Re: ----- "But why do people eat less? It is because they are getting sustenance from other sources than food. From life force energies, from proper breathing, from increased consciousness. That's the link that hasn't been connected by scientists yet." ----- I agree, and this is a very good point. Physical and non-physical food are complimentary opposites. Just like environment is both physical and non-physical. More physical food being processed means less non-physical food being processed, and visa-versa. -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "Things like diet and environment are of a lesser concern when compared to lifestyle." ----- Life is manifesting within the environment. Food is just the environment, condensed. There is not one cell of human being not made of food. In the Rig Veda is "I am food, I am the eater of food". So, without food (which is condensed environment) and without the environment, there is no life to have a "style" with. -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "A friend of mine recently died from a form of Cancer. He was a Daoist Tai Chi & Kung Fu Instructor who had trained for 20+ years & who practised every day & tried to eat healthily. Was his art therefore deficient in some basic energy practises ?" ----- Probably not. Except maybe the truly basic energy practices of not living according to modern industrialized way, which is killing all, no matter what practices they are doing. This is more involved than people seem to think. There is no one "quick fix" or one "right" thing to do. Rather, it is for many people about 100% change of direction in every area of life. I have personally met at least 10 people who recovered from cancer - even despite being left for dead by modern doctors - more than I personally know who have died from it. -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "I believe the path towards realizing the Great Tao is in the opposite direction of a human life, back towards the Origin,,," ----- Do you think normal human life is not returning to Origin? Where then could it be going? ----- ",,,and although it follows the way of nature, does so by going in reverse" ----- We exist within nature. Nature has no "forward" or "reverse". So, coZma, I am not saying your beliefs are strictly "wrong", but I am just try to point out that these ideas and statements are very, very open for examination. We should question all of them quite deeply, and never realy just accept them without truly seeing or knowing for ourselves. Many of these ideas are badly translated into western thought and conditioning as it is, so belief being added, this is not a very fast way to understand internal cultivation. -VonKrankenhaus -
Cancer is a condition dependent on excess and immune response. Excess is localized in one place so the rest of body can continue functions. Immune system recognizes foreign materials, like DNA from another species, and can eliminate a certain amount. Immunizations and overwhelming volume of excess makes immune system fail, partly because immunizations are using GMO animal proteins and adjuvants to cause un-natural immune response. Electrical and chemical influences ("pollution") also interferes with normal energy processes in the body. Cancer producing tumor is contraction of excess - meat, heavy fats, etc.. Cancer producing blood defects is expansion of excess - chemicals, sugar, etc. It is possible to influence this with qi - to add dispersing energy to dissolve deposits and tumors, or to add concentrating energy to repair blood defects, and so on. Results vary considerably, as people doing this know. Without changing overall living, these efforts are usually very temporary, or we could say much less effective, than if person just stopped doing what is causing problems in the first place - how they are taking in and expressing food and overall environment. Food is very condensed qi, and assimilation is the "unpacking" of it, and growth and movement (even if distorted) are expression of it. -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "If qi would naturally/effortlessly tend to accumulate rather than dissipate, we would all be masters by the time we die. Qi, by its nature, is like fire, it tends to rise and tries to escape." ----- This is actually the path of normal human life, which is what cultivation is also working towards. Those two sentences are showing more like "solution" than "problem", if you look at them carefully. -VonKrankenhaus -
The most powerful Qigong exercise you've experienced
vonkrankenhaus replied to DaoChild's topic in General Discussion
Food selection, preparation, and eating, is very powerful qigong - but most are overlooking and wasting this potential. Sex is also very powerful qigong. These two have more effect than all other exercise and posture qigong practices I have seen, and most currently known/practiced qigong is actually dealing with the "normal" (today) mismanagement of these two things. -VonKrankenhaus -
Can QiGong improve eyesight . . . or not (?)
vonkrankenhaus replied to Lataif's topic in General Discussion
Eyesight is varying according to expansion/contraction of the eyeball itself (mostly fluid pressure) and also according to expansion/contraction of the lens. The relation between these two is also affecting the flexibility of the whole eye system to move, to focus. Functions of liver and kidneys is affecting eyesight also - especially in relation to internal eye pressure, but also in relation to lens movement. Diet of too much liquid and expansive-energy foods like sugar and alcohol, combined with too much meat and/or refined salt (very contracting to tissues) will impede normal form and actions of eye. Nearsighted or farsighted is just different proportions of excess acting on eye structure and form. -VonKrankenhaus -
Internal energy accumulated thru neigong lost during sleep
vonkrankenhaus replied to healingtouch's topic in Daoist Discussion
Modern way of living is producing many compensations in the body. When awake, we are directing qi according to mind - so what mind wants is focussing qi on what mind is aware of. In sleep, body/organs is using qi to make repairs from all sorts of imbalances many times not known or important to mind. Even in waking, organs are transforming qi flow according to their balance/imbalance, but we divert using conscious motivations. Source of imbalances is in how outer environment is taken in to become inner environment. This means way of eating is not following at all the order of nature and is out of context, out of proportion, etc. Body using "stored" cultivated qi and flowing "acquired" qi to try to make balance when mind is doing less with it. Trying to "iron out" both excess and deficiencies more in line with real environment and normal functions. In this way, through misunderstanding natural order, qi cultivation is making one step forward, then maybe a step backwards next. Net result is slow cultivation, and eventually being overtaken by "illness" as many gongfu and qigong masters also exhibit. Modern understanding of qigong misses, or passes over, the most primary exchange with the environment - physical food, which is a crystalization of the overall environment in the form of very "compacted" or "concentrated" qi. When we eat, notice tongue repeatedly touching upper palate while chewing. This is breaking food apart and transferring qi using tongue, and brain is obtaining energy/information about/from what is being eaten - including raw qi, memory imprints, energetics of form, small bioelectric energy, etc, etc. Some of this "information" even is used to "understand" form being eaten and also environment. Organs respond, etc. Then, overall, this intake is becoming our expression, our actions and movements. Modern way of eating and living is not logical (orderly, Tao) in relation to natural "normal" energy transfers. This affects qigong and all forms of energy cultivation practices. -VonKrankenhaus -

