Maybe ..... depends. I have made stuff out of beautiful snake skins. I collect ' road kill ' but would never kill them. I have even blocked the traffic on the road with my car to remove live ones sunbaking . (And hey also get a lecture off me "What the hell are you doing ? ! Can't you find a better place to sunbake ? What will happen to the wife and kids if you get run over ! " )

Because they are pythons and some think the pattern on their skin is like a carpet. They use this camouflage to allow them to sneak inside and lay in the middle of the lounge room undetected where they can get warm in front of the fire and watch tv.

Hmmmmm ...... 'backbone' - the connected array of vertebrae (bones ) that run up the middle of the back - 'the spine ' . Vertebrae - each individual bone of the 'backbone' or spine. Invertebrae - no vertebrae around the central nerve 'cord' . Spinal cord - the nerve 'cord' / complex that runs through the vertebrae . Some animals seem all 'backbone' Here is a fascinating fascination; The diamond python , 'carpet snake' , 'rainbow serpent' , Yumbar has a fascinating 'spine' . I have spent a bit of time with these snakes, observing, holding them, closely inspecting them and their behaviour and communicating with them ( done by invoking a specific mental or emotional state and concentrating that towards the snake and watching its response ) , but then I noticed (as I also collect dead ones, road kill etc. and get the skins and bones ) the inside of the pythons skull . There is a channel of fused hollow vertebrae like bones that goes from where the skull connects to the spine, it runs under the skull and is fused to the bottom of it and continues along the roof of the mouth to the nose. !

" Which of course, ultimately rests with Durer. But the other symbolism within the work is interesting. Aside from the square looking out of place in the whole arrangement of the work , I note several symbols that stand out. (and by the way, I am not coming from an eastern perspective, I have only looked into magic squares from the western esoteric perspective, although I have seen forms of them from China and India ) The whole arrangement seems Saturnian ; we have a 'brooding' angel in contemplation with an assistant cherub taking notes. About are scattered tools , things that create structure and form out of raw materials ( a quality Saturn gives ) , an hourglass ( a symbol related to Saturn) is above the angel and scales ( another such symbol - via Libra ) is above the cherub. The background banner and title also link to Saturn (see Donald's post above ) . What I am curious about is the stone block; a cube with opposite corners removed lying on the ground ? (And is that a stone mill wheel the cherub is sitting on ? ) Now a dressed stone can be symbol of Saturn , ( as opposed to the stones earlier form and symbolism as a 'rough ashler' ) ; order structure form and discipline have created a specific function. But why the cut off corners ? Has it fallen from the building, (somewhere up that ladder) , that is perhaps under construction ? or is it about to be lifted into place to fit into a complex joint ? Yes .... a shame Mr Durer didn't do the other humours for comparisons ( but I have always thought this one was somewhat disjointed , the composition doesn't seem to fit together and is awkward ) I do like his work I used to own a huge copy of a book full of his etchings - illustrating the Old Testament stories, western 'Fairy tales' and Dante's works .

Today , when I go to quote a post I get an empty post box with no quote and no cursor and no way to type in the box. So I go back and hit quote again, maybe the box comes up properly or maybe it doesn't, sometimes takes 3 attempts to work, or it doesn't work at all .... ?
