I respectfully disagree and Iāll share why. While teaching my daughter to say please and Thankyou and sorry, I realised itās more important that she feels it from the inside and speaks from there rather than the external pressure of a rule. The more I explained it to her the more I began to realise how Kind and Respectful manners really are DOING DEEPER WORKS (of course we know how helpful they are to diffuse escalating problems ie anger) but itās more than than. itās demonstrating an understanding that the other person has value, and not a lesser being or a servant. Take āpleaseā for example, it gives back the power to to the server and acknowledgement that they have a choice in serving, leading to confidence and self esteem in the server being built, and them not being robbed of it. This can help steer a child away from some pretty negative tropes too, like manipulation haughtiness and entitlement. The word please also empowers the person you are asking to do the deed for you. It doesnāt undermine their autonomy and treat them as a thing merely completing your wish. I'm grateful my parents instilled manners. They didnāt describe the processes quite the same way as I do with my daughter but I get it now. And Iām glad I donāt get a buzz out of intimidating others and pushing them around, it was never able to take hold in my nature in those important developmental years. of course there are excesses exceptions to the rules and Iām sure examples of this backfiring in peoples lives, but arenāt manners generally healthy and good? When she was 5 or 6 we would do little role play. So I would act out the scenario as if I were her and she was offering me something. I would do it once, with no please, no connecting tone and no eye contact. then I would play the role play again , I would wait, use eye contact, use please and Thankyou, and then Iād simply ask her, which one made you feel best, in your nerves of course she always said second oneā¦ she felt connected, part of team and loved. I also tell her smile and the word smiles with you, she knows now when she is on the shop or paying the bus driver, she uses her manners and eye contact, she gets a smile, and then she always smiles back. itās important to us, May the best in me meet the best in you @manitou And compliments how a long way too, even if on the surface they seem superficial and fake, they help distract others of their suffering if only for a moment, Buddhas blessings š IMHO this thread rocks šŖØ šŖØ šŖØ šŖØ

Yi Jin Jing/ Tendon-Muscle Strengthening Exercises
Thrice Daily replied to Thrice Daily's topic in Daoist Discussion
I hear what you are saying about every day. Iāll have one or two days off per week. Building incrementally though so I only add around 5% extra volume and intensity each week. Started relatively low at 12 reps each this time. I used to just blast out 24 or 36 reps of each of the 12 exercisesā¦ It does use Chi, but there is a marked difference in strength and vigour each day doing the sets, and martial arts training is way easier And Strongerā¦ Planning to give this a watch when there is the time for it; Might be worth a watch / listen -
Yi Jin Jing/ Tendon-Muscle Strengthening Exercises
Thrice Daily replied to Thrice Daily's topic in Daoist Discussion
Here is an article looking into 48 variations of the Yi Jin Jing routines. I donāt think Iāve seen a routine that looks the same from demo to demo. They tend to look wildly different to one another. Commonly though they tend to have 12 exercises per routineā¦ Example, This one many movements are held in static poses. There are illustrations shown in the video too. This one a little more dynamic and totally different; Again another, totally different flow, totally different names for movements. Every demo wildly different. Probably based on same original drawings originally, perhaps more like the first video. Iām guessing though, that itās more of a basis to create and grow systems from that will change tendon health and strength. -
Well this is excellent advice if anyone reads and truly implements it.

Did you ever visit Turkey @Nungali Iād be interested to know what you think of Ephesus. Same with you @Daniel , @Cobie, @Sir Darius the Clairvoyent and anyone else that feels like chiming in. I went in year 2000 and it was mind blowing. When you can see ruins and touch ruins there is a more unarguable legitimacy. The Goddess Nike Stone, The doorway block of Medusa, the Amphitheatre and place they kept the Lions š¦ š¦ before Game time. I'm more interested generally in what you guys think of the place, if there are any ties to Judaism though that are noteworthy for the thread that would be cool too. -

The Construction of Judaism
Thrice Daily replied to Nungali's topic in Abrahamic Religions Discussion
Yeah, at first I looked at the map and the massive detour that was apparently taken and figured the Egyptians would have thought them so completely nuts for taking that route back to Isreal they simply left them alone, or otherwise didnāt look in that direction at all as it was just too outrageous to think they would head out in that direction. Mental story. Islam isnāt much different with their whole idea of Medina being ancient and all the prophets being buried there. Totally outrageous too, no water there or camel stops whatsoever. So how exactly did the Jews arrive in Isreal ?thats what I wanna frickin know, and where had they actually travelled from !!!! -

