Hi . What type of martial arts ?
-
Of course, all of that ^ is about being 'powerful' ... for the individual, the group, the clan , the culture . Invaders and suppressors do not want that . Invaders often suppressed local culture and demanded conformity . Thats one of the reasons Cyrus was named 'The Great' ; they had a different policy - that if one allowed and actually helped people retain their culture and religion , they would be happier, productive and less rebellious .

In that case , by finding and reconnecting the people . re-establishing their cultural traditions and showing that they have worth in today's mainstream culture . Teaching the young the culture and instilling pride in them ( which can also include their system and practices of spirituality / religion, 'life purpose ' - rediscovering purpose for living ) Re introducing initiation systems . Finding ways of integrating into mainstream culture without loosing cultural identity and bringing traditional culture and language forward . And so on. With this group, a big step in recognition and feeling pride and worth in culture was through art . It was suggested they try the international art market. At first they where shy and lacked confidence .... people would be interested in our paintings ... internationally? It worked , some sold for 10s of 1000s of dollars , people went on paid trips from the desert to OS exhibits of their own work . This also enables them to earn their own income doing something they love . Another example is their elders and knowledge be funded by governments to teach 'cultural burning' principles to manage bush fires .

I dont know specifically about the Dutch situation, so cannot elaborate on that . But overall, its the same causes for everyone . There is a variety in intensity and acceleration due to other contributing factors eg . one of these factors is dispossession of 'home land ' coupled with ' their way of life, teachings and 'reality base' are no longer able to keep up and adapt with other changes - like from an intruding force or technology . That is why the devastation of Australian indigenous cultures happened so disastrously and virtually 'overnight' ; the technological gap was mind blowing for them due to their long term isolation - everything for them is connected to meaning through 'country' and birthplace , including specific individual ecological management responsibilities , they got hit hard on all fronts . So there is probably some other factor for the Dutch , in their culture , that was sensitive to these modern changes . If you take away a persons livelihood, land , sense of belonging , show them their belief system is irrelevant or wrong , crowd them together at a number and frequency they have never been used to - remove their reason and purpose for living .... they won't ( be living , for long ) . Some do make it , they become automatons, soulless , or manage to 'adapt' (with aberrations ) ... for a while , but then their societies become riddled with the indicators, including suicides ... seems 'normal ' to some - 'boiling frog ' syndrome . Then society becomes evil ; people start making money on the sufferers from the indicators

Thing is , I know what causes it . So its extra damn frustrating when people will not act to prevent it, through ignorance or evil . From my anthropological studies ; culture in crisis , regardless of where or when - certain stages manifest from trouble to 'self- genocide ' . First indication is the local system of relevant initiation breaks down . That means that people's instruction as to their purpose , place and fulfilment in life is missing . Then community starts breaking down into 'individual ego units' (these eventually break down to individuals themselves - 'battling it out' . Next , the 'teachings' themselves are neglected . The Elders, elderly and children are abused . Sacred sites are vandalised (or the public utilities are , things that all benefit from ) . Substance abuse ( not substance use , but abuse - from that culture's 'norm ' ). Self harm (again from the 'norm' eg, a culture may use scarification for various purposes or self injury in mourning and it is not considered ' self - harm ' ). ' Self mutilations' . Suicide rate climbs . End zone .... eg . one group of Aboriginals , only had a few members left , they began to cut of their ears , noses and eventually genitals , which makes it impossible to 'recover' and 're-breed'. We do know the remedies , eg , this above group was saved , the situation reversed , population went up now they are a proud and growing clan . But 'they' dont seem to think it applies to 'us' (modern 'western' civilisation ) .

Is enlightenment possible without the transmission from a lineage?
Nungali replied to idiot_stimpy's topic in General Discussion
If he does .... then we have TWO enlightened people on daobums -
There is also the cold water immersion layer thing ; you dive in to warmish water , hit the cold layer underneath and your lungs empty causing you to sink , especially at night in fresh water ( river) and especially if been drinking alcohol , add a few river weeds down there to get tangled in when you panic .... gone in minutes . It happens here , I had to warn the kids about it when I taught year 10 as it is one of causes of teenage deaths ( I did sessions on teenage suicide with them , also bought in a professional councilor for a talk ) " So kids , dont river swim at night , but if you do, dont drink, but if you do , dont dive in- walk in , but if you STILL do , someone else keep a close eye on them .... look after each other guys , too many of you are dying , let's look after each other and break the statistics . Full description of methods for the 4 stages of internal alchemy in book: Internal Alchemy for Everyone
Nungali replied to Yae's topic in Daoist Discussion
It seems to be playing out as usual . PS . I do not have anything to do with eastern alchemy . .... except read the arguments here about it with amusement and occasionally fire a salvo into the melee . -
" Just the burger and fries , thanks . "

Is enlightenment possible without the transmission from a lineage?
Nungali replied to idiot_stimpy's topic in General Discussion
That used to be a 'given' - as well as for a lineage , for an individual ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tutelary_deity and also ; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yidam ( Note : " ... realization of their own innate enlightened nature ... " . -

Indeed ! I felt to respond to this thread with that to show how it is not just martial artists being the bad guys against Neigong teachers . In my case I was first attracted to Martial arts because I am a xenophile and it seemed exotic and interesting . I am not interested in violence and fighting but have fascination in tactics , strategy , movement , psychology , technique . I get enjoyment from a rumble , maybe two or three against me , even with weapons . On this level, I feel a sense of accomplishment , If I can 'take' all their weapons , overpower their 'attacking intentions' and the result is - no one got hurt . I do admit that is a rare impetus for many martial artists though .

