So, it must be a virus ... $100 clean up and out and it works great! ... for 2 days, problem returns. Oh, its that old internet stick. Get it 'tested' - it is fine. Oh ... those things cant handle all the new updated programs and blah blah ..... get this wi-fi thing (another $100 ) great, works fantastic .... for 3 days. Then .... no, I won't bother explaining .... to many things happened, including some sites work some dont. Some sites do some things and not others, some times cant copy of paste or get images or .... any particular arrangement of banning or allowing ... and internet connection dropping in and out, saying it is connected when it isnt and visa versa So today, I decide to try it with its recharge lead plugged into the computer (even though the wifi battery still has 1/2 charge ) and even though it is wireless and that lead is only supposed to charge it , and the wi fi is supposed to run multiple things in the house .... it has fixed the problem ... when it is plugged in, everything works fine, really good actually .... WTF ! .... see .... posted that no probs .

Battery problem ... can a bad battery cause weird stuff (like I am having ) to happen ? My 'tech understanding' is; if it turns on - battery working ....battery problem - doesnt start. (Dont tell me this is all from needing a new battery ? .... Oi ! )

Message ??? I didnt even know I had a virus until the computer technician said mine was full of them .... They installed a virus protection but when I picked up the computer from them and they told me this, I asked them about it ... and got no response ... I framed my question 3 times in different ways and each time I got a response that had nothing to do with my question ... now I have to click on that programme multiple times for it to come up, it doesnt run and when it does says no threats found ... what ? not even the one that stops it running ? That was the first of the problems ... I did that and it wiped out my internet connections and hasnt seemed to re install them properly since ... except today and 2 days ago when I run the computer with the charge lead plugged inbto the wi fi , then no probs occur at all . No ... my final solution is to throw the laptop through the window out into the forest .... its getting close , and if it wasn't for it working when the charge lead is plugged in ....

The 'irony' of this beautiful Lodge just sitting there empty ! I think they had less than a dozen members and had no one interested in years ! They seemed confused by my interest , sparked up a bit as they thought I was a Freemason inquiring about joining them. I just happened to turn up when 3 of them were there,filing or cleaning or doing something with the records, They all seemed very elderly and a bit shaky . However, as far as 'playing pretend Egypt' goes .... its a fav pastime of mine [ seeings as , who knows what the ancient Egyptians really did or thought ( I mean ancient , like in the Old Kingdom , and to an extent , in later times ) ] both, being involved myself and the fascination I have with the 'Victorian gentleman's' emulation of 'Egyptian Mysteries' and its influx into western occultism. .

So, is the Master of the highest Blue Lodges still a 3rd degree ?

'Underground' ? Hmmmm . Death ( 3rd degeree) is certainly part of the set of rites and there is usually a part where the candidate acts dead, he may be on the floor of a temple, his body thrown away (into a significant location), put in an coffin, etc. Being underground would do it. Some get buried. The earliest evidence of such rites seems to suggest caves were used for this and other parts of the ceremonies. One method we experimented with was a reading (and the candidate visualizing ) a chapter from Normandy Ellis' transliteration of the Egyptian 'Book of the Dead'. Its a powerful passage that continues on to the 'resurrection' stage. (I also used it for an 'oration' at a friends funeral, afterwards many asked its origin and expressed how apt and beautiful it was. 'Entering truth' I think the chapter is called. ? In a way .... the baptism can be seen as the 'raising' ... or even the new beginning ( the 1st degree or stage ) . However 'lustration' when water is used, is often related to the first stage, the second often uses oil and is an anointing and consecration. Fire is often associated with death ... a purging and the next raising, resurrection, transformation relates to light. But its all a cycle, the first stage can start with the revealing of light as well. Oh yeah, gotta be 'scary' ... at least have an 'emotive' content, or maybe I should say a psychological content, if the idea is change . That is the whole idea of 'dramatic ritual' ; usually the candidate, or initiate plays the part of the God or hero, as in a mystery play * but often in a rite ( and hence the ideal of secrecy and 'unknown rites' ) the initiate does not know the script. A good rite uses all the keys and triggers to make an impact; oration, song , poetry, color form shape, regalia and furnishings, all symbolic of the work at hand , type of incense even, music, a knowledge lecture, special movements, etc, so all the faculties are stimulated Some take it to a level of virtual assault on the senses - like some of the Tibetan stuff I went to . * The series of mystery plays we did was fantastic, and there were extra benefits from doing the same one's each year as they were a cycle of planetary plays - one could play the God or the hero or also another of the actors. They were all based on astrological or mythological themes, so you could play out the aspects of your own or other astrology, also the astrology changes during each rite, so you can follow the thread by acting those roles in each rite and see the development of the energy. Like the rituals, you can read them and get some experience, but nothing is like the actual experience of partaking .... if you want to know what a mango really tastes like ....

