme. â Magpie 1 â; â⏠This world is shadow-shapen of The bitterness of pain. Vain are the little lamps of loveâ! The light of life is vainâ! Life,â âŹdeath,â âŹjoy,â âŹsorrow,â âŹage and youth Are phantoms of a further truth.ââ âMagpie 2; âBeyond the splendour of the world, False glittering of the gold, A Serpent is in slumber curled In wisdom's sacred cold. Life is the flaming of that flame. Death is the naming of that name,â Magpie 3 :â â⏠The forehead of the snake is bright With one immortal star, Lighting her coils with living light To where the nenuphar Sleeps for her couch. All darkness dreams The thing that is not,â âŹonly seems.â â âMagpie 1; âThat star upon the serpent's head Is called the soul of man. That light in shadows subtly shed The glamour of life's plan. The sea whereon that lotus grows Is thought's abyss of tears and woes. Magpie 2 â; â⏠Leave Sirenusaâ! âŹEven Greece Forgetâ! âŹthey are not thereâ! By worship cometh not the Peace, The Silence not by prayer. Leave the illusions,â âŹlife and time And Death,â âŹand seek that star sublime,â Magpie 3 â; â⏠Until the lotus and the sea And snake no longer are, And single through Eternity Exists alone the Star, And utter Knowledge rise,â âŹand cease In that which is beyond the Peaceâ!â â [They fly off.] âRaven ; â They are eloquent ⌠I will give them that. Now, where was I? Oh yes, this diagram one of my ravenâs bought to me.â ( Raven unfolded it and showed it to Centaur ) . â[outer curtain closes ] âScene - The Doodle . âNymph .... â[outer curtain opens , small backdrop is the âdoodleâ with backdrop 1 behind it .Raven and Cetaur are examining the doodle ] Centaur ; ââThat is strange indeed brother Raven, but it is not unusual for Man to try to understand things thus. Although obscure, we can see them struggling towards understanding of the concepts. ââ It appears you have comprehension of the process and now can see how one side of our worthy Hydra is that spirit in Manâs soul that may rise above and comprehend the Greater God?â âRaven ; â Yes, but what does this have to do with suffering ? And why does Hydra at times have many heads and not one.â Centaur; â Because men sometimes cannot see it that way,â âŹthey have trouble seeming unity as they live in duality,â âŹand duality spreads to triplicity and before you know it you have multiplication of formsâ âŚâŹ likeâ âŹthose fellows Plato and Lao Tsu tried to explain to them.â âŹSo sometimes it is explained in that multiplication of forms.ââ âRaven; âHow so?â âCentaur ; â Have you seen the reverse of the diagram that was delivered to you?â âRaven ; âReverse ? ⌠It has a reverse? â âCentaur; âRaven! You must really learn to pay attention, it is very frustrating to the forces that be and rule our development and spiritual growth when they drop things in our lap and we hardly notice! Turn it over and look at the other side.â â[ curtain closes ] âScene - The âEvilâ Hydra . â[ curtain opens - same scene but the reverse of the image is now up .] âNymph ..... Raven ; â That IS rather strange.â âŹI am wondering what all those heads representâ? âŹI know not what in Man has many heads.ââ⏠Centaur ; â âThe soul that is inside man came from the Empyrean and passed through the seven spheres, these are the 7 gifts that Man can have, if he grows and develops properly, they will , in turn awaken in himâ ââDid you not listen to the Magpies chorus? âThe forehead of the snake is bright with one immortal starâ and âThat star upon the serpent's head is called the soul of man.â â Raven ; âAh yesâ!âŹThat eye on the brow that sees in spirit is its head and its tail lies in manâââŹs reproductive organsâ âŚâŹ its all curled up together but when the snake awakensâ âŚâŹ and comes up from the depths of the water it must make sure the person is worthy to receive its blessingâ âŚâŹ â ( he thinks a bit more ) â âŚâŹ â and that connects ManâââŹs sacred creative ability with his inner visionâ âŚâŹ thatâââŹs rather cleverâ âŚâŹ whoever thought of thatâ âŹ.â âŹI see why it is not shown on the diagram as it is hidden within the body,â âŹbut the soul,â âŹon a higher and more subtle plane sees through thatâ âŹsecret eye.â âŹBut man fears these as well,â âŹand some think them evilâ?â âCentaur ; âSome give them more trouble than others, Venus for example and the sexual energy. But consider other parts of the Magpieâs chorus; âAnd kindle at a livelier coal the subtler soul of light. From these soft splendours of a dream I turn, and seek the Self supreme.â And âLighting her coils with living light, to where the nenuphar sleeps ... All darkness dreams - The thing that is not, only seems. â Raven ; âBut I am gettingâ âŹa little confused did not Hercules cut the heads off the Hydra in another story,â âŹthus defeating herâ ?â⏠Centaur ; ââHercules again ! Herculesâ journey is about Manâs literalist approach, and how his ego opposes lost soul. Of course soul can NEVER be defeated by ego ⌠it may seem to be supressed for a time but like all suppression it resurfaces in different ways and in multiples of itself. ââ Hercules! Bah ! That is one of those myths that shows Manâs wrong approach ⌠so , of course, everyone admires him. â ââIf you remember the story, the thing that happened when Hercules cut off any of the Hydras heads was, firstly, water gushed out ⌠he released the waters of the depths contained within the depths of Manâs psyche. And secondly each neck then grew three heads. This is because when man cannot understand singularity - the Empyrean, firstly manifests in Triplicity; the thing itself and how it manifests in the world of duality, thus the mortals always have lessons in Triplicity; Life â birth & death, Tao â Yin & Yang, Humanity â man & woman and recently electrical charge â positive and negative ⌠and so on âŚâ âRaven : âAnd on this diagram, on both sides we see that unity, and below are the nine heads, making the ten, and also the first three above, with the 7 below ⌠and I assume those 7 relate to the 7 stars that wander about the sky, unfixed as we seem to be?â âCentaur ; âNow you are getting the hang of it.â Raven : ââBut Man sees these things as bad things as well?â Centaur ; âAh yesâ! âŹBut Man perceives in duality. He sees one thing as two things that are separate and then separate men decide which side of duality is reality.â âŹSo then is Man in conflictâ; âŹman against man.â âŹThe man of Wisdom however sees One and all men as one.â âŹTo some men,â âŹand in Man at some times,â âŹthere is a view that these eyes,â âŹor senses,â âŹor processes of the One are hindrances.â âŹSome have called themâ âŹâsore spotsââ⏠and are offended by their various functions.â âŹIn duality they can be seen asâ âŹâeitherââ⏠levels through which Men have fallen,â âŹand hence are barriers to the One,â âŹor stages through which Man can ascend and comprehend the One.â âŹBut like your parchment and diagrams,â âŹthey are,â âŹof course two sides of the one parchment.â âŹIf one holds it up to the Light and allows Light to pass through it and illuminate it and that same light strikes oneâââŹs eye than the One and one image can be seen.ââ âRaven ; ( takes up the image and holds it up to the light to see both sides as one ) âBut I know many men do not see it like thatâ protested raven âthey live in fear of the forces deep within ⌠many donât want to look within.