My take on Chinese classical martial-arts
Thrice Daily replied to galen_burnett's topic in The Rabbit Hole
This is simply the best thread Iāve ever read. Oh boy, itās put some Color in my cheeks. That sounds like one strange night @Lois I donāt know what Iād have found more surprising, the snapped knife or the punch in the face. What a remarkable moment. Crikey. As far as Jewish Ninjas are concerned Iād love to know more, if you have any stories you could share to further bolster your claimsā¦?? Jokes aside I have seen some feats of strength you are talking about from over old mother Russia way. There is a chap now who can bend horse shoes and rip a full can of coke tearing the top clean off with his fingers. He did a few things like this. The words strongest man in the West tried to copy these skills and didnāt even come close. Here is some of it; -
Wing Chun - FMA - Chen Tai Chi [other classes and styles tasted but not as noteworthy and currently not featuring in life story] Tendon Changing practice makes a huge difference day to day to martial training as does meditation. Training technical points in trapping range. Iām forever looking at the possibilities as a partially completed puzzle. Almost everyday breaking apart sequences and running them back and forth even for a brief moment while the kettle is on. Chipping away, sometimes practice feels dry, then a breakthrough, and fresh ways to train emerge. Footwork forever refining. As said earlier all the seeds for hands are in Wing Chun Sil lim Tao, I let it flower in a flowing form, from small closed and compact, to large open and flowing. Still same seeds are there, only they look and feel so so different. This is some of my story. Daily practice and respect of teachers in past stays with me, ever present in movements. I was lucky to train briefly with two Grandmasters of Ip Man Wing Chun. The sticks of fma offer an extension into the beauty of form and such a wondrous dimension of practice emerges, to flow with music, itās tribal at times and highly absorbing, multi directional and secret. My teacher only taught me basics, but I witnessed something in our meetings that telegraphed a pure understanding, one Iām still filtering through. And every know and again a new element is unpacked and springs into the practice. Love adoration and respect, speaks through time and lineage, I sincerely believe in this powerā¦ Sometimes I miss training with others, but there is something else about solo training, itās like a yoga, that you can never really get a true deep practice in a class environment, too many distraction from a truly deep and complete union. [but this is state of being and of course a flawed outlook in terms of effectiveness in combat, which is not why I train tbf, if I did I would certainly be training wrestling instead] I train mostly in secret and shadow box like this daily in any pockets of time I can find. This is my story, it is a passion and a love. But I refuse to use this striking art to damage , only change footwork and smile with a softness. The place I live is full of wrestlers and they would tie me in knots , š But I do love the romance of long and mid range striking, trapping. Fighting is not martial arts in my story. I was only beaten badly once, and that was all it took for me to never again let my ego in the hot seat. It was bad, real bad, one or two more punches I think that would have been me finished. Since then God knows what has kept me safe. My Wing Chun never led me to violence, only away from it. Iām lucky I guess, circumstances have been very fair to me even in times of peril. Whatever comes stays, Iāve been blessed with a good temperament and project this into the world, I live in a good scenario moment to moment and am fast to be thankful, directly and often. there is certainly a sports and exercise element to the training, itās great to stretch and get some cardio, itās more than that though, itās deeply connecting to ancestral truths, awarenesses and humble connecting to the universe and all it has on offer. It is art produced by the body and a love affair of mine for life, in any available moment even a simple movement or two, or three , or fourā¦. Train train train, you are only as good as your last session!!! Keep the magic alive! train train train! Honourable mention White Crane, it was a good crowd, nice format, decent teacher . Every time class finished I went to Wetherspoons pub across the road for a huge all day brunch and made notes on my phone from the class. I learned a heap tbf. Itās a shame I lost that phone. The insights and subsequent notes were unique.

The Construction of Judaism
Thrice Daily replied to Nungali's topic in Abrahamic Religions Discussion
Thanks. So my question would then be, what historical certainty of Jews is the earliest. they were supposed to have stopped at a city on route back to the promised land right, they returned to Isreal no? Weāre there battles? Any of that documented. I heard that Moses was supposed to have died on route but I guess if thatās not true at all, ignore itā¦ What is the first legit bit about the Jews THAT IS TRUE , if the whole Moses thing was a massive con job? -

The Construction of Judaism

Hopefully this question Iām not too controversial. In the 40 years the Jews were taking that huge detour to get home, what exactly were they eating along the way. it just sprung to mind in the moment, do you know? It was pretty Barron land wasnāt it? -
Why bother with morality and ethics?
Thrice Daily replied to Sir Darius the Clairvoyent's topic in General Discussion
Emotional intelligence lends a hand to actual perceived iq and cognitive abilities as well I think -
Really, you feel it is the best book out of 1000. That is quite a statement. What do you think made the book so supreme over the others? Do you think it could be because it really clicked with you and your learning style more than the efficacy of the book? What is the story behind the book, who created it, what was his life and training like? I liked Chen Pan Ling as he was an engineer. And I think he brought much of this understanding to the TaiChi that is what I believed and at the time I noticed very much that fit this narrative. Very intricate, very respectful of mother line, not breaking or collapsing structure and showing vulnerability.