Curious yes ... but some dont. Its the same with court, politics and church, its all based on symbolic ritual but many just doodle along without thinking about that aspect ... its just 'ceremony' and ' tradition'.

Indeed there is. Also its good to examine and apply codes of moral behavior . A lot of it is about what we need to do to get on with each other ( from the anthropological view, all initiation is about, basically, a map of navigating between the 'instinct for self-preservation' and the 'social instinct' ... at the first stage - the natural person becomes a social or cultural person. The second stage is the cultural person becomes a magical person. ) . The same similarities I also see again in indigenous teaching here ; dont lie ... be on the level ... some is very basic, yet lacking a lot of the time ! When the foundation is established in the 3 degrees, then it branches out - into becoming the magical person. hence the variety of groups, degrees, off- shoots - life and people are varied . This is mostly about the tradition generally, with Freemasonry, for me , the form is staid, outdated and too much in ' the old system' , possibly that is why it is declining. Sp joining for the mystery element, one needs to navigate through that. It depends on the local group too. I had past dealings with a Royal Arch Freemason, his interests were similar to mine - magic, hermeticism, alternative lifestyle and energy ( he was on a team for a solar racing vehicle across Australia ), etc. Their group had 'sub-groups' going and multiple memberships as well ( I was in a group he was also a member of ). Also I have heard Masons say that there is no mystical knowledge , but they were in the Blue Lodge ... when I laid out my case, that there obviously was they ; " OH That! You need to talk to the Royal Arch guys." They gave me their address and I went there .... wow! Ever been in a royal arch temple ? Far out, the outer was a mock up Egyptian temple - columns, wall paintings, etc . The 'Red Lodge' is where the really cool stuff is. from there it goes out in all directions ... the 'not accepted' offshoots and even 'spurious' Lodges' , Magical Masons, their offshoots and evolutions into groups today. I think that is where you interest might lie ? But go through the first 3 degrees first, however you do it.

Aside from the 'fraternal requirements' , I feel the actual degree ceremonies hold value. Even if it is a study of them. But like anything, they need to be examined ( and IMO ideally experienced ) in context of the bigger picture. What I mean here is, in the bigger picture of an initiation system. If you, with your somewhat eclectic background, went to a religious ceremony , you would probably see things of value, similarity or opposition and not take the whole thing at face value, see it as the 'truth' and immediately convert. The first 3 degrees are the triangular basis of many systems and represent the birth-life-death process (even here in the ancient indigenous initiation system) . Ya gotta get your black belt first ... even if you already have one, going over the ground work (in another 'style' ) won't hurt ... it just gives you a head start.

Yes. By tradition, I think, a Mason would inform his Lodge that he knows someone who would make a worthwhile Mason. He would petition the members, seeking two sponsors, or perhaps they already know him, or will meet him and get to know him. If the potential member fulfills the criteria ( being 'free', 'of age' , and sometimes other things apply ) he is then invited to join. Theoretically, the sponsors are responsible for the member, his behavior and the example he sets of Freemasonry. Nowadays, with dwindling numbers it is more lax. As with many other aspects, local variations are great. They may have open nights, dinners, and even 'membership drives' ( once, Grand Lodge in Sydney had one, they had a booth at the entrance with forms and a life sized cut out of the G. M. - in full regalia - stepping forward to give a handshake. I asked the person manning the booth about sponsorship and he said he would be one and call someone else over to sign as well.

I think it has value ... and if you can extract it, great value. Its up to you ... and you have a head start due to your other studies and experiences. Entering it with the intention you have ( which is not base ; like a desire to impress, or gain business advantage ) you will seek the gold. And there is gold within. I have more to say on it, but I think I will bounce off some other posts. I do think that some modern mystery schools have more reverence , as they are more modern, and deal with more modern issues externally, and are often more up to date with a modern psychology. However, most are derived in someway from Freemasonry.

Sometimes it seems there is a 'boundary' ( between the world we naturally perceive, the very small {sub-atomic} and the very large {as in astro-physics} ) where the laws and models of physics are 'reversed' or modified (in relation to the world of our direct perceptions) . As above, so below - but 'reflected' ?