Re: ----- "Dang that's hilarious!" ----- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitiligo Notice that "UV light" exposure is one of the primary treatments. Note that most images of this show darker skinned people. ----- "The agricultural revolution came from the Middle East about 11,000 years ago and brought with it a diet of grain and meat at the expense of fish, and, as a matter of fact, our Indo-European language. It is probable that our skin became lighter extra quickly so that we would get enough sun and Vitamin D, since we had a low intake of this through diet." ----- Could be that the thousands of years of Ice Age before this had some effect. The researchers and the quotes - these are incorrect, and it doesn't matter who is guessing or what their credentials are if they are just guessing. Dietary sources only provide a tiny fraction of the "vitamin D" that is made in the body in response to sun exposure, even eating barrels of cod livers cannot come close to providing the amount made by the body in response to just an hour or two of full summer sunlight. -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "So that disproves your claim that living farther north creates darker skin in one generation." ----- No it doesn't. Those posts were not the result of any true research, but were really more like freeze-frames of ISQG running around looking for anything to hit someone on the head with. The assumptions about grain eating causing a lack of dietary "vitamin D" that in turn caused white skin, are almost entirely incorrect, no matter who is making them. Anyone can see dark skinned immigrants to northern areas exhibiting de-pigmentation after some years being in north. Just go in major northern city and watching people walking around - it is fairly common to see. Providing dietary vitamin D supplementation does not produce darker skin, but increasing sun exposure definitely does. The idea of plant pigments, like orange carrots, changing skin pigment - this is not same as skin "color", but is just the excess fat soluble plant pigments being discharged through the skin. Sometimes in people with bad circulation and metabolism, this can take a while. -VonKrankenhaus

