If i am 100% happy and accepting to present moment - why do anything ?
Nungali replied to waterdrop's topic in Daoist Discussion
For the joy of being alive . Why be 100% with your new motorcycle .... and never ride it ? Why have a fantastic GF and never spend time with her ? Why have a dog and not pat and play with it ? Why be 100% happy alive and .... do nothing . Thiss however does not mean that I dont often slip into the state you describe , it just isnt permanent , and even when I am in it , I am usually doing something ; appreciating the view , listening and learning about bird calls ... even the cyclic pulse of the crickets and bugs. Maybe it all boils down to what we think the purpose of life is ? Mine is to enjoy and experience it , to have a good life . Also, I have written here over the years a few times on this ; I cant see the point of achieving enlightenment and going off sitting in a cave or a cabin or an apartment and 'contemplating one's navel . I am more a proponent of the Sufi approach ; the bricklayer studies Sufism and mysticism , maybe he retires for a while , or does a period in isolation , maybe he becomes enlightened . he doesnt go and do nothing now, just because he is happy and enlightened, what happens is he has become an enlightened brick layer , or a master builder , now his village or city has an enlightened builder . . . instead of some ignorant , patch up , potentially dangerous and uninspiring buildings . -
Its the same in western tradition ; air is spirit . pnuema , breath of life , etc https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pneuma But there is a 'higher' air that is different from 'elemental air ' or 'normal breath'. In the first air is primary, at the apex of a triangle with fire and water as the polarities. In the second it is the 3rd principle in a fourfold arrangement and ore the product of rather than the origin of the primary fire and water elements . With all this 'breath stuff' 'things' ( many things ) become focused around the chest area , eg, strength is thought (or thought unconsciously -which drives the body even stronger ) to reside in and around the shoulders and upper arms . Which is 'above' the 'heaven earth intersection' part of the body - hence causing a potential 'over balance ' Hope that gives an insight to 'sinking' chi to LDT .

Yes. I can understand and agree with the threads premise - but only 'in the moment ' . I do go into the state he explains , at times , but it doesnt last long as something eventually arises that 'needs to be done ' . The 'trick' is to maintain that inner 'satisfaction and happiness' while we move into 'action' . Then life becomes not just contentment , but joy . in action . -

Aha ! Now i get you . But my answers to others in this area have not been popular as I find 'the masses' often dont get this . I have seen a lot of people make blunders and a mess of things due to bad decisions ... when they never had to make those decisions in the first place . I mean, I thought I was making sense and it was obvious but no, a friend helped me realise that. he looked surprised at me and said 'Thats what my father used to say ! " What I said was " You dont always have to try out things and fail to see what works or does not, you can observe others and learn from their experience ." This sounds obvious, but it isnt for a lot of people . I pinned my XGF down on that one , we discussed it in depth , she insisted SHE needed the direct experience to learn , made terrible decisions and suffered from it ( as did her children ) , but just kept doing it . Basically, it's 'smarts'. Sufis talk about it ; 'learning how to learn' . We need to learn this stuff as we go along . We have the accrued observation of others actions as a demonstration AND more importantly, our own demonstrations ; you sip a drink, you dont like it, you decide not to drink it , you do, so you drink more. You observe and analyse the results, on yourself and externally . Basically, its a 'feedback loop' - you try something, you analyse for result, good or bad, you modify accordingly and reimplement then try again, analyse again, modify again , etc . Some people seem to need to do the same action over and over again without analysis or modification . If the system isnt intelligent , the loop won't work . - I hope that made some sense to you .... I might have got confused myself in there -

I would say 'your' spirit is somehow broken and that should be the motivation to do something ( to do something about a broken spirit, I mean ) . Personally, I find it 'theoretical' to be both perfectly happy and being bored , and being happy with being bored . We are not talking lobotomy or medication here ? Thats the idea I get from a state of, always happy, and bored and happy with bored .... urk ! I dont believe in the stasis / 'steady stare' theory myself - it's either advance and onward or entropy and decay . So for me the 'God force' is in the go-ing , not ( merely just ) the be-ing -

