Well for 'inscrutable Chinese with no emotions, outbursts crying or anger ' ... it must be 'stagnant Qi ' ! Even if they do suffer those things .... what we are talking about here - 'stagnant Qi ' Why ? Because Taoist texts told us so . -

He was great ! Another woman asked him if lamas are allowed to marry . he said ; " I am a Monk ! We have a vow of celibacy , no I am not allowed to get married . Besides .... I am 78 years old ! " The woman gives an embarrassed " Oh ..... yes. " Lama : ' But I do have a girl friend . " -
I have always approached 'things' from both aspects ; in my magical tradition and with my martial arts teacher they both advised to use the system as a framework, but after you develop and reach a point of understanding and good practice then you should develop your own system , more finely tuned for yourself . Both traditions encouraged 'cross training ' . ie. branching out and learning from other people and sources . The biggest problems in this regard I find are people who have done that to an extent and then set themselves up as a teacher and then teach people to try and be like them , instead of what their teacher taught ; a framework in which to develop yourself . They usually flame out as people eventually realize its about them ( the other ) and they are finding it hard to develop their own 'stuff' . One example is in visualizations , some types became pop magic for a while ; 'path workings' Eg . The better stuff might explain something like ; on this path your bravery and valor may be challenged and then leave it up to you what may arise . But in the series of pop magic books on path workings , Mr Expert declares things like ; ' On this path you will meet the mighty Demon Dongalot , if you do not have the magic green sword of valor , from the previous path , he will devour you . " - sounds more like ' Dungeons and Dragons ' . ( a better test for him might be ' on this path you will meet falling book sales and a court case about your plagiarism' ... see how how his 'green sword of valor feels about that one ! )

I have never felt tears or anger (or rudeness , or 'existential frustration' ) arise when I am 'meditating ' ... nor when I got drunk ... nor stoned .... or took acid .... However , they do occur in my everyday 'normal ' consciousness . -

For me, I see it two ways . But first , the usage of the term annoys me ; some people talk about 'mediation' as if it is A thing ... instead of many possible things . "let's meditate " okay sure , as we all know how to do it , you sit down , cross legged , close your eyes and try not to think . I witnessed a Lama visiting here that demonstrated it ... well, as only a good Lama can . We had gathered in a half open , hexagonal building by the river that was originally named ' The meditation sanctuary ' (by the early hippies here ), now called 'The Sanctuary ' . The talk is about to start , everyone is sitting looking at Lama , he starts : " This is a nice building , in a very good place , what do you use this building for ? " Some woman , who doesnt live here and who I have never seen before , pipes up , " Its the meditation sanctuary , for mediation . " Lama ; " Oh , You people meditate ? Why ? " Woman ( and others , including some from the local Buddhist centre , who have Lama as 'their' Lama ) ; " Yes . " (hesitating ) .... to become aware ." Lama ; " Good ! Let's meditate together . " So everyone shuffles themselves in to the required position , Lama does to , he looks at everyone and says " Close eyes . " They do , all of them, except me , I am watching . " time passes .... lama opens his eyes and checks everyone out , notices my eyes are not closed and mimes to me to close my eyes . I do . Then open them again . Lama has closed his eyes but also seems to be taking an immense lungful of air , I can see his stomach and chest expand . Then with a tremendous exhale and shout ; " Peh ! " Boy, did everyone jump .... nearly out their skins, they sat there startled, electrified looking around , wondering what happened . The lama started excitingly : " Thats it ! Now you have it, you have done it , you have become aware What? What where you all doing before , some of you where falling asleep and you act like you are sleeping , but now , you are aware ... no wait ! You are loosing it .. you are losing it , you are falling back asleep ,,, oh , you lost it . " What a great guy . What a great 'meditation' , although I suspect many wondered what happened , " I thought we where going to meditate . For me there are two basic types , one is passive and within that its pretty much all the same purpose ; its to still the mind , develop its power of concentration and focus and not have it wander all over the place . This isnt just for relaxation or to release stress or whatever you hope to be doing , its also preparation for 'active ' meditation . Passive mediation exercises can be seeing how long you can go for , thinking of nothing . If one cant do that , think only of 'clear blue sky' , if one cant do that , think only of a candle with flame burning , any intruding thought can be put into the flame and burn up . Now we are entering the area of passive mediation ; now still keep the candle going in your mind but allow it to do what it wants ; roam the extent of the conceivable universe , by ... other ideas can enter and be podered upon but they must be about the candle ; perhaps its a ability to give of light , how it was made , could it be improved but it must be about the candle . Thinking one could use the candle to eat dinner by , and , by the way what IS for dinner tonight ? I wish I had tofu , although it won;t be as good as that tofu I had back in 1987 in Singapore , ...... ooops , lost it . So really 'active meditation ' can be anything thought through or done consciously, focused , using full awareness and sense -ability and not having the mind DISTRACT but assist . especially a ritual , that can be a meditation, a ritual requires this mind frame to be present , one definition of sacred is 'to be devoted to and used for only one purpose ' . -
A few times . He tries to hide his character but the underlying issues are identical ... and he often plays master and talks down to 'Grasshopper' ... as that gets a good reaction . I am in for 20 bucks at 3 months .

