內篇 Inner Chapters 逍遙遊 Enjoyment in Untroubled Ease / Carefree Wandering / Free and Easy Wandering Section

I budged... a little... But also, I'm not American, so... my position isn't really relevant.. Yeah. Any ideas on how to proceed? I can read the opinion, get irritated, come back later, read again and be irritated all over again...

Having taken a few shits in the woods... I agree. It's not so fun by a lake with midges swarming up your passage, but a good wood shit is very satisfying. And yes, if we pooed into relatively deep holes like is still done all over China and many other places, we could use dirty water to wash it away without worrying about dirty-water splashback (splashback being a problem in some modern toilets). I also don't get the fondness for wiping butt with toilet paper. A quick rinse is much nicer. And I haven't done any calculations but I'd bet that a quick rinse with clean water is more eco-friendly and efficient and sanitary than grabbing up wads of tissue (many people I've shared living quarters with go through unspeakable amounts of paper each week). Not sure about the whole of "Western civilization" being bad though (which one might infer from what you said!). I'd argue it's given us a lot of good stuff along with the degeneration. There should be a balance to be found...

Don't be sorry. Honestly an enjoyable rant. I'm always worried that I'll miss. It's a shame that even in China there's a trend towards the sitting...

Yeah..well.. for now I'm going to sit back and watch it unfold. Detachment might be the key to sanity.

I do admire your fervour. I'm not as fervent in my hatred as you, but I'm no longer denying that HRC is a bad one (I never claimed she was a good one, to be fair, just that she didn't seem as bad as you lot were making out). At the same time, the lack of balance remains. There's a lot of nasty stuff about Donald, and the fact that he hasn't been in a position of direct political power yet doesn't mean he wouldn't be dangerous, doesn't mean I want to find out what he'd be like. The sexual stuff doesn't even need to come into it -- we have decades of evidence pointing to the fact that he's a scumbag too.

All true. I have given up. Asking for anything in the realm of balanced discussion yields only, "Trump is just a dude, man, just a guy who says stuff, no big deal, might even be good for the country, has a great foreign policy, probably actually is the only one who knows how to fix what's wrong with this country.. but Hillary? Hillary is evil incarnate! Hillary is the personification of corruption, cronyism, criminality, and conspiracy! Trump's just an honest guy, though, probably will make America great again.." I don't believe it's always sexism, but it's certainly unbalanced. At the same time, now, I'm not finding much to defend about Clinton any longer. I still think she'd make a less dangerous president, but that's not saying much.

This shit is uncanny!

I do enjoy reading your rants, especially the ones regarding the ancients. I recall a similar post a year or so ago in which you were similarly indignant about age estimation based on bone degradation.. And we can bring the digression back around: yes, a muscular and voluptuous bum (with a strong core and mobile hips!) is something to be proud of. Movement, baby carrying, attracting people, and more. And we can, hopefully, repattern our own musculature with good stretching and movement in the hope that we might regain some of what's been lost..... I've been trying to improve my resting squat for the better part of the year (though not with great consistency). At the beginning of the year my hips were so tight and I had such poor dorsiflexion that squatting for 30 seconds on flat ground was a challenge (though still better than 2-3 years ago, when I couldn't squat at all). General stretching and doing my best to rest in the squat whenever convenient (not always convenient!) has helped, but recently slow & low squatting with a barbell with low weight (20-40kg) has got my resting squat noticeably more comfortable in just a couple of weeks. Just to highlight another loaded / resistance-based stretch..

Oh, I entirely agree. I've always found the Western obsession with breasts a bit OTT. I do believe that there's an evolutionary tendency to look at breasts as a signal, but the degree to which some guys obsess over boobs (and yes, more recently, butts) is really beyond me. I'd still have to argue that a few points of sexual attraction on women are linked closely to child-bearing/rearing. Aside from anything else, it is precisely when women start filling out that they (1) are starting to become sexually mature and (2) start becoming attractive to men. I know very well how it is to lust after all kinds of women, and am certainly not saying "Men only find young women with perky bums attractive", but the signs are there for those males who take notice: 'perky' bum and boobs suggest youth, voluminous suggests sexually mature, a bit of extra fat suggests good 'supplies' for feeding, wide hips suggest a better chance of getting the child out, etc. And the things you've mentioned are not (imo) contrary to any of this...

But... you're not saying that child-bearing and child-rearing have no connection to what men find sexually attractive. Just that it's not the primary function. Right?

This is the thing. You're not quite sure. I'm not quite sure. It's possible to find out, but not before getting misdirected and distracted by a hundred websites with such and such an opinion. So, she's testified about the email thing, yes, and my point was that technically she did not perjure herself, or was found to have been telling the truth as she saw it. Do you think Trump doesn't do that every day? He literally lies, numerous times, in every interview or debate or other appearance I've watched him in. He pretends that he's going to get Mexico to pay for a big wall, like some Brexiteers pretended they'd give loads of money to the NHS. Lies. I've posted a bunch of his lies already. She is no worse a liar. As far as the guns... as far as I can tell she has not testified before congress about this, as no charges of "You sold guns to Libya" or similar have formally been leveled at her...

