You know ... that photo could pass as a picture from Australia . I agree about the disowning . How could you cover that sword in rubber ! If I needed to modify a sword for public practice, it would be made or bought for that purpose . But then again, I am assuming the training with your 'real sword' could be done elsewhere , as I am 'space spoilt ' - have an abundance of space, public, or remote. I realise many people dont have that ; an apartment and parks - thats it . One fav spot was in our large bamboo grove; it has many paths and sparse and thick areas. Footwork and manoeuvring is crucial, only thrusts and vertical cuts can be made between the bamboo. Interesting exercise .

Okay, I getchya now .... yes I do . I use what I practice and learn in all parts of my life ; 'life work' , jobs, relationships .. even travel for example I motor cycled for many years and am still alive due to my cultivation of 'spherical awareness' . Helps driving car too. Another example, with Aikido practice; maintaining a calm yet immovable and 'friendly' exterior ( that takes no shit ) helped immensely in a job I had for a while as hospital orderly ; sometimes huge out of it violent people to deal with. Life generally is improved by other shamanic practices ; especially expressing thanks and gratitude for getting the things you were after ... a fulfilled and content life is invaluable . I learnt a LOT about myself others and 'psychology' via 'magick' 'maps of the psyche' , astrological principles , observing and knowing the patterns in nature . Lots of stuff . I see a lot of people stumbling about, unaware, finding it difficult to make headway, creating difficulties and blocks for themselves and projects ( urrrrgh ! no thanks ) .

What I use for 'rubberies' ; bamboo inner , electrical conduit pipe over that, and over that, foam hot water pipe insulator . The conduit guards against the bamboo splitting and piecing the foam outer, the inner bamboo gives more rigidity to the conduit, and the foam outer is so you can whack people really hard with it .... I mean, so you dont hurt people I totally gave up using metal swords, I am never going to use one in 'real life', to defend . And they illegal. Practising with them just puts me 'off form' . I would hesitate to slice a person with metal, but a good 'bok' on the head or arm is enough , if need be.

Years back , I was friends with a lesbian couple , artists and blacksmiths ( the 'big toughh one' I did some Aikido with - she was pretty good ! ) anywayz, they made these amazing swords and weapons , specially designed for women (so they said ) One had an enamelled rose as the guard ! It was mostly for magical use or SCA peeps ..... https://sca.org.au/ Amazing stuff ! ... and women who would play martial arts, swords and smelt and work metal ( and no worries about ..... 'you know ' ) They would probably love to work with you on such a project ... but been years since I have seen them ( One's still has my Susan Wegner Orisha Book Aside ; Susan worked with the Yoruba helping to recreate their original village architecture, shrines and sacred groves with modern materials Well done ! I hate this new ' if it broken throw it away and get a new one ' culture. In the old days of my youth , man would come around to your house in a van to fix TV ... now small cheap one less expensive than van fuel to get to my house ! ... I have to add that , for me , the thread title about 'my kind of life' isn't so tied up and involved with a concept of 'job' . Even when I worked in a job, during my life they were always different and changing. My 'life's work ' ? Now there is a different concept . If your life's work is your job ( that is ; if you have become aware of your true 'incantatory purpose' as a unique individual ... and that is also you job that you get paid for ) ...... you a winner !

No single job but lots of different ones . Each day is different ; I garden or go out and enjoy the surrounds of nature. Lately I have been monitoring our water use , and doing maintenance and repairs trying to track down a 1000 gal a day leak from our water tank. Helping someone get their place set up with water and solar system. Tractor grading some roads and drainage. Yesterday I cooked Persian Jewelled Rice for a shared meal after workday. Today I gotta go little city out on the coast for x-rays. Might check out the beach. Basically its mostly what I feel like doing, but each day is pretty different. My jobs , it allows me to achieve maximum output with minimum effort ( and for that one has to know the whys, wherefores, ways, 'laws' and proclivities of nature and people. - maybe ask that again using different words . Not sure what you mean . I experience and take things in, then I express myself in a variety of ways.

We ended up getting a cool period ... SW winds off the SE Pacific , while further south ( VIC. S.A. ), they roasting . And now ... that delightful cool sea breeze coming up the valley. - Delightful down the river this afternoon. More heat next week .