Okay . To me its practical and , at least, a daily consideration . Especially when the pain is bad , it helps to be able to handle it , instead of rolling around moaning , people seem to get concerned when I do that . Sure, but I was talking about 'not want ' , what we do not want can be something we got by previous wanting ... or not at all, it might have been instilled in us , or we 'picked it up ' some other way , then, in the first place , you dint want it becasue you did not have it . But anyway .... Which 'we' are we talking about here ? The collective 'lower drives' that want to hold on to them, or the higher ones that can see that some of them need to be modified ? Emotions can be a tool to drive mindful actions. Exactly . Perhaps for some and me, at times . But when I am 'mindful' and operating in response mode (as opposed to reactive mode ) they can be a great tool . My anger might drive me beyond physical capability , when defending the innocent , old, young, infirm , etc . My empathic sorrow might help me to better council a friend in need . Best not to get the wires crossed on those . ... friend in need might be reactive and say the 'wrong thing' , then, for me, an anger reaction would be my emotions hindering me . I would say not, but I would say it would be bad to then not do something with it - anger can create ' readiness to do something about it " it which can cause a release of adrenaline into the system to fuel such 'extra physical needs ' if it isnt used up, it stagnates and changes into substances that can cause he body to react with stress symptoms - 15 mins on the bag ; IMO that depends on what happens next . It is ... if that is what we intended . I suppose one could do it to 'see what happens ' .... as long as one has a strategy to apply to 'anything that can happen ' . Hopefully , we had an intention that would satisfy that 'why ' . But maybe I am not reading YOUR intention here correctly ? Overhead the albatross hangs motionless upon the air And deep beneath the rolling waves in labyrinths of coral caves The echo of a distant time comes willowing across the sand And everything is green and submarine And no one showed us to the land And no one knows the wheres or whys But something stirs and something tries And starts to climb towards the light - Pink Floyd

Love this ! Thank you . A few years back I had a physical problem where I could not work for a while and could not get on sickness payments , so I had to be on unemployment payments . To 'get us back to work ' one had to do a course to receive payments - they where crap BS and I think designed to be so stupid and crappy and useless , people would run away and get a job instead - 'employment encouragement ' The system was ruthless in that it lumped all these different people together ; kids out of school , mid age range employed people wanting a job or avoiding one - people like me ... even an old ex- farmer , totally straight and old school that was due for an aged pension in 12 months .... give him leeway ? Nope ! Gonna force him through 6 months of this to get a "New Start", that was the name of the course , to flog his old body for one last half a year before he was allowed to retire . In the go round 'getting to know each other ' he quietly told his story , mentioning his wife died 2 years ago , and now he was managing things by himself . Now this is pretty much an 'alternative town ' and its full of such therapies, ideas and people ... many of them , especially the community I live on , seem absolutely plagued by 'past trauma ' they need to 'process' just about every thing and seem addicted to the actual process ... process . Unfortunately with out any results ... they keep doing the same stuff over and over again , but seem to love processing it . So in the course , this woman then pops up ( and gets supported by others ) and says to old farmer ; " Have you processed that , your wife's death and now being alone ? " Farmer : " Processed ? " " Yes , looked into it , felt it , realised its significance and how you should process your feelings, what you DO feel , 'witness' them , then release them ." Farmer : " Well, it was significant and it felt bad ... and lonely , at times I get sad ... but I just put that in the back of my mind and get on with it . " Woman ; " Oh no , you cant do that, you have to ... blah blah blah .... " - Farmer looking confused . I had to interrupt ; " Leave him alone ... he is old school . Thats not how they do things ... they DO just get on with , amidst all sorts of adversity ... people had families to raise , fields to plough , bridges and roads to construct , towns to build , with occasional forays off to war , and cow's to milk ... actually, probably right now , instead of being forced to sit in a room and having to hear advice and judgement from others who seem to not have a clue about the immense contribution they made , instead of running around constantly looking for the next new therapy to NOT cure themselves of their malaise or depression and ..... " - I looks around and every one is glaring at me ..... Oooops , " I mean ... thank you ... come again ."