Juicing, or smoothies? Smoothies would be much better. As Kar3n says. Fruit and veg are important not just because of vitamins and 'clean' and 'complex' carbs, but because of fibre and phytonutrients/phytochemicals. Phytos aren't essential but usually beneficial, and it is generally held that fibre is way lacking in most diets these days. When juicing, fibre and many phytos are lost. From the fibre article: "The best available estimates suggest that those ancestors obtained about 35% of their dietary energy from fats, 35% from carbohydrates and 30% from protein. Saturated fats contributed approximately 7.5% total energy and harmful trans-fatty acids contributed negligible amounts. Polyunsaturated fat intake was high, with n-6: n-3 approaching 2:1 ( v.10:1 today). Cholesterol consumption was substantial, perhaps 480 mg/d. Carbohydrate came from uncultivated fruits and vegetables, approximately 50% energy intake as compared with the present level of 16% energy intake for Americans. High fruit and vegetable intake and minimal grain and dairy consumption made ancestral diets base-yielding, unlike today’s acid-producing pattern. Honey comprised 2–3 % energy intake as compared with the 15 % added sugars contribute currently. Fibre consumption was high, perhaps 100 g/d, but phytate content was minimal. Vitamin, mineral and (probably) phytochemical intake was typically 1.5 to eight times that of today"

Are you talking about the email server thing or the Libyan gun thing?

All I said is that 'perjury' is technically not applicable. I'm quite sure she's a liar, but perjury can only be committed under oath and as far as I'm aware she hasn't been in court regarding this? I'm not defending her. In my opinion it is impossible to know what the actions and intentions have been regarding the role of the USA (and its agents, such as Clinton) in Libya, Syria, et al, but I would agree with you at least in as much as: it's fucked up.

https://verdict.justia.com/2016/08/19/outrageously-false-charges-perjury-hillary-clinton I don't have the energy to read the whole thing right now but accusations of 'perjury' would seem to be technically false, guys.

I like the computer metaphor Agreed that basically anything is or can be educational if one pays attention and the mind is expanded somehow. Knowledge, understanding, wisdom, whatever. Yes, exactly. Another problem from the internet and all this information is that people are, because of "likes" and "subscriptions" and "recommendations" and such, fed daily a load of information about things they already know or believe, with the result that many of us actually have narrower horizons than we might have otherwise, and that confirmation bias increases exponentially (we believe the things we believe even stronger because it's so easy to find more information 'proving' us right). Ah yes.. my first history lesson in high school was a fascinating account of the Battle of Hastings and the controversy surrounding Harold, and I thought I was hooked, but after that things got more and more stale and rote and I ended up with a terrible grade by the end of that first year.

Coincidence, yes, I wasn't suggesting that we've been disagreeing for any reason other than that we happen to disagree on certain things. And I'd guess that I've been the antagonist more than half of the time anyway....

Makes sense. I was picturing a more literal J, straight down with a big hook, which would've been a bit... frightening. I don't know about letter shapes, but my idea of good posture has been informed by 2 things, probably working towards the J more than the S now that I think of it: (1) 顶头悬 dingtouxuan, which I was taught as imagining a hook at the top-back of my head (between the parietal bones) pulling me upright (learned in Tai Chi years ago) and (2) working towards maintaining an invisible line between my head, shoulders/upper back, and pelvis/top of bum (so that one could place a stick on the back and it would touch all 3)

I'll admit at this point that, though I wasn't ever actually outspoken in favour of Clinton (I don't think I was, anyway), I was more vocal in my criticism of Trump than of Clinton, and this was partly based in a lack of knowledge of Clinton's past. I will no longer defend either candidate in any way. But my response to Aetherous concerned Trump, and I stand by everything I've said about the man. Trump and Clinton are both nasty little liars, and worse.
-
I stopped reading this thread on page 5, but remember that I had yet to read and respond to Aetherous, whose last response to me I neglected. I likely won't be clicking in here again...but just a quick response. I'm happy to know that you do not place less value on what I write, especially considering the mounting number of disagreements we've had thus far and your busy-ness is understandable etc etc But I would maintain that Trump has been obviously nasty and a liar for a long, long time, and that the only excuse not to have known this is to have had one's head buried in sand somewhere since the '80s! Right, but... thousands of them? And for some of them, the issue is not just celebrity businessman fluff. In my opinion it's a big deal for a potential candidate for leader to lie, full stop. Whether perjury or just lying in a hundred TV interviews, it amounts to being a liar. And I'm not going to defend Clinton, but you cannot place blame for most of the stuff in that paragraph on her...!! Mysterious deaths?