â Centaur ; âThats true . I have seen men and women even listening to a story such as thisâ âŹ,â âŹjust the first part,â âŹand then declare they want to hear no moreâ âŹâ justâ âŹwhen they are at the crucial point of having great mysteries revealed to themâ ! âŹâ â If the soul is not honored or accepted in the right wayâ âŹ,â âŹwhich is according to its nature,â âŹit can demand attention,â âŹit can morph and twist the images,â âŹseeking a form that WILL get attention and it wont give up until it does get some type of attention.â âŹThis can make some men more afraid and more reluctant to see the soul and forces and unconscious needs within,â âŹwhich in turn morphs the soul into more torturous formsâ âŹ,â âŹwhich of course creates more fear for the man and more torture for the soulâ âŚâŹ.â âŹUntil it all ends up in a right mess and Hydra has become the monster instead of the teacher and men are fearful to look below the surface and into the deep water of their psyche.â [ The Magpies return]. M1. â Far out with the foam of the present that sweeps to the surf of the past:â Where beyond the extreme sea-wall,â âŹand between the remote sea-gates,â Waste water washes,â âŹand tall ships flounder,â âŹand deep death waits: â M2. â Where,â âŹmighty with deepening sides,â âŹclad about with the seas as with wings,â And impelled of invisible tides,â âŹand fulfilled of unspeakable things,â M3. â White-eyed and poisonous-finned,â âŹshark-toothed and serpentine-curled,â Rolls,â âŹunder the whitening wind of the future,â âŹthe wave of the world.â â M1 ; âThe depths stand naked in sunder behind it,â âŹthe storms flee awayâ; In the hollow before it the thunder is taken and snared as a preyâ; âM2 ; âWith travail of day after day, and with trouble of hour upon hour; And bitter as blood is the sprayâ; âŹand the crests are as fangs that devour:â M3 : âAnd its vapour and storm of its steam as the sighing of spirits to beâ; And its noise as the noise in a dreamâ; âŹand its depth as the roots of the sea:â M1; âAnd the height of its heads are the height of the utmost stars of the air:â And the ends of the earth at the might thereof tremble,â âŹand time is made bare. M2 ; â Will ye bridle the deep sea with reins,â âŹwill ye chasten the high sea with rodsâ? Will ye take her to chain her with chains,â âŹwho is older than all ye Godsâ? Ye are Gods,â âŹand behold,â âŹye shall die,â âŹand the waves be upon you at last. All ye as a wind shall go by,â âŹas a fire shallâ âŹye pass and be past .â [ The Magpies fly off ] Raven ; ââI see . ⌠It seems to me , at times Man must go through a âdark nightâ in relation to his soul. But what has all this to do with me?â âCentaur ; âYour adventures are just not happenstance. Your story is a myth to instruct Man in the way of his development, if he can and has the will to develop his ability to perceive it . ââSo you see, dear Raven ⌠that is getting older and wiser before my eyes, as we continue our discourse ⌠Man must ever develop, understand and strengthen those senses, and bring them into balance so they can rise higher up the Tree of Knowledge and perceive that one Empyrean from whence they were born and to which they shall return.â âRaven ; âUnto what purpose O wise Centaur?â âCentaur ; â OH!â ( he laughs ) âNot even the Gods know that, that is the one thing that his hidden from even them, they themselves are not privy to any purpose of the Empyrean ⌠that is why Man is such a mystery to us â besides the issues of their behavior ⌠but then again it seems not much better than the Gods at times.â âRaven : â I can vouch to that ! It was certainly true of Apollo! But still, here I am; stuck here and cannot move.â â( Raven flapps and flutters his wings to no avail.) Centaur ; ââThat is our fate and function. My centaurs move about and converse with me as do your ravens. It is not for us to move along Manâs path but to assist that movement. We feel that we are suspended in space unmoving, pinned in position by the unmoving stars that make up our bodies while beneath us the world spins on its axis and turns about the Sun. But from Manâs perspective, he is stuck on Earth and watches us and the heavens rotate above him. It all depends on oneâs point of view.â âRaven ; â âWell, that is very interesting ⌠but Man does not particularly like the Raven, he associates us with Apolloâs curse , believes we reside in hell and rule over death.â Centaur ; ââWell, that is partially true but if Man seeks to understand the full story, if he âŹchooses to learn from what the Gods and us and our stories teach him, he âcan understand ⌠and many do. â ââ Have you noticed that you are no longer dry and parched and are beginning to speak wisdom instead of cawing and croaking and complaining about yourself and your situation?â âRaven : â Well, yes, now that you mention it. I do feel much better and refreshed ⌠although I am still a little thirsty.â âCentaur ; âYou have drunk some of the water of life, that water that is indeed sweet, and the water that nourishes development of the soul. But you remain thirsty as you desire more of this knowledge. ââ And that , dear Raven, is your precious gift to man, the thirst that inspires him ever onward to seek hidden knowledge, clothed in symbol, analogy and myth (as that is the language of the soul), and to continually advance.â Raven : ââWell I must say this is all food for thought ⌠it is great food though ⌠and I feel somewhat more satisfied with my lot than ever ⌠although I must admit I am STILL hungry.â Centaur ; ( laughs ) âââŹOf course you areâ ! âŹAnd so shall you remain,â âŹfeasting and drinking amongst the stars,â âŹfinding satisfaction but never being completely satisfiedâ âŹ..â âŹand that,â âŹof course is the way it should be.â âŹEventually Man will reach a further understanding,â âŹand with that a new golden age will come.â âŹThe figs shall again ripen and when Apollo or Zeus uproot that tree and together with the Hydras pool,â âŹhurl it up into the heavens and the stars have moved about their greater courseâ âŹ-â âŹwhich they actually do,â âŹbut unseen of us and Man - You shall once again sit in that tree and eat to your content and drink the sweet water of truth and share that with Man,â âŹas that is ManâââŹs final destiny,â âŹif he will accept it. Raven : âBut Man doesnâââŹt realise that,â âŹhe shuns the darkness and fears it.ââ⏠Centaur ; ââNot all Men ⌠some realise the depths of their psyche holds the key to release their soul, they have understood that repression of this realm by their ego only causes more complications and difficulty. Those are the types that do you honor. And you must, regardless of what the others say about you, or how they treat you, expose this world to all, you must rip open the covering and expose their truth, or false hoods within, so they must learn from them ⌠and you must never give up ⌠as your ravens on earth know by instinct. Never let them scare or chase you away ⌠stay just out of reach, but NEVER give up on them. â In fact my dear Raven you are one of the most significant and important symbols for the development of Manâs salvation ! â âRaven ; ( stands proud and tall , looking triumphant ) â[Curtain closes .... lights dim .... a spot on upper right comes on revealing the Orator on the side of the stage ] âOrator ; â And the raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber doorâ; And his eyes have all the seeming of a demon's that is dreaming, And the lamp-light o'er him streaming throws his shadow on the floorâ; And my soul from out that shadow that lies floating on the floor Shall be liftedâ âŹ-â for âŹevermoreâ! â â[ lights out ] âEND .