Look at all those words in the quotes, like: "speculated", "food production theory", "the hypothesis", etc, etc. Most of this speculation is incorrect - especially the white skin/"vitamin D in diet" guessing. Millet was not primarily grown near coastal areas where fish was eaten, but my original point was that "food" in general is a poor source of "vitamin" D, because vitamin D as we use it is a hormonal product of the liver after sun exposure, and not a "vitamin" in many foods. Today we see massive de-pigmentation of dark-skin people who have moved above 40 degrees latitude, in just one generation, while grain eating people in India and Africa are remaining very dark skin. And why call me "Von Cracker-house"? Do you see this sharing of info as some sort of contest? -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "The wheat farming is not like millet as part of a poly culture diet - but rather wheat as the main food source." ----- As was millet - in both Africa and China. Millet was a staple food in China before rice. ----- "This is new science. You can look it up or if you ask nicely I'll get you the references." ----- Hilarious. -VonKrankenhaus
-
Re: ----- "This is also the origins of white skin as malnutrition from lack of Vitamin D in the wheat diet." ----- White skin appeared much earlier. "Vitamin D" isn't a vitamin - it's a hormone produced by the body (in the skin and liver) in response to sun exposre, and is not present in many foods. Millet doesn't have much "D" either, but eating it for centuries in Africa hasn't produced many white people there. -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "So then by 5th millenium BCe you get domestication of cattle and so the word God is from GOTT meaning bull and Brahman also means bull - of course based on the men using cattle to pull the plows." ----- At that time, pole star is in the constellation Taurus. It's all Taurus "bull" symbols, and these continued in use beyond that "age". Just as earlier when the pole star was in Draco, and then it was all "dragon" symbols. Cattle were domesticated earlier than that. -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "Sometimes I hear laughs of young children and a parent, usually a mother when I practice in the cemetery near the park where I train." ----- You might want to be "cautious" practicing meditation or energy cultivation near a cemetery. Of course, there is no place exempt from spirit presences, but cemeteries do harbor dead spirits, lots of emotional/psychic energy, and so forth, and much of that will have no relation or purpose to your meditation, per se. Then again, this is a good location to enact meditative efforts to help others, including the dead. -VonKrankenhaus

I think all "teaching" is derived from the model of a family and the way children learn with their parents. When families are demised and special non-living "training" is "required" (such as modern concept of "job"), then this model is abstracted and will feature specialized "teacher" as parent surrogate. Parent is good model too, because parent is also living their own life while caring for and teaching children. In the old world there was no conflict, no going away to build Microsoft for Bill Gates and just toss kids into public holding tank school to be trained to do the same. Also - children are seeing spirit in parents, and this is also revealing ancestors, and spiritual growth is happening all day and every day as normal aspect of living. Old way was living in physical and spiritual the same. Professional teacher can be good, but is not really as functional or altruistic as parent, and not so revealing of life as it really is. -VonKrankenhaus

"Diet" is the most primary interaction we are having with our larger selves, which is the overall environment we have arisen from and are dissolving back into. This environment spans from the center of the Earth to the farthest reaches of the infinite cosmos, and ranges from metal to cosmic vibrations. All of this range we are making into ourselves by eating and living. There is not one cell in our body not made of food. Modern nutritional theory looks mainly at physical. Ancient way of eating looks mainly at spirit, because physical is all happening within spirit. So the modern science way would say "vitamin C" from a carrot is the same as "vitamin C" from a tomato. Old way would say that carrot root is expression of downward and contracting energy, and tomato is a fruit growing on a vine, and the energy from these and the effect from eating will be different. Old way is saying that we are absorbing the energy that formed whichever one we eat, and this energy is influencing us when forming similar structures of our body. I have been studying this for long time in relation to spiritual cultivation - which I like to call "ordinary life", because that is where life is heading all the time we are living it and beyond. Our conception was the apex of our physicalization, and all growth after that could be called "spiritualization" and is a returning to where we came from. In essence, this mean that things like The Secret of the Golden Flower are really showing the ordinary flow of life, but have become "exercises" in the more recent era as we have lost this normal human living in favor of domestication and civilization which arose after the last ice age. -VonKrankenhaus