Without a 'how' offered ... this is, again , just a 'do it '.

Me : " What idiot left their boat untied and floating down the river like this ! "

You can learn to control what you thought was uncontrollable . We must understand our limits though , dont jump off a cliff and try to control gravity ( with no assistant technology ) . Then again a person's limits may be beyond what they have been led to believe .
-
So ..... just dont do that stuff . I think our OP seeks some techniques . Like how to deal with ' negative emotions , worries, fears, anger, ' etc . ... not just 'dont do it ' .

The second exercise is to let the mind wander, but within the subject matter, for example , if the object of concentration is a lit candle let the mind think whatever it wants about it , how it is made, what it is made from, what is the process that gives off its light , why does it give off heat , how can these things be used etc. If you go 'off track' eg . The candle does give off enough light to see around the room , but not enough to be able to do anything in the kitchen , like cooking . Maybe I should cook something now, I am pretty hungry , or maybe I should wait until dinner time , or I could go out and get a take-away . Either by will , or discipline keep the focus . By discipline I mean a 'shock' to the system - here there is no Abbot to smack you across the back with a cane , you have to do it yourself . A rubber band worn on the wrist can do it , instead of a mark on paper each time you 'break' concentration . The band can be 'pinged' on the inside of the wrist . Conversely , the mind should be rewarded for doing its job properly ( ie , searching and expanding through the field of acknowledge , seeking pathways and correlations within the field of focus ) . Then there is the next stage which is about 'fields' of knowledge , 'correlations' / 'signatures .... a type of 'cramming' stage . next comes 'filing systems ' for better cross reference and retrieval of information eg 'memory theater ' , 'method of loci' etc . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Giulio_Camillo https://www.australiangeographic.com.au/topics/history-culture/2016/09/how-oral-cultures-memorise-so-much-information/ https://www.monash.edu/medicine/news/latest/2021-articles/new-study-finds-ancient-australian-aboriginal-memory-tool-superior-to-memory-palace-learning-among-medical-students

I hope I made the distinction clear above ; for the wasted mental energy , the meditations for the wasted physical energy / movement , the martial arts stuff .
-
From a 'magical perspective ' on it , you have crossed the first hurdle ; realising how much 'random thought' and lack of mental focus is going on . here is an exercise to realise that - although you already have - Sit comfortably in a calm environment , set up to minimize distractions . Think of one object to visualise and concentrate on . Have a paper and pen at hand . Set a timer for a short amount of time . Think of the one object and each time you loose that , make a mark on the paper and go back to thinking only of that object . Continue until timer goes off . Total up the marks . The next exercise is how to use all that 'wasted energy' - the proclivity for the mind to 'wander ' ( seek and expand , actually ) within the object , or within the focus the mind holds . Success in this meditation can encompass both aspects of ' vajra like ' directed focus ( you like that one ? I just made it up ) while 'being open' to 'the all' that the mind seeks * . Its one way of accessing the 'internal genius' ( we all got one ) . * ie . 'Focus and spherical awareness . I also noticed the need to have both of these in martial arts, as a well as magick , for example especially in 'randori ( armed or unarmed and being attacked by multiple attackers who are armed ) .

... other pranks included ( just before they got expelled from their church .... which may have had something to do with that ? ) They would have to line up with others in turn and have the minister slam his palm into their forehead and blather stuff and then lie down , so ; - smear some super glue on your forehead just before he does that to you . - eat some green mushy peas and hold them in your cheeks , just before its your turn scoff a packet of 'wizz-fizz' sherbet powder, when he palms you start convulsing and squirt it out your nose .
-
Oh wow ... instant flashback ! Seriously ..... " Yes, he is behind the curtains . " This really happened . Two crazy pranksters shared a flat , they where friends of a girl I knew . All three where angry about their recently broken away from, evangelical Christian upbringing . The lads had been getting door knockers , they talked to them and agreed to try what they said 'To bring Jesus into the hearts and homes .' They came back as arranged the next week . Lad one had nice tea and bikkies set out and sat them down and said it came true and how good it was . The doorknockers where overjoyed , a convert ! "He is still here now . " ( You know where this going .... the large lounge room window curtains where drawn closed . ) " Yes, Jesus will always be with you ... in spirit . " " No, he is still here .... right here now , in person . " " ..... Errrmmmm ..... " He opens curtains and , of course , there is other lad ..... full gruesome crucifixion scene .

No . Is Mercury retrograde ... or something ? I didnt say 'you all' are supposed to not do or do anything . I said that I was not going to do that , then .

I know . I never said it should be thrown away . ...... I said it was 'sacrilicious' - deliciously sacred . I would not throw it away . I dont throw any food away - zero waste ; Meat and bones go to the many goannas that live in my space and the ravens and kookaburras . Possums get fruit ( but they get the good stuff ) and honey , grains and veg to other birds , Oh .... and bandicootes like Thai sweet chilli and coriander prawn shells to crunch up . The ravens polished off the gruesome remains of the stingray I ate . And the multitude of life in the big compost pile gets fed the rest , and that turns into more food .... for plants - the Great Wheel turns and the cycle continues . Oh yeah , and the goat got the last lot of left over prasadum that the visiting Hare Krishnas made for a feast here a while back , they kept some, we kept some, still a lot left ..... 'Thea' ( the goat ) loved it ! One of the HKs looked on approvingly ; " He might even get born reborn as a Devotee ! "