Anyone here practise Chinese classical martial-arts?
Nungali replied to galen_burnett's topic in The Rabbit Hole
Yes, that seems part of it . I know there can be other parts too ; Eg , in one form we did , there is an upward sweeping movement with the hand , fingers pointing up ( I call it 'crane strikes beak into throat ' { not the throat, but above the 'Adam's Apple ' upward at 45 deg. } ) and at the same time , the leg is lifted in a similar action to what I described in the other movement . So I tried it on someone ( well, he says he is a 6th Dan, so .... ) ; one has to be in close to strike up to the throat ... I tried it = knee in his balls , he doubled over and got the rising 'break' strike in an eye . I have found that if one has a wide variety of cross training and styles and technique , many holes in mis or not understood moves can be resolved .... like that classic 'unknown' move in Kusanku form . This is all due to a cultural process . I studied mostly its effect on MA in a Japanese form , but similar applies to Chinese . Eg . What ! ? You DARE to ask the MASTER a question ? or in Japanese culture see the principles of tatame and honne and their proclivity to copy 'master' without understanding or questioning . Now, continue that down the generations . -
I can see some old landowners law that got embedded in religion to justify it . You poor people , eat the fruit on the ground , but if you touch the fruit on my tree , then you will suffer ! I have to say i prefer a certain Indian method better ; harvest or buy what you can , make food out of it , and offer that to the poor and hungry .

