... Yes the concept of sin is fascinating, and the Fall and so on. There are parallels across the faiths. I accepted of my own wretchedness, yes. I certainly did that. I was a humble man. Otherwise the Angel of the Lord would not have come down unto me. I'm enjoying being on this forum far too much. But as long as people keep giving me likes.. I likes me them likes.. Damn. I'm gonna have to really go meditate on this now. Sin. Hmm. Yeah. ...

World's Ten Most Mysterious Pictures Ever Taken
Captain Mar-Vell replied to SonOfTheGods's topic in The Rabbit Hole
... So-called pre history becomes more interesting all the time. I used to habitually make pyramids out of sand, quite large ones, on the beach on family holidays. I would be quite painstaking about it. Even when I was doing it I used to think of Richard Dreyfuss and mashed potatoes. ... -

... Oh don't mind me. Does anyone think that pic of pyramids on the moon is genuine? The Voynich Manuscript I always thought had the look of the expression of the direct knowledge transmission of the adept. It reminds me of the works of Blake or even Jung. And a four hundred million year old hammer? You gotta be kiddin' me. ... -

... And it also strangely recalled the wrathful dharma protector figure. Does anyone remember the comic book? That one hit me straight between the eyes. But I was particularly choked up over the sad tale of Tulku Gyeltsen. I shouldn't say any more. Lesson #1 Never forget to breathe! Lesson #2 Learning to breathe is learning to calm down. ... -

... Just a few thoughts, I hope they are helpful. Love or Loving-kindness (metta) - Helps quieten the mind, brings about sensitivity and receptivity. Compassion (karuna) - The means of expanding awareness into the universal spheres. Sympathetic Joy (mudita) - The life of the organism. Equanimity (upekkha) - The key to everything! Balance! ... -

... To clarify, the only thing I was calling "silly" was noticing that Solway broke down to Sol Way. But to be honest, I don't really think even that was silly. Come on. Surely you know be better than that already. Oh, and sincere thanks Nungali! You da best man! ... -
How to bring a family member to self-reflect?
Captain Mar-Vell replied to 4bsolute's topic in General Discussion
... You can't, can you? It seems to me you can't "bring" anyone to self reflect. I suppose what I mean is, that it seems to me you can't "make" any other person self reflect. It's difficult enough getting oneself to self-reflect! ... -

... I won't say any more but I was thinking in terms of being an "experiencer," not a scientific or academic reseacher of any kind. It's not nice even being in a mental ward of a modern hospital. Let's just leave it at that, shall we? We can agree to sufficient disclosure. ...

Why so much emphasis on dukkha?
Captain Mar-Vell replied to Simple_Jack's topic in Buddhist Discussion
... I like the way you have used the words "stress" and "stressful." High anxiety! It is certainly true that dukkha is central to buddhist philosophy. Imagine the trauma of having been surrounded only by seemingly ever lasting youth and beauty and health and wealth and serenity and abundance for all one's life.. and then suddenly finding oneself face to face with all the age, decay, death, disease, pain and misery, conflict and violence, one might see in the low quarters of any large city. It would be quite a shock to the system. Thank you for your contributions Simple_Jack. I hope it might be helpful to quote here some part of the text linked to in the op; ... -

... The world is worse than ever. They are bombing countries back to the stonehenge. We can't have religious fundamentalists (or indeed greed and ignorance in the human heart) wielding such power in a world of nuclear weapons. It's long past midnight. Why are we still here? Hmmm? ... -

... There is, on the other hand, the insidious work done by the Money Power, rooted in greed and ignorance, lying hidden behind all major instutions, not just the religious ones. Now, if anyone wants to talk about the Church of England or The Vatican.... Then they probably shouldn't! The dancing naked in the moonlight, on the other hand, sounds an absolute hoot! Who's up for that? And we need a pagan subforum! Herne the Hunter! ... -
Devious call for adding Christianity as a subforum
Captain Mar-Vell replied to thelerner's topic in Forum and Tech Support
... Thank you thelerner. You can't really say religion and enlightenment are polar opposites. The exoteric schools of religion lead to the esoteric. The esoteric seeks to point the way to enlightenment. And I would have thought many Tarot readers believe they are doing "The Good Lord's" work, too. I would, were I ever to get round to ordering a selection of decks from ebay. To be honest, I should make my own. ... -

... I closely studied the Dhammapada for many years. For several years I considered myself Theravadan Buddhist. Of course, I studied many other schools of Buddhism later. I could go to wiki to refresh my memory on the specifics. I think I have a fair feeling for the language and terminology. But I don't suppose I could teach it formally. Perhaps I could. But right now I prefer to go back to basics. Meditation is meditation. Virtue is virtue. Clarity is clarity. ... -

... I was thinkin' the other day about the name of the place the silver spaceman apparition appeared. Sol Way. Silly, I know. I had another "dream" when I was still very young but a little older. I went down through some strange tunnel/elevator deep below the earth. In my childhood innocence I later described it as "so deep it was down below hell!" There I met a Great Lord with a Golden Winged Helmet looking quite like the one worn by the golden age Flash. Or a bit like the one worn by that oh gosh that wrathful dharma protector yeah. This King or Lord or Chieftain or so I perceived him told me much. I remembered none of what he told me. It was like and yet unlike a dream. Later in my early teens I could lucid dream. I could create reality in the dream, and wake at will. I had this ability for about a year or so. I'm givin' a lot away today! ... -
