The christmas/soltice celebration in your culture
Nungali replied to Sir Darius the Clairvoyent's topic in General Discussion
Well, not MY tradition but that of the culture I am surrounded by : The usual decorations, trees , presents and family gatherings . usually some type of abundant meal - either traditional or Aussie style (if its hot , this year seems like a cooler Xmas between some very hot weather ) , maybe cold chicken, ham, seafood salad . or if really hot , maybe the meal is picniced to the beach or some other place . The morning usually starts with present exchange in the home or within the extended family . Then there is the alcohol consumption , the family fights, the motor vehicle accidents ..... I better stop there . I used to work in a public hospital and at Christmas time , you would not believe what happens .... even over the Christmas Day 'feast' ! Me ? I live in a 'tourist area ' and although its great 85% of the time, at tourist times I stay home and hunker down away from it all . I also avoid the roads and especially the main ones - its down right dangerous out there this time of year . I would partake of the traditional Christmas feast, if a cooler day, as I dont mind that . However as a single person living alone, why bother . Last year I had a great one . I was driving back from a friends place on Xmas eve , past the golf course and near the club was a collection of vintage cars on display so I stopped to look . Then I got hungry and went into the club to check out their menu . Oh -O ! A huge banquet was underway , I picked the wrong day .... until the waiter returned with 2 huge full Christmas meals and deserts on a tray . The Chef started going off at him for counting there numbers wrong and 'wasting food ' , so I .... " I'll give you ten bucks for one ." he hesitated but then " Go on then ! " and then another old lone codger sitting on a beer ; " I will too ." - so we had Xmas lunch together . -

Regardless of what the 'Holy' Books say to their believers , still , history shows that regardless , at times , Muslim and Jew have been able to live closely together in relative harmony . Let's not forget what , historically , Christians have often done to Jews ... and what others who where not Muslim have done to Jews . Hitler didnt need a Koran to do what he plotted . https://www.historytoday.com/archive/path-peace-muslims-and-jews -
Thats it isnt it . We can get 'reactive' about things hurting and adversely effecting others ... 'others' meaning those that are not ourselves . I thought that was part of compassion and empathy ? Like I said , we are even loosing the reasons why rational and intelligent debate might matter . Somewhere along the road we mistook 'the right to have an opinion' with ' the right to have my opinion seen as right ' . Everyone is a winner , yay ! I got an award for the guy that wanted to try the hardest ( but didnt )

Yes ... they ^ should have had Santa hats on .

I got a few sentences into your post ... and immediately saw the problem as it can / has been played out and I thought about what you mentioned in your last sentence , before I got to it . There is this 'thing' happening to 'certain consciousnesses ' in this world, at the moment . The 'good old fashioned obvious' logical rational mind that understands how debate NEEDS TO work ... and knowing the reason WHY it needs to work (ie. including any benefits that should come from it ), although perhaps always in the minority ( ? ) seems to be loosing ground . Other things are reported to be gaining ground though ; fascist youth culture , irrational and disconnected consciousness ( but dont worry about that as we will soon hand consciousness over to AI, thus relieving us of the responsibility ) , depersonalised communications ( no need to read facial expressions as we now have emoticons ) no need to feel / be in the other's energy field because we will have ..... Ummmmm , no, thats okay , we will still be in each others energy fields

Do we have volcanic issues in our future?
Nungali replied to Sanity Check's topic in General Discussion
https://theconversation.com/volcanic-eruption-lights-up-iceland-after-weeks-of-earthquake-warnings-a-geologist-explains-whats-happening-220193 The length of the crack in the volcano is about 3.5km and the lava was flowing at a rate of around 100 to 200 cubic metres per second after the initial eruption. " Stunning footage has shown 100m high lava waves lap up out of an Icelandic ridge following the eruption of a volcano on the island." Supposedly 'this one' will not eject coarse particles that might shut down air traffic - as in 2010 . However , the capitol might be threatened by toxic gasses . Not much they can do to stop that . Mask up . -
yeah ... right . Its a LOT easier to do when you have cocaine ! My other complaint is ... what happened to all the jokes ! Have we told them all now its been going on so long ? What's wrong with making up new jokes ?

I think thats back in the realm of 'historical mythology ' . The whole Abraham story , and a whole lot of other stuff was a back story , borrowed from a variety of myths and stories from other cultures , including Babylon and later the Persian Empire (under the influence of Zoroastrianism ) and used as a 'history' to justify a political movement that wanted to claim certain ' unities and expulsions' amongst some tribes ... and a justification of righteousness in 'land invasion' and slaughter of the original occupants . The first part of that ( before the .... ) I had explained to me by a Rabbi , he had no problem saying it was a made up story to cement a mythical history . A lot of stuff in there is 'kinda shitty' ; a bunch of guys knocks on your door in the middle of the night and want to see your visitors ? nah, throw your daughters out to them for a drunken rape fest ... or your wife ... or maybe she was 'only' a concubine ? out to them ... and find her dead on the doorstep in the morning ... then you order her to 'get up woman' ... but she cant, because she is dead . An inspiring book indeed ! -
Thats nice ... Bindi's point still stands though . And I am wondering why you think Jadespear can provide, seriously, what you seek ? There is thing called 'posting history ' , observation of that can come in handy at times . I can do a lot better ..... you send me a $50 bill and I will magically transform it into $100 bill .... and send it back to you .

and where did that reading lead you to ?
-
Now now old3bob .... at least 'new age stuff' allows people with no experience, study or tradition to become 'enlightened' about their own opinion - as they just 'know' stuff .... amazing !
-
Well, it started as a hamburger ......

