  1. Where is Jeff? I would like to contact him

Exactly. And Jeff has been the kettle to many a pot.
  2. Where is Jeff? I would like to contact him

This is about projecting one's own shadow (to use a Jungian term) onto another individual. It is an observation and advice regarding a trait of human nature in general.

Still not done bashing Jeff? You guys are pathetic...
  4. Mahayana vs Theravada

"Samkhya (Sanskrit: सांख्य, IAST: sāṃkhya) is one of the six āstika schools of Hindu philosophy.[1][2][3] It is most related to the Yoga school of Hinduism, and it was influential on other schools of Indian philosophy.[4]" https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samkhya
  5. Mahayana vs Theravada

How about the story then that Gautama - after having left the comfort of his parental palace - knocked around with a group of Hindu based yoga practitioners first? Whose ascetic practices he eventually abandoned in favour of his famous 'Middle Way'? Which occurred to him after he had helped himself to a little bit of food, whereupon he took the first glance at Enlightenment... In my book, that story has always been pretty much at the core of what Buddhism stands for. Or is all of that wrong as well in your esteemed opinion? You cocky cat?
  6. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 5

Interesting that you see that essentially Hermetic axiom in this text. Care to elaborate?
  7. Mahayana vs Theravada

Au contraire, monsieur! IMO, it's more like Buddhism - as a new born religion struggling to take root - initially differentiated itself especially from its Hindu forerunner by emphasizing such revolutionary features as not worshipping any deities, denying the existence of the self etc. However, some of those missing aspects were reintroduced at different times and in various cultural contexts, although (as typically happens in such cases) in disguised form.

  9. Mahayana vs Theravada

I would agree to 'legacy'. Scientific thinking (of the kind we would recognize as such) was introduced in ancient Greece by 'master minds' like Plato and Aristotle and was passed on to Christian culture especially by Church fathers such as Augustinus and Thomas Aquinas. That said, science's prehistory is inextricably interwoven also with Hermetism - many of its pioneers (like Kepler, Newton, and indeed even Boyle) clearly subscribed to the Hermetic view of the Universe. Notwithstanding the regretable fact that modern researchers have officially abandoned that view ever since the scientific revolution. Good for you!
  10. Mahayana vs Theravada

The way bodhisattvas such as Avalokitesvara/Guanyin/Chenrezig are being revered is Deism through the back door to me. And it is not purely a Mahayana thing either; e.g. Vajrapani is mentioned already in the Pali canon. This is somehow reminiscent of the way the (allegedly) monotheistic Abrahamic religions in fact established a whole pantheon by introducing an extensive system of angels and sages. Which in the case of Christianity the Protestants took offence at, of course, which curiously brings us back to the OP... Thus the distinction between monotheistic, polytheistic and indeed (in the case of Buddhism) a-theistic religions is more due to semantics (as seen from my perspective).
  11. [DDJ Meaning] Chapter 5

Yes, I agree to your interpretation. The sage is im-partial because (s)he is looking at the whole - i.e. the bigger picture. Whereas the average person is often focussing just on this or that aspect of a given situation. That's why the actions of the sage are not always easy for them to understand. By the same token, the average person is easily being manipulated by purposeful magnification of a particular aspect. This is especially true where strong emotions are involved. BTW, it's nice to see some Daoist text discussion (here and in another thread) again!

Here is some constructive advice at last: DMT Researchers Advise Maintaining 6-Foot Distance From Own Body

And then to translate all this to so many different languages for the reader to choose from! Let me have a go at it: Because it is research conducted by a compatriot of mine who considers the hype about corona virus some kind of propaganda, I'd say... I'd say you definitely have the talent to become one.
  14. Pandemic Panic - Transcending the Fear

Just to clarify, I am not amongst those conspiracy theorists claiming that the pandemic is all a made up story. However, I do believe that what the public is presented with is a one-sided and simplistic view. So I share the following information in the hope that it may contribute to a more balanced view. https://swprs.org/a-swiss-doctor-on-covid-19/

I share the following without any claims as to the accuracy of any of the information presented. 12 Experts Questioning the Coronavirus Panic As always, decide for yourself what you wish to believe. And better choose wisely... After you have looked at ALL available information, not just what the mainstream media and the official 'authorities' tell you.
  18. Pandemic Panic - Transcending the Fear

You don't know if this difference is due to their different approaches or other factors, however. Moreover, it remains to be seen how things will develop over an extended period of time.
  19. Pandemic Panic - Transcending the Fear

Almost funny... Nobody talks about the war against terror anymore, now the war against the virus is on! And against any bugger who would be careless enough to lend it a hand, it seems. It could be worthwhile to explore how our current bogeyman mirrors our 'shadow' in the Jungian sense. BTW, that's a whole bunch of potential virus carriers gathering in one spot there! Good luck, Nungers!
  20. Pandemic Panic - Transcending the Fear

In a previous post, I already presented evidence of Holland now relaxing previously imposed restrictions. However, the one European country currently taking the most liberal stand on this issue is Sweden. https://foreignpolicy.com/2020/03/24/sweden-coronavirus-open-for-business/ The course the Swedish set themselves on remains highly controversial in the population, to be sure. Personally, I am in favour of their official (IMO) level-headed approach. Faith in personal reason and responsibility rather than imposing far-reaching draconian measures based on fear and (unproven) negative expectations - that's a rather sophisticated attitude they are adopting, in my book. Best wishes to them and all of us!
  21. Pandemic Panic - Transcending the Fear

I have always been a strong believer in the healing power of humour. In fact, laughing will boost your immune system, as has been demonstrated by serious scientists. So it is important not to let this virus bug bog us down. Along these lines, Master Ken talks about the upside of covid-19 from a matial arts perspective in the following video. Hope you enjoy.
  22. Pandemic Panic - Transcending the Fear

I have no further information on this right now. Hoping to get an update sometime.
  23. Pandemic Panic - Transcending the Fear

When I shared the following video with a friend living in New Zealand (where lockdown has just been put into effect), she was both surprised and outraged. She called the Dutch government's decision to relax restrictions now stupid and said it would without a doubt lead to "another Italy". While I surely felt sympathetic towards her, I told her that - all things considered - I did not consider the idea stupid. And actually, already on its way to Germany, the virus seems to have lost much of its fatality for some not fully understood reason. Fact is, continuing isolation of potential carriers and receivers of the virus is not only going to have socially and psycologically devastating effects, it will also be simply unsustainable. Far better to allow people to have controlled exposure to SARS-CoV-2, so gradually immunity can be built up on the large scale. Granted, it may not be a perfect solution. But let's face it, the milk has been spilt and there may be no easy way out of this mess. But cooperating with nature's course of action rather than resisting and opposing it - that indeed means choosing the proverbial water course way which the Daoist sages have been recommending since time immemorial. No doubt, it is a bold course of action that the Dutch have opted for. Hopefully other nations will be watching their brave 'experiment' and learn what they can from it. May the Force be with them and with all of us.
