The Earth itself is represented by the three elemental trumps that make up matter . I am sorry but that is RUBBISH ... there is no 'north or south pole of a magnet , there is a positive or negative pole on a magnet and a north or south pole of the Earth's magnetic field relating to mapping convention. . I think what IS surprising to some is that the north pole of the Earths EM field is negative ( receptive ) and the south positive (discharging ) . Think of it this way .... the Earth has not changed its poles around to suit a compass ! The end of the compass needle that POINTS north is the opposite polarity of the North pole and is attracted by it . Its the colored part of the needle that some assumed to have a 'north charge ' . or instead we could insist a compasses colored end of the needle IS 'north' ( that is not merely pointing north ) and there fore we need to insist that the north pole is the south pole .