Oh really ?

Okay .... you asked for this : Me ; " How dare you ! How dare you judge me and infer that my highly personal bodily functions have somehow interfered with my intelligent observation and my reaction to things .... that makes me sooo mad , it boils my blood ! " Maddie ; ''Okay but do you have PMS ? " Me; " Well ...... yes . But that has nothing to do with it ! "

' You tube ' From 'Bondi Hipsters' Father ; " Look son , I can put you up for a while, but this keeps happening . Where are you going, what are you doing ? I'll tell you what , you can stay here and go to university - study something , learn something anything you want , you choose , and I will pay for it . Find yourself a career , a direction something. I will support you until you get on your feet ." Son ; " That's the problem with your old generation , you just dont understand . Why would anyone want to go to University nowadays when you can just learn whatever you want from watching youtubes ? " -

The answer to the question is simple and obvious and well attested in history . Its the same answer across the board really, for all types of situations . We have times in history when healthy happy and advanced societies containing Jews and Muslims flourished . And of course, that all changed due to the uprising or fascist fundamentalists who used religious variations to cause disruption and gain power and repression over the masses . But aside from what Daniel said above : " In order to deconstruct the hatred muslims have for jews it takes a long time and many words, " aside from that being 'one sided' (ie not mentioning the hatred some Jews have for Muslims ) , some historical events stand out ... there where certain events that the JEWS did right at the beginning ; " The Constitution of Medina, written shortly after hijra, addressed some points regarding the civil and religious situation for the Jewish communities living within the city from an Islamic perspective. For example, the constitution stated that the Jews "will profess their religion, and the Muslims theirs", and they "shall be responsible for their expenditure, and the Muslims for theirs". After the Battle of Badr, the Jewish tribe of Banu Qaynuqa breached treaties and agreements with Muhammad. Muhammad regarded this as casus belli and besieged the Banu Qaynuqa. Upon surrender the tribe was expelled.[6] The following year saw the expulsion of the second tribe, the Banu Nadir, accused of planning to kill the prophet Muhammad. The third major Jewish tribe in Medina, Banu Qurayza was eliminated after betraying the Muslims during the Battle of the Trench. However, there were many Jewish communities in Medina who continued to live in Medina peacefully after these events such as Banu Awf, Banu Harith, Banu Jusham Banu Alfageer, Banu Najjar, Banu Sa'ida, and Banu Shutayba. but then " In year 20 of the Muslim era, or the year 641 CE, Muhammad's successor the Caliph Umar decreed that Jews and Christians should be removed from all but the southern and eastern fringes of Arabia—a decree based on the uttering of the Prophet: "Let there not be two religions in Arabia". The two populations in question were the Jews of the Khaybar oasis in the north and the Christians of Najran.[5][9] Only the Red Sea port of Jeddah was permitted as a "religious quarantine area" and continued to have a small complement of Jewish merchants " During the Middle Ages, Jewish people under Muslim rule experienced tolerance and integration.[10]: 55  Some historians refer to this time period as the "Golden Age" for the Jews, as more opportunities became available to them.[10] In the context of day-to-day life, Abdel Fattah Ashour, a professor of medieval history at Cairo University, states that Jewish people found solace under Islamic rule during the Middle Ages.[10]: 56  The Muslim rule at times didn't fully enforce the Pact of Umar and the traditional Dhimmi status of Jews; i.e., the Jews sometimes, as in eleventh-century Granada, were not second-class citizens. Author Merlin Swartz referred to this time period as a new era for the Jews, stating that the attitude of tolerance led to Jewish integration into Arab-Islamic society.[10]: 56  Social integration allowed Jews to make great advances in new fields, including mathematics, astronomy, philosophy, chemistry and philology,[11] with some even gaining political power under Islamic rule. " Leon Poliakov writes that in the early ages of Islam, Jews enjoyed great privileges, and their communities prospered. No laws or social barriers restricted their commercial activities, and exclusive trade and craft guilds like those in Europe did not exist. Jews who moved to Muslim lands found themselves free to engage in any profession, resulting in less stigma than in Europe where such restrictions were still in force.[10]: 58  This, coupled with more intense Christian persecution, encouraged many Jews to migrate to areas newly conquered by Muslims and establish communities there. -

I read 'Strange Angel' but have not seen the tv version . I know of Jack through occult research ; he was an OTO Lodge Master for some time and got 'into trouble' of Crowley for ...... wait for it ...... being involved with unsavory characters . Ie. L.Ron Hubbard . Apparently l. Ron nicked off with Parson's wife, their joint bank account a stash of OTO 'stuff' and the boat . A 'magical myth' says Jack found out at the last minute , rushed down to the marina and 'called up a storm' which drove the boat back to shore and Hubbard was arrested . But the case showed that Jack rushed down to the marina ..... and called the coast guard , and they drove them back to shore . -