Differences between Eastern and Western Taoism . . . (?)
vonkrankenhaus replied to Lataif's topic in General Discussion
Maybe better title is eastern or western approach to taoist thinking. There are many aspects of basic worldview different, and this affects what people see when studying - the associations and conclusions about both text and experience can be different for people who have grown up east or west. Now more people are being something like both, and this is making a bit of better understanding, but also each is pointed to and taking up the other in funny way - like some eastern young people geared so western that they lose ability to understand eastern thought so much, and westerners now giving up McDonalds and try to find supposed "yoda", etc. -VonKrankenhaus -

Re: ----- "My understanding is the dragon is really about the water energy of the Earth - since water is metaphor for the Tao also." ----- Standing on the North Pole, the Earth is below. At the time this lo pan scenario was invented, a person's head will be pointing directly up to the constellation Draco. The "pearl" that is situated near the dragon's hands is the ecliptic pole. This is a grand view of space and time. ----- "if you study Luis Kervan's book "biological transmutations" - they idea is that something can only be transformed from within and not from an external experiment." ----- He meant "in vivo" as opposed to "in vitro" such as might be done in an experiment. Kervran studied George Ohsawa's theories that the atomic table is a map of change and that atomic elements transmute into one another. Studying how cows make such huge skeletons out of grass is one example of a biological transmutation. The us army published a paper reviewing this idea of biological transmutation in 1978 titled Energy Development from Eelemental Transmutations in Biological Systems, which concludes in part that body cell is working like a mini cyclotron. Making gold out of nearby element in the periodic table is possible, but this is not done in a body, and also not using massive pressure or temperture. In future, these transmutations will find application to decompose nuclear waste and make rare elements, etc. Important to taoist cultivators, it was found that there is an increase/surplus in energy produced in these reactions (hence the cyclotron association). Experimentation with food, environment, and activity, with proper testing, can be productive in respect to exploring biological transmutation as relates to internal cultivation practices. This was the application I began exploring during and after studying with some of Ohsawa's students about 35 years ago. It remains a largely forgotten (anciently) and now unknown (overwhelmed by static and bogus "nutrition" concepts) area of study among gongfu/qigong people - but it has the potential to do what most exercises are an attempt to do, and adds a very large and important missing dimension to the practices that do exist currently. -VonKrankenhaus -

Re: ----- "cancer rates are growing dramatically in china due to smog." ----- If that were true, cancer would've been epidemic by the early 1900s in american cities, which were so smogged that there actually was an epidemic - of rickets, because so much light was blocked-out. Environmental protest/consumer/citizen movements in the 60s and 70s caused real reductions in smog, and cancer rates have risen plenty since then. Smog is not good, but consuming dairy insures that the smog will stick to lungs. Dairy is a major reason some people who never smoked at all develop lung cancer, and there are people who smoked a lot but never touched dairy at all who do not get lung cancer. Dairy, being product of another animal's mammaries, is particularly involved in breast cancer as well. -VonKrankenhaus

Re: ----- "Anyway, it's like the saying, "money doesn't grow on trees". It comes from somewhere...lets think about where that is." ----- It is simply made up. ----- "It's easy to say that money comes from jobs that you work. But then where do jobs come from?" ----- From someone who wants someone else to do something. ----- "...but then where do customers with money come from?" ----- Well, McDonalds was able to finance the construction of its overseas restaurants by using US taxpayer money. Of course, the taxpayers do not participate in any profits. Also, however, it seems that a regular McDonalds "hamburger" would cost about $200 if all the government subsidies leading to it were to be removed. ----- "There is even a human need for entertainment, and it can become very lucrative (for instance, look at the money involved in the NFL)." ----- I'm not so sure that the NFL was created to satisfy "a human need for entertainment" so much as to shape human attitudes and interactions. Plenty of money has been printed to do that, and there are always profiteers ready to go in and get some of it. -VonKrankenhaus