What would I do ? Hang out with this guy ^ . reminds me of a joke : A man asks a woman if she was going to be trapped on an island alone with one man, indefinitely , who would it be ? "" John Wayne " "Why him ?" "Well, he is big and strong, can hunt and fish, chop firewood , fight off baddies and dangerous animals , is righteous and a gentleman , defends the meek .... " Man; " Hmmmm , come to think of it , I would choose John Wayne too . " -

Out of boredom ? ...... "Stir the pond' a bit . In my philosophy life is about more than happiness , although that is VERY important . When one feels an overwhelming deep , and gratitude about being alive, then one wants to explore as many aspects of one's life as possible . -
I see . You said MOST of my posts are '''' blah blah blah ... " but you only read 3 or 4 . I already explained about the nasty ones . I have read some of your posts too . Please feel free to NOT read any more of mine . .
-
Some other explanation could be; maybe you haven't read enough of them yet ? For you to judge to content of MOST of my posts , you would have had to read over 8.000 of them . However, if you feel that about most of my posts that you read , yes it could appear that way and in that case no, I have no other explanation. . .

I remember reading that a LOOOOOONG time ago . Ballard has an unusual style ... I like it , but it sets a strange mood . he is also good at creating internal imagery with his words . I also enjoyed his 'Crystal World' - where , for some reason , everything started crystallising - turning into multi coloured transparent crystals; the trees , fences , houses , the forest , animals .... . As a teen that entranced me ... especially the part with the crystallised / jewelled alligator “Au revoir, jewelled alligators and white hotels, hallucinatory forests, farewell.”― J.G. Ballard

Such behaviour occurs when the 'parents' are away . I see 2 causes ; 1. Naughty kids mucking up becasue there is no discipline here . 2. Others giving it back to them x3 .... because no one else is doing anything about it , or what they are doing is ineffective . I know I have annoyed some people as they saw it as 'feeding the fire' . Sorry to those folks , but IME these types cannot handle getting their own medicine back at all, it eventually gets to them so much they implode or break down or run off . The fire will flare up , and eventually consume them. Yes, there was some 'collateral' damage in the process , but hey .... the guy was running around burning people and the site left right and centre . No fire brigade , so I set fire to him instead . He was starting to falter , other one's , strangely supporting him , gave up and started to pull their head in. And then .... on cue ; Maybe he crapped himself and ran off .... maybe he just got the chop ? .... or maybe his parents eventually came home and found out what he was doing ? (I am also a bit amused that some people took some of my 'reflective ' comments 'back at him' as serious statements that I believe about myself )

And another one nearly missed . Hi Gerhard . There are a lot of people here interested in and practising martial arts, various spiritual traditions and the other things you mentioned . Discuss, question, inform ..... and welcome

Here is another one ( 'tai chi' fights ) I am assuming there is a move like this in Tai Chi ; its a simple evasive turn, to let a person that is rushing you head on 'pass by'. A mate wanted to learn some SD off me . We live far apart and visit rarely so I had little time and told him I could not show him much but would show him 2 or 3 basic moves which might help . We practised that turn , drilling it , over and over . A couple of months later he tells me some agro guy was trying to upset him in a bar , so he left. But the guy followed him outside.. he ignored him and went to his car to drive home but the guy rushed him as he was about to get in after he opened the door . he did that turning move and the other stumbled forward, overbalanced and fell forward hitting his temple on the top corner of the open door and ripping a huge gash up his head . He didnt have a clue how that happened, thought he must have slipped or tripped, mate got a towel out the car and wrapped his head up and took him to emergency ward . Dude ended up thanking my mate .... and .... wait for it Mate goes ; " Dont thank me , thank Nungali ! " (nah .... I made that last bit up ) .

The aikido stories used to abound in martial arts mags many years back . One was about the magic kiai that saved a kids a life ; dude saw kid racing along a track on his bike and he was heading for a cliff or some type of danger , dude 'kiais' so powerfully kid falls off bike, this averting disaster, mother realises and rushes up to dude to thank him , and dude goes ... .... wait for it ... ... " Dont thank me , thank aikido ! " Some may not realise but Aikido started off as a VERY radical cult . And nowadays , i some groups, like Aiki-kai , maybe the biggest one , it is very cult like .

My 'occasional' rang me yesterday ; " Okay ... I miss you, I want to come and see you , this is too long ... etc etc . " We even started making plans and comparing contacts ..... the lust bug ! But then she goes : " So-and-so came here the other day and visited me , she said she was concerned that her sons GF who lives in their household went and visited ... blah - blah . " me: "and how do we know where HE has been ? ! She then realised she had been 'compromised ', we came to our senses and decided we would wait and hold out . And we are OLD ! Imagine what's going on out there with the lust filled , dick rules mind , young uns ! Anyways .... I got a few acres to play on in my 'isolation ' . ... and now , the 'Logger Boys' have just turned up, I asked them to come around and saw up some huge logs way beyond the capacity of my chainsaw . What awesome machines they where . I had just gone to the local mill and got some heavy hardwood 3 m, floor joists, I had carried two down to the building site, but my back isnt very good today so I asked them to do that as well . 4 at a time they did ! Man , they got lower calves like little port barrels ! Then the hardware truck came and unloaded posts, beams roof joists roofing iron, boxes of bolts and screws . The they all left ( and I finally got to have breakfast at 2 pm ) . Boy am I gonna have fun for 'locked down Easter ' - no different for me at all, before every easter I rush out and do survival shopping * and hunker down for a week until the tourists go away , stay at home and potter on shed and yard projects - which have boomed ahead, since we are supposed to stay home now . * So , I got up early drove to town thinking ther would be mad shopping or lines outside and only 5 in a time or something . But no, very empty and ... wait for it ... I have been waiting for this moment ... Toilet paper was on the shelves again ! We have , according to my prediction, we have passed the crisis point ( I said weeks back , it won't be over until TP appears on the shelves again ) - here . https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-08/chart-shows-slowdown-in-new-coronavirus-cases/12133558 -
There is (supposedly ) a rough red neck pub at a town nearby here , a lot of loggers and such . One night I was going to go there as an out of area friend was passing though there and we where going to have drinks together . Lady friend here goes "Oh , dont go, thats a really bad, rough pub." So anyway, half way through the night there, this idiot decides he is tough and starts mouthing off at this guy,the other does it back .... back and forwards ... so me and mate and some others joined in ; " Boring ..... BOR - RING ! If ya gonna fight do it .... shut the fuck up .... you are disturbing my drinking .... etc " So they go " Right then I will .... so will I ... step outside then ... you're gonna get it . ... " So we all go outside and these two idiots on the footpath are wildly swinging, slipping over, grabbing and pulling at each other to the cat calls of the audience " Dont do that! ... that was silly .... punch him properly .... you fight like girls .... do you want me to show you how to do it .... etc " Effin hilarious !

I did enjoy that story as ..... I have heard numerous versions of the same story with different details ... all from Aikidoists . Its a sort of Aikido mythology Here is one of my own I used to tell to 'aikido mythology spreaders' ; A small town has an aikido instructor, a boxing instructor, a judo instructor and a karate instructor . One Friday night, down at the pub, all hell breaks loose in a mass fight ; the judo instructor is throwing people around, the boxing instructor is punching people in the head, left right and centre, the karate instructor is doing flying kicks and chopping people ..... Q. What about the aikido instructor ? Him ? Oh, he doesn't go down to the pub at all.

Fantastic self explanation of how you just cannot read or hear anything at all without it first going through your internal 'understand' filter . YOU claimed I said " I want you to quit the board " , but I never did ... and to prove I ' said those words you put up a quote of me saying ; " but wants you to leave " Incorrect ! .... does not match ... Again ! Plus .... you owe me $500 !
