Sometimes everything seems / is 'magical' .... or it could be an effect of 'old age' The deeper I try to get into the 'material', the 'real' , sciences ( regardless of through the lens of the telescope, microscope, anthropology ) the more magical 'things' seem. As these sciences do this, we just start bending the 'rules' a bit more, redefining the boundary of 'the real'. I have always questioned the answers a lot. Even as a kid at school, which gave me a certain reputation. Even in year 7 I can remember a significant conversation with my science teacher: " There are 3 states of matter ..... blah blah " My hand goes up . What about fire. What state of matter are the flames of a fire in ? Well, he tried, but each time I questioned his answer he got more entangled. I was just little kid trying to figure out this science stuff. He said he would get back to me. Apparently, as he said, he spent a lot of time on it and the only answer he could come up with was back .... they believed in 4 states of matter called the elements .... and so on. So of course I then went off looking for stuff like that. Nowadays, I wouldnt have a clue about how many 'states of matter' there are that they teach kids in school about . I do see similarities between some of the concepts I read about back then ( and still do) as the field of the sciences expands. Perhaps 'reality' and it's 'laws' only exist ' between the lines' or the 'very small and the very large' , an 'area of our perceptions' and what is outside those lines, or perhaps intrudes or intersects this space is the 'magical' world ? Then again, if you dissolve those 'lines of reason' the 'magical' world becomes 'real' and the 'real' world magical . ( I think my ' key is starting to wear out.)

I was going to ask , would not that have to do with one's understanding of 'Taoism' , but ...... carry on ED; re the thread topic.

The whole issue and subject here would depend on one's definition of magick ... and psychology. For starters ; " Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind and its functions, especially those affecting behaviour in a given context. " Is 'magick' a scientific study ? Even if it was, are going to postulate that all Magick is 'of the human mind and its functions'. To me this comes down to the bigger question ; is 'everything' of the human mind and its functions' ? IMO , no, they are an interface. They may, at times, create a reality, but that is not the source of all reality.

There is an old story in our club, some of the seniors, years back, went over to Okinawa to train . A senior teacher met them at the airport, was totally welcoming, gave them all a present - Including a new black belt and uniform (WTF?) with the 'new' club logo on it. He wanted to take them to a hotel and arrange a session for the next day, but they already had a hotel booked. They could not believe how welcoming and friendly he was. Then at the hotel later this guy turns up claiming to be a representative of the 'real guy'. Turns out the first guy was a fake and trying to nab a crew of OS instructors. .... some people will try anything. Then they became enmeshed in the battle over there for leadership of the style and a bunch of people claiming it was them ...

'It' ? .... What is quiet simple? How does the power of suggestion work on animals ... 'wild' animals that is ? How does it apply to 'natural magic' ? How does it apply when magic is used on/for another, when that other does not know about it ? Doesn't the 'power of suggestion' 'take two to tango' ? I know a guy that actually hid in a tree dressed as a Ninja. he was at a party and this drunk guy was being aggressive and starting to cause trouble, so he went home, got in his nija suit and his matt black boken ( ) came back climbed over the back fence and up a tree and waited. Eventually things got to a head, violent guy grabs a limp of wood to threaten the people asking him to leave and Mr Ninja jumps out the tree, cracks him across the offending wrist , and in a few other places, the guy is 'immobilised' and Ninja runs off across the yard (throwing in a somersault for good measure ) over the back fence and gone! Some of the concepts I like about traditional Zoroastrian food ethics is If an animal does make it to older age - you shouldnt kill and eat it, you you should give it a nice retirement. You shoudnt kill and eat a young animal either, especially a calf! And you should not use an animal for food that is supplying another product to you ( eg. ) wool, milk or eggs. In the development of their original culture ( a little jump in the early stages of agricultural settlements) they developed the 'vara' ( Avst. - enclosure ) style of household. This included animals. so the animals were seen as part of the household. In old Zoroastrian law, dogs and cows were seen as a type of citizen and had some legal rights. We had a couple of cows here for the first years I was here. I will tell you what would kick my emotions - I get home and my bed is missing ! My XGF about 4 years ago moved ( and boy did I do a lot of work connected to that! ) into a furnished smallish place. It had a bed and no where to put the one she had with a good silicon orthopaedic mattress so she gifted it to me as I have a bad back and hip. We eventually split up, she gets a new BF who becomes husband and one day he rings me up and " I am going to come around and pick up the bed .... " After a few incredulous and sarcastic comments like ' What bed ? ... do you mean my bed I sleep in ? ! ? Am I supposed to sleep on the floor now ? " Then he goes "Well, she is pregnant now and she has a bad back and needs that mattress, you think about what you are doing and get back to me on it . " I did .... oh boy, did I get back to him on it ! (probably my finest work of cynical critical sarcasm) ; His original plan was to come and just take 'their' bed while I wasn't home ...... yeah, that's a great idea, you come on around and try that when I am ' not ' home