And on that Tree the 'fall of man is depicted as different and a little more complex than 'double speak ' . Clearer images and and a study of the symbology involved might reveal more than a tendancy to 'double speak' (based on a minor grammatical rule ... than can change - depending on circumstances [ and I would venture to suggest that constant 'speaking with forked tongue ' , would not have been said by Amerindians if they didnt detect a behavioral difference between Amerindians and IE 'white folks' in the first place ... so I am seeing it as a method of invading war lord cultures ( like the ancient Hebrews and all the other IE 'white folks' . Same thing happened here ; lies lies lies , and not from the indigenous ) . ]

So .... to be accurate in one's translation ... exactingly ..... and its implications ; One could eat the fruit of the tree if someone else picked it , but not FROM the tree ... what ? No picking it yourself ? If an apple fell from the tree and rolled down hill and you found it and ate it ? All Good . if you picked the apple direct FROM ( not 'of' ) the tree "certain death, body and soul, total annihilation, at the hands of heaven, your name will be erased from the book of life as if you were never born." I just luv theology ! ... especially from the 'experts ' .

Thus the end of the cycle is reflected in the end of a life .

You can emulate the qualities of water without even considering the damage a flood does , or the oceans rising or being pelted with torrential rain . You can observe how birds behave and learn from that , even if they occasionally crap on you . You can observe and eventually learn the various principles behind natural processes and incorporate them into your life . Or you could not understand all of that and think 'Why should I do that when a wildfire could burn my house down ? ' Methinks you might have your porridge and fish mixed up a bit .