Thanks but you answered my question with an answer from a different procedure .
-
Well, of course, I know it isnt the same procedure . One is called a lobotomy and the other a craniotomy . I worked in medical for 10 years remember ( and often in emergency and intensive care situations ) . I was offering it as one of the related "stranger things " . Dont worry ... if I am ever looking after you in hospital, in an emergency situation , and I have to assist the doctor to drill through the top of the skull , I shall remind him of your distinction . "Off the top of my head' ( ) I can think of a few 'beneficial effects ' , it could release any built up inter-cranial / spinal fluid pressure , which means , the spinal column could be released of excessive pressure . I am not sure what effects a pressurised spinal column / brain has , but I imagine the release of that would bring ...... release of pressure . Also it was used , supposedly ' to let the bad spirits ' out . (Ed ; I am talking about craniotomy here . ) .

If they are unwanted , one releases them . from the depths , then they 'rise up' to the conscious mind . if they are unwanted, one releases them and watches them continue to 'rise' , up and to whatever source one gives one's life experience to * . If they are wanted , we hold on to them and dont offer them up , we hold them within our consciousness and have them effect and interact with that . - but when things dont 'flow' they become 'stagnant ' . * To experience the fullness of ' life's experiences' both 'good ' or 'bad' are required by 'spirit'.

If you go on a long journey, into the wilderness , you better know how to properly drive your car , maintain and repair it . Study anthropology and psychology - a bit of history or comparative religion as well . Going from the human animal collectively to the individual , study mythology . Investigate various 'psychological mapping' cross cultural . Develop personal ones . Look at the ancients views on the makeup of the psyche - its components . Think how they relate to yourself . Investigate what 'made you ' , from ancestors through to the environments you live in and any 'past life' awareness or memories . Examine your inner and outer proclivities and determine which are natural , ' ingrained ' , part of your purpose , and which have been instilled or programmed into you . Learn how to read your own natal astrology chart . Look at your strengths and weaknesses , what influences your emotions and why . Get your internal elemental hierarchy straight and in order ... its going to be hard with out that . Become a psychonaut . Oooooo ! Look ! I just found out psychonautics has its own wiki site ! "documenting all aspects of psychonautic theory and practice (including meditation, lucid dreaming, psychoactive substance use, sensory deprivation, ritual, etc.) from an evidence-based, academic perspective " You've stumbled upon a door where your mind is the key. There are none who will lend you guidance; these trials are yours to conquer alone. Entering here will take more than mere logic and strategy, but the criteria are just as hidden as what they reveal. Find yourself, and you will find the very thing hidden behind this page. Beyond here is something like a utopia. This is a mirage. https://psychonautwiki.org/wiki/Main_Page

Like when I sent a text to my XGF .... that was 'apparently' wrong somehow ..... and she is Latino . HOOOOO - boy !
-
Dont you ever wish you could delete a text ... after you sent it ?

Hang on ....
-
She did edit it though deleting things straight after you write them just means you couldnt tink of something else to edit it into .

What's wrong with a good old fashioned treppaning ? It's been around since the neolithic . This version involves cutting lines into the skull with a 'sharp' rock , weakening the area until a bit can be knocked out I have assisted during one , a modern medical version, done with a small electric drill , as an emergency remedy for 'coning' (no, not pulling bongs , inter-cranial rise in pressure forcing brain stem down into top of spinal cord ) , in a hospital elevator . A few people advocate for some type of either or process ; Husband and wife ; " We did it together after years of trouble and unhappiness , we dont fight at all any more and are now both very happy . " Dont try this at home kids ! " In 1970, when she was 27, she had made a film of herself drilling a hole in her head. Some rock stars had viewed the film and become intrigued by trepanation (as I recall, I cannot find my notes from the meeting). Feilding had continued getting trepanned since 1970. The bone and skin gradually grow back, closing the hole, she said, so you need to get re-drilled now and then. She could not get a British physician to trepan her, but she had found a doctor in Egypt willing to do the job. I asked, as delicately as possible, if she had a hole in her head right now. She said she did. I asked if I could see her hole. She drew the hair back from her forehead. I spotted a small indentation in her skin, just under her hairline. " https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/cross-check/can-a-hole-in-your-head-get-you-high/ '' Trepanation has been performed by people interested in enhancing mental power and well-being since the early 1960s. The pioneers and main proponents of the procedure are described here. The phenomenon appeared in Europe after a Dutch former medical student published a psychoactive drug-friendly scroll suggesting trepanation as a form of permanently increasing cerebral blood volume and function. He trepanned himself in 1965. Three of his friends became enthusiasts. They also submitted themselves to the procedure and published films and books describing their experiences. Two of them coauthored papers, in collaboration with Russian researchers, and created institutions to promote discussion on trepanation. One of these institutions organized trips to Central and South America to get the operation done. Dozens of people nowadays look for trepanation as a method of spiritualization and increasing well-being and mental power. The phenomenon has an uncertain future, however, as the main proponents and supporters are aging. Do some gardening , try to relax, spend time with your kids . if this 'occult urge' remains after that , investigate it then . It may not be part of your 'True Will' ... considering what you been through . Give things time to settle out , if it is part of your real path , it will resurface in more stable times .
