Why does everyone think it's yang qi being emitted? It really isn't, if only yang would burn, not feel electric.
-
100% yes, it's not some buzzing or faint tingling, it literally bends your arm out of shape, all the muscles contract. It feels like you are touching an electric fence, makes you gasp, almost hurts and if the person emitting is pushing hard it does hurt, hurts a lot. Despite what Dwai says, when you emit qi, especially with physical contact emission, you feel the electricity in your own body too, your own muscles contract with the force, not just the person you are emitting into feels it.

Actually, i've been in china many many years. I have met countless schools, traditions, masters. They all talk a big talk, all speak of their developments, yet once they see experience the qi developed by taoist methods, they very quickly are eager to learn and stop talking about their own systems qi. I say taoist, but I have also met many taoist masters whose lineage no longer has be ability to develop the dantians, they lost the knowledge somewhere down the line. Kept the vocabulary though, just have none of the abilities that are meant to come. Don't get me wrong, taiji develops many things, it's wonderful, but it doesn't develop neidan. If it did, powerful electric qi would just be normal for you. It's such a powerful tool to help new tudis develop, not using it when you can is something that would not happen.

Have a friend who does authentic Yang style taiji in china with the direct line of yang style, been doing it 10 years. He is as strong as an ox, can throw anyone across a room. He has no dantian development to speak of in terms of Neidan though. First time he felt qi emitted he kinda needed a time out, completely blew his mind, more so to have a good friend be the one emitting the qi and not some random master. What taji does and what real dantian development is are not the same thing. He also believed it was the same, can't be any different, then he saw and felt for himself. Don't get me wrong, his teacher is incredible and can do many things that I can't explain, but he doesn't have a dantian full of qi. Just not the same thing.

Taiji doesn't really develop the dantian in the neidan sense. Your "dantian" and "dantian development" won't ever be in line with Taoist methods, neither will your vocabulary. Be worth while mentioning before answering as Taiji dantian definitions and practices are completely different. Not really developing qi, but your definition of Jin, which is muscular elasticity.

You do taiji i guess.

I have to disagree with this as well but curious how this works? Would you mind explaining?

Never said it was the first sign, but definitely something you can do if you claim to have a developed lower dantian. If you can't then you are still developing it, or think you are. I don't even know how to respond to you. Do you thing buddy, but maybe give less advise and definitely don't make blanket statements that any Taoist system would disagree with. Based on what you say I find it hard to believe but ok. You are allowed to take over this thread and redefine terms to your hearts content. I don't think you will find many who agree with you though, will wait and see how others feel but this is my gut feeling.

Recently actually had an influx of people wanting to learn at a Temple. A big group of foreigners. One guy spoke chinese really well. Over the course of 4 weeks was talking about how amazing his system is, how amazing his shifu is and would not shut up about it. They were there learning basic qigong practices, nothing advanced, advanced practices won't be taught to anyone who hasn't baishi'd and pledged their loyalty to the school. None of the masters at the temple said much, just that the practice they are learning is good for health and over time will strengthen the lungs. So, this guy kept on talking about how superior his master is, how superior his practice is. Kind of makes you wonder why he came in the first place. Either way, after a bout 4 weeks he was feeling under the weather, long term health issues that sometimes show symptoms. He asked if they could help. The grandmaster then said sure, ofcourse I can help and gave herbs, acupunture and projected qi into his channels. After treatment he immediately dropped to the floor, bowed and begged to be accepted as a student. From then on he wouldn't shut up about being allowed to become a tudi and learn their methods. How incredible the qi is and how it's like nothing he has ever experienced before. Now all of a sudden his one time super advanced master seemed like a beginner compared to them. He was ready to forsake his previous teacher, and dedicate his life to this practice. People always talk about how advanced their teacher or system is until they meet someone who has real development. Then they know, then they understand. So, people don't just walk around showing off their qi, they use it to help others. It's another tool to help and treat patients, not something to show off, but something that can be shown anytime if asked politely. How many people in the west with their active dantians can do the same? We need to get over this mindset that electric qi is this super magical thing. It really isn't. It's just what you can do, and everyone can do, who has activated their dantian, filled it and opened their channels enough. It's a byproduct of correct cultivation when you follow the schools who focus on dantian development. if you have qi, you can use intent to guide it, if you have a lot, it feels really strong. If it doesn't feel really strong, then you don't have much. It's a hard truth to accept, but not accepting it will result in years and years of practice without any results.

The contradiction has been wonderfully pointed out by Dwai. He knows many people who have a filled, activated lower dantian but they aren't walking talking bug zappers. Yeah sure, they have a full dantian, they have open channels. Strangely cannot emit qi, hmmmm, everyone I know who has a dantian and open channels can emit qi. Not just one lineage either, but know at least 5 different lineages (all in china, hidden and not really public) who have the correct methods to develop the dantian. For all of them, being able to emit qi, strong electrical current, is the min requirement to show your dantian is full and channels are sufficiently open. I know a good 30-40 different masters, advanced students who can all emit qi, different lineages, different methods, yet they all have one thing in common. They can all demonstrate that their dantians are full, their channels are open. Despite using different methods, they all follow the same procedure to get this accomplished. This procedure is not known in the west but oh boy, these people, these "masters" all have active full dantians. Saying stuff means nothing. I know plently of well known authors/qigong "masters" who all teach the methods to activate the dantian, to open the channels, yet none of them have accomplished this themselves. They openly say their dantian is active, but cannot emit qi, really? Thinking electric qi is some siddhi that you develop from secret methods is silly. Qi is electric in nature, when you have a lot of it, it's feels like an electrical current. If you don't have much qi, then it will never feel electric. Don't let people tell you how advanced they are. People are more often than not deluded. This statement, this is why no one in the west makes progress. Having an activated dantian, open channels, means when you emit qi, it's super strong. If it's not super strong, then you know fewer than you think. The process is really simple, yet really complicated. If you don't know what is supposed to happen when a dantian is truly active and channels are open, then you can easily fool yourself into thinking that you have done it. When you meet and feel qi from someone who has developed their dantian to the required level for the first time, things become more clear. But sure, you know better, people always know better. You know plenty of people, they are all super advanced, but cannot even emit qi. Boggles the mind really.

There is inherently a problem with asking someone who has never been to space what it's like to be in space. Too many people don't understand what a dantian is never mind how to cultivate it. Unfortunately they think they do. There are hundreds of books explaining what the dantian is and what it feels like, yet none of the authors can emit qi, none of them have the required development to even know they have made any progress. The dantian does not exist in the beginning, it's merely a concept, a space ready to be cultivated. It only becomes a dantian when a substantial amount of qi is in the area. The presence of qi there, is what results in you being able to call it a dantian. How does this feel? Do you development some knot in the area, some hard round object? No you don't, you become aware of the dantian in the same way you are aware of your hand. It's not some magical ah ha moment where you feel it strongly, if you do, it's because of blockage in the area. It takes years of daily, correct practice along with the assistance of a shifu (who can actually emit qi, heat, electrical current ect) to develop the dantian though. The truth is, if your teacher cannot emit qi as described, then they most like don't have a dantian and can never help you to cultivate one. Even if by some miracle they actually have a dantian and substantial amounts qi, their channels aren't open enough to emit it, then they also cannot help you to achieve it. You need help from a teacher, otherwise just filling the dantian will take decades, and this is if you have the correct practice and sequence. Again, if your teacher can't emit qi, they most likely don't know the right sequence to teach you. Then trying to get your channels open enough for you to even use your qi to help others, will take more decades of hard work, if you have the correct practices. Not saying all the above to be a downer, just explaining how things actually work. I took a long break from here because too many people believe the wrong things yet think, because they are the majority, they are right. Think about it, if all the books were right, you just have a dantian, can easily cultivate qi, then tons of people would be able to emit qi as this strong electrical current. Only a handful of westerners can though, but what they say contradicts what all the books say. And get ganged up on and eventually stop trying to help. Someone just saying they have a developed lower dantian, who cannot even show you their qi ability, isn't really guna be able to help you. Anyone can say anything really, I can call myself a magical giant unicorn and say I have magical abilities, but I can't show you, because that would be giving into the ego. You know this line right? It's ego to talk about your "abilities" and not show it. It's just a bluff and lotsa fluff. Oh i can do this, i could do this if i wanted to, I can do all kinds of things, i can heal any disease, I can do that. Yeah sure, strange how they only talk and never do. So, how do you locate the dantian? You know where it should be because of the descriptions in the books (few inches below the navel, not as deep as most books say though), so you do your practice and breathe into it and become aware of it, even if this is only by knowing the location it's meant to be. Do this every day for 5 years and then you might have qi starting to cultivate in the area, then you can say you have a dantian. Then carry on further cultivating qi, run qi into the channels slowly slowly enlarging them, then after another 20-50 years of daily practice, you might have a dantian that is brimming with qi. If you are lucky then your channels will be open enough (if you knew the correct practices) and can emit qi, like this powerful electrical current. Alternatively, find a teacher, who can take the decades i mention above and replace it with years. You cannot do this without a teacher.