Nungali replied to galen_burnett's topic in The Rabbit Hole
I'll start o/f by throwing a wild question at you ; In a few spear or longer staff forms ( and in one long staff form I practice * there is one move like it ) there is a move like ; one end of the staff or the spear is sweeping up , usually from the back, coming down and then to the front , sweeping up rather vigorously and ending in a high position . As it sweeps up , the rear leg is lifted into a high position , knee bent and high up , lower leg vertical and foot down . Why lift the leg up when doing that ? -

Nungali replied to galen_burnett's topic in The Rabbit Hole
yes please ! We have long threads on that in the past , it used to be a much more popular subject here back then . I had a lifetime of practice, not in Chinese arts , but towards the last 10 years , Okinawan, which has or had a strong Chinese influence and possibly origin . I too have personal criticisms of what happened to them ( they got turned into that weird modern practice of 'karate' ... they even changed the letter form (kanji ) in the word 'karate' that meant 'Chinese hand ' (boxing) to 'empty hand' and removed the weapon training . I fell out of love with that many years back , have criticisms ... which I can demonstrate validly 'on the floor' as they say , and back up historically . -

I detect no wall at all between us . So I dont know what you mean . We all have an 'in there' and by that I mean our internal thought processes that are not expressed outwardly . One thing that does surprise her though is how I can 'read' / know what is going on 'in there ' ... when it is active , and especially excited ... I often pre- empt something, just as she is about to burst it forth , and a few times she is incredulous ; " How could you possibly know that ! ? " - I have no explanation but a shrug and "I'm psychic. " . So its not a case of a wall being there , or me putting up a wall, or me needing to remove bricks or whatever . However I think we are all entitled to a 'private place ' in our minds and memories , and I would not attempt to penetrate that in her ... or anyone else ... call it 'psychic ethics' if you want . My question still stands .... does a person who is quiet / introverted on the 'outside' reflect that in their inner thought processes .

The pure innocence of pre-arrest ...... age ; having dinner at sisters many years back , our Mum and her friend present and other family members . My sisters little boy comes out the bathroom, shuffling, pants around ankles ; " Mum ! Mum ... help ! " " What's wrong ? " " My willie swelled up and got all big ... look ! " " Goodness ! ... and how did that happen ? " " I dont know ! .... I was rubbing it and it just started happening all by itself ! " - me, sister's friend are cracking up , Mom and friend finding interest in another direction . sister ? cool as a cucumber ; " Well, maybe if you stop rubbing it, it will go back down again . "
-
Hmmm ..... I think a lot , not sure it helps as much as I ...... thought . My friend is very 'quiet' ... she says she is an introvert (my GOD ! and she associates with me ! ) . I find it very unusual and different , a distinct 'lack' of verbal communication - I persevere and patience and I find 'things get through' to me via other (more 'mysterious' ) methods ... dont know how she does that . Anyway, I am wondering what , how much, in what way , 'quiet' or 'introverted people' ... think / run mental process / have internal dialogue .... or is it just 'quiet' ' in there' ?

How would you counter this hypothesis to the âEnlightenmentâ idea?
Nungali replied to galen_burnett's topic in General Discussion
Interesting post . For me ; ' hermetically / magically ' 'bliss' is a third state , a pendant to or an origin of the other two states , not one of the states in duality with the other . For example , not 'Bliss' opposed to suffering but a tripartite arrangement ecstasy thought feeling Its hard to explain , from a person perspective I 'suffer from ' ( ) prolonged bouts of eudamonia within this , I might be up or down , feeling great or not , at ease or in physical pain . But it doesnt effect the 'inner bliss' . Its sorta a way or process of 'getting above' things . We can also use the planets to explain , the inner ones, the 'personal planets , those that make up the triple arrangement of the psyche (positioned around the Moon , the Unconscious , and linked to the Sun , the Ego) - the base line of this pyramid is the Mars / Venus polarity but the apex is Mercury , that force that moves 'between the worlds' (from that dualistic base line of 'the extremes of one thing ' ) to the higher realm . Total and forever , eternal bliss state ? Nah . Afterlife doesnt work like that , I won't go into a dissertation on it here , but I think your post contains a good set of observations as to why this can not be so .- 568 replies
