  1. Climate Change

are they "“Virtually all the climate models assume there’s no or very little emission of methane when the ground is frozen,” Oechel said. “That assumption is incorrect.” The water trapped in the soil doesn’t freeze completely even below 32 degrees Fahrenheit (0 degrees Celsius), he explained. The top layer of the ground, known as the active layer, thaws in the summer and refreezes in the winter, and it experiences a kind of sandwiching effect as it freezes. When temperatures are right around 32 degrees Fahrenheit — the so-called “zero curtain” — the top and bottom of the active layer begin to freeze, while the middle remains insulated. Microorganisms in this unfrozen middle layer continue to break down organic matter and emit methane many months into the Arctic’s cold period each year. https://climate.nasa.gov/news/2381/methane-emissions-in-arctic-cold-season-higher-than-expected/ " Oechel and Zona stressed the importance for modelers to have good baseline data on methane emissions and to adjust their models to account for Arctic cold-season methane emissions as well as the contributions of non-wetland areas, including upland tundra. “It is now time to work more closely with climate modelers and assure these observations are used to improve model predictions, and refine our prediction of the global methane budget,” Zona said." "One of the world's largest reservoirs of organic carbon lies in the Arctic soil. As the permafrost thaws, microbes in these once-frozen soil layers transform the carbon into carbon dioxide and methane, which is then released into the atmosphere." https://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/warming-arctic-may-lead-to-methane-boost-abrupt-permafrost-thaw/70006351 yep the earth is warming, climate change Another major feature of our current period, The Quaternary (2.55 million years ago to today), is the regular cycle of ice ages and warm periods, cyclical swings in the climate system that have caused ice sheets in the northern hemisphere to expand and shrink more than a dozen times in the last two million years. https://contemplativemammoth.com/2014/07/07/what-causes-an-ice-age-the-many-scales-of-climate-change-part-2-orbital-cycles/
  2. Climate Change

Which is why unless one checks much of what is being discussed has no merit
  3. Climate Change

Another point I don't often here addressed. what if some country manages to do something using technology that radically changes its climate for the better. In most future movies is the asumption seems to be that humans will be able to control global climate. As a living entity on this world indirectly we do. What happens when this is done directly purposefully.
  4. Climate Change

Good sentiment one I can resonate with. The problem is that anything that has to do with climate is global. The third world countries are major producers of the things that are said to affect climate. They will not change feeling that it's their right to move through the processes that allow them to become First world countries. it's innovations by First world countries that have allowed total populations in the third world to grow beyond what would normally be expected for certain regions. the US has done a lot to cut down on emissions and has been a major leader in technologies used to do so. All of which allows people to live longer and longer life spans. See a pattern here? What are called the upper class and elite are often the ones complaining the most who benefit the most. They will always have access or on the things that they say are major influences in climate change. The science that I've read on it is really very inconclusive reflecting the sponsors of the studies. Not in favor of wealth redistribution or of some global entity in charge of all Nations which seems to be the point of the climate initiative.
  5. Climate Change

Something wrong with that, a natural adjustment happens to any species who over populate...Problem?
  6. Climate Change

what disaster would this be....remember the ice age that didnt happen in 70s always good to hear a long gone wise man
  7. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

Hasn't been my experience. Understanding is not knowing. Many things don't work , until one finds they do. Saying so does little in the way of conversation. Which is the direction I feel this one is headed on this subject. The subject at hand, many practices are changed as they become commercialized. They're always those teaching authentic practices provided one is clear about what they seek.
  8. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

An interesting comment. Good you understand a little of whats called fa-qi do you also understand what a qi chong is? "qi field" what it is,how it reacts, why and what one can or can not do with it. anecdotally, my own teacher in beijing had one of the students there ask him to try it with him actively resisting the effect he passed out and had to be revived, told to me by some of my classmates Had a good friend of mine a taiji teacher * come over with one of his students. My teacher did a little on him and he too almost passed out.... hes based in HI for those interested http://taijihawaii.com/pages/bio_evolution15.html
  9. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

Thanks for a good informative honest reply. Worked with CMA for over 45yrs and taiji for over 35ys spanning china, taiwan and other places in Asia. While I've worked with qiqong it would not be something that I would claim to specialize in other then to how it relates to what are called internal practices in taiji. outlines some of my history for those interested in where I'm coming from and have arrived at... https://journeytoemptiness.com/2017/05/10/beginnings/

with out comment. Adam has good skill, although a lot of his ideas resemble s-mantia which he has in his back ground. you mention kua. what do you feel this is? why is it important to have?
  11. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

If you wish to discuss it would be helpful to discuss.
  12. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

Have you felt or can do it? not defending or out to convince but would like to hear ones explanation of how they arrive at that conclusion, on often heard among others until they meet some one who can do it.....online what then follows, most stop posting about it. STICK, ADHERE, CONNECT, AND FOLLOW a very basic idea expressed in tatiji. What is shown in all clips are same things used at different levels of awareness
  13. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

    Nice clip, thoughts ?
  14. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

While I agree with the basic premise, I would not with the conclusion. Taiji just as any CMA art can be taught with different focuses and intent depending on teacher and students needs. The reason this is so rooted in the changes by different Master level teachers at different points in history in an attempt to keep their skill sets relevant to the changing modern world. Taiji itself as you may know can be approached on the physical, spiritual , and energetic properties depending on teachers skill level and focus. This means that teacher has to be totally honest with themselves and understand their own focus and clarity of practice. It also means that the student has to have some clarity in what they seek and look for. What one seeks, one often finds, without clarity this is often not the case. Ending up in confusion with students questioning the teachers teachings not understanding that they are students. In my own work, the focuses on functionality for fighting. For those not directly seeking this I give them away of practice that accords with what they expect, seek. if it's too far out of my range I suggest that they seek other teachers that I know who are much more capable in teaching what they're looking for.

Another clip of a teacher I like what a style I don't really care for. I find this teacher very interesting, watched him for many years observing the changes as he evolves in his practice. I've posted 3 clips all showing the same things expressed in different ways in some cases with different verbiage.
  16. Quantum Intent & Manifestation

Thought some might find an old book good reading THE TAO OF PHYSICS An Exploration of the Parallels Between Modern Physics ad Eastern Mysticism by Frifjof Capra http://www.aakkozzll.com/pdf/tao_of_physics.pdf
  17. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

As I noted according your experience. Not going to argue about it on line no point. Its not about leverage, or any of the things you've mentioned. In person it would be very clear With a single point of contact all is known. another good teacher showing some of the things mentioned and using some of what I've mentioned. all top level masters talk about it, and demo it using different verbiage.
  18. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

ya might want to check out "The mass moment of inertia of a body around an axis can be determined from the mass moment of inertia around a parallel axis through the centre of mass." Intent or what some might call feeling awareness is one way of understanding and knowing how to use whats called a parallel axis. restoring force another idea that we use in practice https://journeytoemptiness.com/2017/07/11/restoring-force/
  19. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

Explanations accord's with one's level of understanding. All that you've mentioned can be explained using physics. Using physics doesn't make it any easier it only helps in using clearly defined concepts or theories to show and help one understand what's happening. Even for native Chinese the classical terminology it's often hard to understand and requires an interpretation or depending on the teachers level demonstrations that they still may not understand. Or as is often the case many teachers can do it but cannot explain it, their answers practice, practice and more practice. Using physics helps, just as using traditional terminology and concepts. All of which are words unless one can do, or has felt. On other sites, it's often funny, if not strange。 Once something is shown that they agree on when written most will tend to argue about it as being faked, compliant, staged ect . If a clip is presented showing what they just agreed on.
  20. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

Not going to argue about it. There are many different ways to explain something according to ones level of understanding. the key is whether one can do it or not all that is shown in the clips I can do and have felt done to me.
  21. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

Also enjoyed the clip, for non native speakers it highlighted the science used behind what is seen and often joked about or for some trying to discredit what they don't understand or cant do. In Taiwan for some of my students having phd level understanding of physics. it was very interesting as I would demo and explain using physics . He would quote the taiji classics that corresponded with it. In our case in the line I was trained in the concepts used were based on yi, qi, shen which as some may know is a little different. My point being that a lot of what is shown can be explained using physics.
  22. Modern Taijiquan Sucks!

thought some might find this clip interesting "english subtitles" out lines why, what and how for many questions often asked when looking at high level taiji demos.
  23. Feeling when bringing awareness to dantian

posted before but covers some of what is asked about here. the teacher if emailed usually responds to questions asked.
  24. Ba Duan Jin Energetics Visualization

Ah,, an important point. consider the muscles used in lifting vs stabilizing understand the nature and function of each. understand how they are used interchangeable in the body. lifting and holding static positions its not the same.
  25. Ba Duan Jin Energetics Visualization

It depends on how and what one is doing. For some it could be a sign that the qi is making its way through blockages, shaking arises as things are getting rebalanced. For others it could be a sign of muscle fatigue to much or incorrect tension is being used. I would think if one has a teacher it would be best to let them advise as to whats going on. Otherwise, wouldn't focus on it and just observe, do not try to recreate it or encourage it. Do not attach any special meaning to it...continue to practice in time it will fade away what ever the cause being resolved by itself. The cation would be if it seems to be getting worse and is affecting the body in a way that is not good. Then the practice or any practice that does the same should be stopped until the cause is determined. Qi, qi gong practices, are nothing to play with . Even the ones deemed natural and unforced can have unintended affects if not done with some awareness of what one is doing. Always best to have a guide, some one who had done it and can show some affects of real practice. Many are into the theory not so much so the practice.
