I think this is true regardless of what one does in life...at least he " jet li" seems happy and content. I have things going on that I wonder if caused by my own work "cma" training...which was looking back quite severe as young teen....As a young teen who cares would ya gonna do live for ever...I know I really never thought much about getting old....like all things it has its good and bad points...

So Many Qigong Traditions : How To Approach ?
windwalker replied to rideforever's topic in Daoist Discussion
One might start by taking responsibility for thier own practice. Stop being concerned about what others do and focus one's own body mind awareness. -
only poor and wealthy....were do the apples and oranges come in... the narrative that rich or wealthy are lacking and poor are some more virtuous because of being poor a little trying .

"a particular attitude towards or way of regarding something; a point of view." no you can't and its ok.... regarding predators and prey its good not to be prey nothing to do with fear,,, very much to do with awareness

nope your not a lion, you can not speak for one....nor from the perspective of one. "A monk asked Master Chao-chou, "Has a dog the Buddha Nature or not?" Chao-chou said, "Mu!"

Are you a lion?

What you have at this point in your life is time. The nature of your question also means you have time...a hungry person does not ask what to do,,,they do....its self evident. The first rule to helping others is first to be able to understand and help ones self. The most basic, fundamental way to do this is by staying alive. The role of a healer is to help people help themselves if they can not help themselves there really is not much that can be done for them....no matter what approach is used. a priest, monk or spiritual leader are all healers, none of which requires anything other then a time investment and passion. you have the time,,,do you have the passion.

lots of assumptions about "those" not wanting or having use for, and yet many seem to live in big temples that depend on others to support the way they live....why would they do this if they have no use for it. Why have a temple.....temples cost a lot money to maintain and build.... I don't know how you ignore one hungry child what about the many, one might ask where are the parents of the child they brought into the world, why did the child choose to be born poor ect.... It seems many seek to define what the dao is based on ideas that they are not really living just feeling that its this or that There are others this is one. " notice that in most cases those that practice in this way do not depend on themselves but depend on others why is that? regarding suffering a nice story People suffer because they have a self.... many ways to understand the illusion of self .

wow poor people = good wealthy = bad I guess poor people who become wealthy turn bad wealthy people who become poor become good...

The military has many options for this. With lots of opportunities to apply it real time. Was an infantry field medic for some 10yrs before switching MOS's. All branches have a medical Corps. Civilian paramedic also a good gig . In most cases just requiring an EMT certificate.

is there? pain, discomfort, and loss In the US there are "unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. ——" one is free to suffer or free to be happy.... or in some cases choosing to suffer might make one happy

Which causes them much suffering because they deny death and don't seem to understand that we are already immortal. If they claim to be like water how does going out of the world square with the fact that water does not seek or avoid any place. it retains its true essence in a sewer or a clear Mountain Lake. Seeking immortality is not in accordance with the natural way. As long as you have a body it's subject to the laws of this world suffering in the beginning, death in the end, freedom.

Wow unexpected. How do you know this.

What the movie is about depends on one's perception. There's always suffering, the bottle just happened to be a focal point presented in a movie. The idea that there was no suffering before the bottle arrived is a fiction the narrative of the movie tries to imply. It's a movie. There seems to be a movement about that somehow implies Aboriginal cultures lived and operated in a much better Iife style then present modern-day cultures based on Western values. A fiction that soon falls apart under examination. Suffering begins at Birth and ends at death. All movement or endeavors by humans are really attempts to mitigate this. Even to the point of extending life beyond its normal end. As a grunt field medic working on some who didn't make it. It was one of the reasons why I left the field, feeling I was attempting to interrupt the process. We all die, make death a friend was my way to understand life. Over the years I've come to terms with this question long ago. I only mention this to help explain were my own viewpoints come from. Interesting thread.

good movie....my take the object revealed that which was already there. There is nothing outside of ones self that can effect that which is not already there. for example if one does understand a language and are called a bad name in it. often they wont react to it...its not real for them...once they have understanding it becomes real they will react....the reaction was always there.

If someone or something hurts your body or mind do you suffer or does it suffer... We suffer because we are born ....its the way that one looks at it and uses it that frees oneself from it....not something very attainable for most.

Let see if I understand The Dalai Lama good some agree with him. The Dalai Lama is also considered to be the successor in a line of tulkus who are believed[2] to be incarnations of Avalokiteśvara,[1] a Bodhisattva of Compassion" must be the Tibetan thing going on. seems like lots of negativity going on here For something that is nothing,,,seems like many here claim it feeling its something to claim one can not say they are a daoist,,,they are no need to mention it... my chinese name is wu-ming....no name They get it here, often smile in a knowing way a little surprised by a westerner with no name...

"The basis of Buddhism is a doctrine known as the Four Noble Truths. The First Truth is that all life is suffering, pain, and misery" Woa, glad that cleared it up. "The Four Noble Truths of Buddhism are stated in simple terms as: Suffering exists Suffering arises from attachment to desires Suffering ceases when attachment to desire ceases Freedom from suffering is possible by practicing the Eightfold path"

The Dalai Lama has a solution you may not expect

It's called fate. And hope. The parents will have the kids have kids in hope for a better future for them. They Inturn will repay this kindness. On the other hand the better the conditions are made for them the more kids they will have, understanding that they do not directly support them.. Which makes it much worse for the many already there.

Regarding the lion and deer. There is the prey, there is predator. Not good to be prey.

In Thailand the Thais look at the Beggers on the street, many with leprosy. While they feel compassion they also understand that they must have done something in their past lives and are now atoning for it. A better approach might be one while empathetic it's not attached to the feeling of empathy. Which allows one to do or not do what is needed instead of what is felt.
