Dont have motorcycle accidents , dont work for years in a hospital, lifting huge overweight people off their beds and the floor, and dragging e-patients out of helicopters, and etc ...where you cannot get into the correct lifting position. Dont train with people that damage your joints. Dont force things ( I had two instructors that 'force stretched' to a stupid level - bioh died of MS (but I dont know if its connected ) . And all of the above ..... maybe some hatha yoga or similar. The diet is important ; Okinawans used to be some of the longest living people on earth, until recently ; they did a lot of exercise, hard work, diet of rice, sweet potato (better than potato ) - bitter melon with nearly every meal, and lots of sea food ( when clean fresh ocean currents flowed by the island ) . Now it has more American military bases per Km than anywhere, Maccas all over the place , polluted waters , junk food and they put spam on their sushi ! Yoiks !

I knew a sailor that was a wiccan, not only that, he said there was more than one on his ship and they used to meet and have these 'magic circles' on a part of the deck they thought was obscured from view. But the Captain found out and called him in for a little talk; "I dont know what you guys are up to .... but you re not getting drunk, taking drugs or being involved in homosexual activity ...... so ..... carry on but be discreet . " Makes one wonder what else was going on there !

Or .... you could use cling film

Thats right ... you would need a special device to ensure safety . I suggest a scrying table, with a hole cut out the centre , stick puss's head through that and gaffa tape his body to the underside, that way you can sit there for hours staring into his eyes , in safety ..... your safety, that is .

He appropriated it (and inserted it into the 2nd degree initiation ritual ) from the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn document ; The Development of the Powers of the Soul. I dont know who the author is ..... perhaps Mathers ?

? Did I say something to suggest that ? < goes and looks > ..... hmmmm .... I said he springs it on us sometimes and that his teacher would' test ' them while doing it . Thats good . You are lucky. There is a LOT of nonsense out there. My tradition comes down through Hohan Soken via Kosei Nishihira ..... and I am trilled to have teachers that can actually teach real old school 'kyusho art' . If you dont know who they are ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nishihira_Kosei - The rest of your response to me has already been answered by Mr. Sternbach ...... thanks Sterny ( yeah, my system is derived from white crane too - or 'Okinawan Crane', as I call it . )

' threaten the user ' ? Are you sure you know what you are talking about ?

Mate has a huge scar across his knee ; one took his kneecap half off, he spent a bit of time in hospital and learning to walk again. He stood up, as a youth, when a visiting elder was having a sit down talk with the men. He got bored and got up to leave ; the guy casually leant over, grabbed his throwing stick and from a sitting position hurled it just above the grass. Just before him, its path curved upward and hit him under the kneecap , instantly collapsing him back into a sitting position . A few old skeleton finds have been made with huge 'war boomerang' holes and creases in the skull . Your comments are fine, for here ... but ... ummmmmm .... if you come over here and say that to the wrong person ........ A "pay back" boomerang injury.

What other kata you doing ?

Minor experience , instructor springs it on us occasionally , I cant see the point - our style is supposedly 'soft style' . I think it is because they like to 'demonstrate toughness' (his teacher would come into class, still in work overalls and work boots, get them to do sanchin and 'test' the positions (does your do that ? Whack, strike and kick parts of your body while you maintain a position ? This one would do it with work boots on . One of those guys would head butt the concrete wall for a bit before training . Some of them got into breaking stuff and all that Okinawan hard school demo stuff . Its good if you want to toughen up ... its good if you want to go into comp and just 'absorb' what they throw at you (especially if the comp has 'no head attack' rules ) . But I cant see the point in 'soft style' 'real fighting' or self defence - unless one is going to 'harden up' their eyes, nuts and knee caps (actually I saw a guy that could take a boot kick to his nuts, doctor checked them out and said that they were now hardened, atrophied, useless balls of scary tissue ... think I would rather wear a 'protector' ! When I was younger it did give a benefit of being able to stand there and take a solid hit in ribs and stomach, but working your way up to 50 sit up sets - doing the sit up fro seiza sitting position ( get another person to hold your knees down and start with your shoulders on the floor ) , so you back is arched before you even start the normal sit up .... all those muscles have to pull the ribs tight together to get to the beginning position of a normal sit up - that will do it . But hey, go-ju is 'hard form' style , so that's their bag.

The tendency to think people of old were dumb
Nungali replied to sustainablefarm86's topic in General Discussion
Here is a classic example of The tendency to think people of old were dumb ; Its from Australian early colonial history - The case of the 'lazy ' fisherman'. A white 'explorer' came upon this scene and entered it in his diary, he starts ff along the lines " I had previously heard these blackfellows were lazy and didnt want to work, but I saw this for myself; I came upon a small stream and one of them was sitting on the bank beside a dam he had built of branches with a narrow opening to let the fish through. On the bank was a long thin stick, stuck into the ground and bent over and the end tied down to a stake next to the opening in the dam. On this was attached a small noose which lay across the opening. A fish would swim through the opening, and the noose, snag its gills, wiggle about and pull the slip not undone, then stick would then whip upright, pulling the fish out of the water up over the man's head to lay on the bank. Then he would 'lazily' re bend the stick and tie it to the stake again and sit there and wait for the next fish. " - what a lazy fellow ! ... I mean , forget the point that he had made own 'fishing machine' . .. . . ..... and of course ; fishing should have nothing to do with laziness -
Knowing you have been somewhere before knowing it is impossible

Hunches seem to suggest intuition. Intuition is most successful in fields one is more familiar with ( been many studies on that) . It is like a function of the 'hidden intellect' or, perhaps, unconscious ; it is processing a huge amount of data ( the part we are not aware of) and sending results to our conscious mind ( that part we are aware of ) . It can be an import and and valuable process. Synchronicity is also based on mental functions but the conscious mind 'interferes' more . Many studies have been done on this too. It does not seem to be an important or valuable occurrence. Omens, I cant see in nay other perspective but the shamanic . I would not try to examine it 'scientifically'. So, omens and hunches ....... hmmmm .... I think I have 'been there' ; one day I decided to do everything on that level, I wondered what happens if one does a 'meditation' where for a day, one tries to make all decisions ... ALL decisions ... via omens and intuition . It turned out to be a very amazing day . -
The tendency to think people of old were dumb

My 2nd post on page 1 might explain it better - but that is more from an 'Hermetic Neo-Kabbalistic' perspective rather than a 'straight' Kabbalistic / more traditional one. -

Da'ath According to the Tanya, Da'at is the third and last conscious power of intellect. But in this context, it is actually the lower Da'at of the partzuf of Zer Anpin (not upper Da'at of Adam Kadmon).[clarification needed] Zer Anpin refers to the 'personification' (partzuf) of six sefirot from Khesed to Yesod - and as a whole embodies its own ten sefirot and its own Da'at. Zer Anpin personifies the revelation of the Torah and relates to the second level of the human soul called "spirit" (ruach), that corresponds to mental aspects, including reason and emotion. Accordingly, Da'at is associated in the soul with the powers of memory and concentration, powers which rely upon one's "recognition" (hakarah) of, and "sensitivity" (hergesh) to, the potential meaningfulness of those ideas generated in consciousness through the powers of Chokhmah ("wisdom") and Binah ("understanding"). Binah is 'intuitive understanding', or 'contemplation'. It is likened to a 'palace of mirrors' that reflects the pure point of light of Chokhmah, wisdom, increasing and multiplying it in an infinite variety of ways. In this sense, it is the 'quarry', which is carved out by the light of wisdom. It is the womb, which gives shape to the Spirit of God. On a psychological level, Binah is "processed wisdom," also known as deductive reasoning. It is davar mitoch davar—understanding one idea from another idea. While Chokhmah is intellect that does not emanate from the rational process (it is either inspired or taught), Binah is the rational process that is innate in the person which works to develop an idea fully. - wiki . -
Basically ... the vampire trend really shits me ..... when one goes to their local library to find the book on traditional Japanese bamboo fence and house designs, one of the best books on alchemy, and great book on 'bushcraft' (making thing s for camp and home out of the local materials and old style methods ) have been removed and the library has 16 copies of the same fiction 'vampire romance' novel ...... its basically the beginning of the end . People are gonna end up like those early Euro 'explorers' here ..... dying of thirst , hunger and exposure in a terrain that had food and water all around them and had supported the Aboriginals very well for 1000s of years (who supplied the dying explorers with food and drink ..... roast duck and sweet cakes, and large wooden bowls of water offered to their horses - according to their diaries ). " I may not be able to light a fire and keep it going long enough to cook my food ..... but I am well versed in vampire lore. " Great ! ....... reminds me of something ;

" With wisdom one gains understanding of what to do with knowledge. " probably more times than I have written the following .... In the Kabbalistic arrangement (on the Tree of Life ) Knowledge is just below the Supernal triangle, it is attributed to Daath - in 'The Abyss'. Above that - the 'base line' of the Supernal Triangle is Binah (understanding) and Chokmah (wisdom) . The implications are ; knowledge, unregulated, can be dangerous if it is not modified by higher forces but it is something that should be gathered and accumulated . What to do with it and how and when to apply it , one needs understanding. How to use that understanding and knowledge and the effects it has (according to one's desires or intent) is wisdom. Yes, 'for ourselves and others', particularly in the case of those in potions of power and control. [The story of King Solomon and the two women claiming one baby is a classic example ; he ordered a seemingly horrible solution, yet knowing and understanding the forces of human nature and motherhood he was able to make a good resolution. ] These polarised forces are manifested 'below' on a more material plane with Chesed and Geburah - Mercy and Power ; " Remember that unbalanced force is evil; that unbalanced severity is but cruelty and oppression; but that also unbalanced mercy is but weakness which would allow and abet Evil." -

I have studied this a fair bit. I tried to answer a similar question like this yesterday ..... and got a rather twisted answer . So I will read more here and wait a bit, to see how this pans out. -
More like 'skating' on a thin crumbly crust, with 5.972 × 10^24 kg of seething raging, molten lava under us and a deadly vacuum of -455 deg. F just above our heads . Somehow, we get away with it - probably because we are such tiny infinitesimal specks .

I do not want to get involved with theories that are based on a string of presumptions, might haves and maybes. They tend to support fantasies.
