I have a one legged stance little 'seminar' that I do . " What good is the one-legged stance ? " many have asked . ' Flying or double flick kicks excluded . Hmmm ... interesting , that seems a bit like 'clear blue sky' visualization ; I teach to use our 4 elemental energies in different ways for sword work , 3rd level , mind and air , the practice is to cultivate 'no mind' and if this is hard to do , just think of 'clear blue sky ' , no other thoughts . I think this is why a lot of indigenous people have a different understanding about the connection between earth and heaven ( in this case the night sky ) they see one as a reflection of the other . A very large part of their life, for the Australian Aboriginal for example is spent looking up at the stars , in a clear sky . Two systems emerge there ; a practical survivalist strategy regarding seasons and celestial movements but also a complex codified system of initiatory stories/practices and teachings.

Hi . Interesting post . First off, I do not do qigong , but I have another similar practice , so my comments might be invalid to your experience . As time goes on I work more and more with heaven / earth concept ( martial arts , 'energy work' , gardening ). But if there is duality , there is always a third principle. In this case I call it ' surface ' , ie, where does earth 'stop' and heaven 'begin' ? Does the atmosphere include earth or is it heaven ? ( these are all rhetorical questions ) Or is the surface of the earth, that " support from the ground beneath our feet " ? if so then our bodies are in heaven , connected to the earth . Or ... one thing I like working with , hara or LTD is mid point , below that is earth and above heaven . Or, a bit more radical visualization ; hara is in heaven because it is the center of the Universe . Another heaven earth meditation is an attempt at a visualization of yourself sitting on the ground / surface of the earth and try to get a concept of the relative sizes or yourself and the earth . Then meditate on the forces and immensity inside the earth , the pressurized vortices of radioactive and electromagnetic forces that 'broil' inside and burst outward ... while you sit on the tiny thin eggshell of crust with all that beneath you . And above you, with merely the thin protection of air lies the immensity of space, more radiation , vacuum and freezing temperature . I relate to your gardening idea ... I used to work for Biodynamic Agriculture Australia and are familiar with Steiner's ideas , fascinating stuff. I read a book called 'The Underworld' once , it was about all the life that lives underground ; from the microscopic to the mammal , what they do and the effects they have . I'd like to read that book again, it was great ! Also, being in Australia , having an interest and practice in indigenous 'spirituality' , the earth connection in that system is crucial and at the core of the tradition . Is cosmic energy the same as heaven ? Not really , for me . Heaven is more of a general and flexible concept but can include cosmic energy . Cosmic energy is two types ( again, for me ) one is general and vague ... it is the idea of drawing energy into the hara from a sphere all around you that has infinite radius ( another description of heaven , while to compliment that, the earth principle is the center of this sphere which (in an infinite radius sphere ) is 'everywhere ' . The 'heavenly energy' then flows through your body in different ways . The other type is a combination of 'far space radiation' tapped into by the solar system and 'modulated' by the planets and their positions to be 'reflected' / transformed by the Moon and bathing the Earth - that is specifically the cosmic energy used in Biodynamic agriculture . It is also the principle behind 'Hermetic development ' of the self .

Thats why I commented on your example about the meteorite . Also not sure what they (scientists) would do ( aside from me imagining some science fiction scene ) , if dangerous they 'issue alerts and warnings' . How does science change a meteorite's orbit ? .... without imagining some super science anti-meteorite missile or something that we have not got yet .

Maybe 'amateur scientists' - the last one (meteor, a few days back ) came the closest yet .... UNDER high satellite orbit ! It was only noticed a few days before that by a 'sky watcher' / amateur astronomer . AFTER that the scientific authorities took a look and ' dont worry, its not a huge one ' and decided it was going to be near miss .

I blame Mercury . It went and positioned itself next to the Sun , inside Earth's orbit . Very hard , apparently . I post on a history forum ; all sorts of people professionals , casual readers, various nationalities do 'it' . Sometimes it seems like a wave of mis- comprehension . A recent topic was about what differences distinguish Man from the other animals. Wow ! I gave my answer ( based on an over 30 year study of anthropology and some other side subjects ) and the responses I got ; " Man is also an animal ! " I never said he was not . " Man didnt come from apes ! " - but I never said that . I kept pointing it out, the conversation developed about 'self awareness' people got impatient with me and one guy challenged me ' Alright then . how would you phrase ' being aware of your own existence ' ? My answer was ; " being aware of your own existence " and I added " Why do people keep paraphrasing me and not quoting me and using the words I actually used . I chose those words and arranged them in that way, to convey a special meaning . By changing the words you changed my meaning to YOUR meaning, and now you are arguing not against what I wrote , but actually arguing against yourself and what you wrote . " Then the guy that asked me that question got angry with me for 'quoting back at him ' . .... and probably put in a report . The report side usually 'wins' .... such is life ( as they have made it ) .

I see it as like the Dao . I know what it is, but its undefinable Besides what is in a name ? They put a book out ; how to make a number 1 hit in a month (or something like that ) ... they had done that enough times . One crazy group got together and did it via the instructions in the book . What they did was nuts , crazy , silly, over the top ...... got a number 1 ! And of course they where hounded ; for music, for shows, for interviews and they just cut it all off, said thats it ..... 'disappeared' and erased everything and that means millions of $$$$ of revenue gone ( after market stuff , etc . ). Poof ! Gone . The journos sniffed story and money so where eager . They where told to meet at Heathrow airport . There was a 'ritual' , 'performance' ??? ( by now, no one could tell ) by some Japanese 'dancers' and all sorts of 'antics' , money burning , a giant wicca man burning , followed by a huge dance party and who knows what happened . Was this the beginning of 'Burning Man' type event ? then there was the whole incidents involved with ; how do we get rid of this million pounds - they eventually burnt it . Then they got the big music award in UK and did 'that stuff' on stage . They where going to kill and dismember a live sheep ( and that certainly was not on the program) , one of them was about to play the 'guitar solo of his life' that he dreamed of as a kid, and here was the moment ! he only had 20 or 30 seconds ... but he pulled his guitar cord out and could not play and spent 20 seconds trying to find it amidst the mess on stage Then they sorta walked off .... and left a dead sheep out the back somewhere . It got rather weird or 'Dadaist' , there was talk of other mutilations .... maybe like a previous 'artists' had declared he wanted to do ; chop his hand off on stage and throw it into the audience . Well, thats a 'progression' from throwing money at them I suppose . Still, they seemed confused as to why they where doing all this, they didnt know why . Thats what they said in all the touring conferences they did ABOUT the burned money ; people where outraged ; " Why did you do that ! ? " They replied , "Thats what these conferences are for .... we hoped we could find out why why did it." It goes on and on .... finally they met in the country ; one in the old 23 KLF police car , the other in a van with two dead cows in the back . IMO awareness is a basic requirement , but by itself , is not enough . For a start, balance is another key aspect . being an hermeticist I wholly agree with the 'know yourself' as a first principle ... but does that knowing cause mastery ? No, it is a first step along a long journey . Knowing how a car works , or even being able to pull the whole engine apart and put it back together is very different skill from driving the car ... and most are not even driving - they are in the back seat, not knowing what to do , while the car careers around by itself .
