  1. It`s sad to look at Westerners

Would you not say that this effect is "natural" as a means of insuring the survival of at least some or one of the offspring. In developed countries the time it takes one to acquire the skill sets to survive in them is quite long, much longer then in low tech areas. Hence the birth rate is reduced as more resources "education ect" are made available to the one or few offspring that a family feels it can support. One might look at the cultures of those countries that are prosperous vs those that are not. What is needed is a cultural change, within the cultures themselves. Not an enabling giving by other cultures that are shown to be successful insuring their own survival.
  2. It`s sad to look at Westerners

I think there may be some confusion. My point was what you've pointed out. Those talking about natural, like watching it on TV but never seem to understand what living the life means. Modern Tech, undermines the "natural" processes that many seem to embrace in talking about the "good ol days" For those who like living with or in what they call "nature" I would invite them to do so. Having been in US military for 20ys I am well aware of what living on the land means and how to do it.
  3. Lets Talk Obama - Was he a good President?

No Obama was not a good president I think historically it will be shown to have been a very bad presidency for the US for all the reasons noted in the OP post. I do not agree that “Trump” would have not been elected at some point in time, nor do I feel it would be so sure that Obama would have won if he could have ran again and ran against Trump … Luckily for the US this was not possible. What “Trump” is doing indirectly is bringing the US back in line with its constitutional underpinnings. Something that when examined Obama, knew quite well, and understood that what he was doing and did would change “destroy” this. His legacy is very easily being undone because he circumvented the process. What is damning, is his attempt to preserve his legacy in the last weeks of his time in office by enacting measures that would prevent this or at worst damage the incoming administration. ""By any means necessary" "I was not the one to invent lies: they were created in a society divided by class and each of us inherited lies when we were born. It is not by refusing to lie that we will abolish lies: it is by eradicating class by any means necessary. — Jean-Paul Sartre" oddly enough "Trump" is the one having to show the "lie" in doing so he can not use "any means necessary" working with in the process it would seem many have forgotten or no longer understand. Anybody else but “Trump” probably would not have survived this, which is why “Trump” as a 3rd party candidate is good for the US at this time highlighting how far the US as strayed away from its ideology underpinnings. Right person, Right time....
  4. It`s sad to look at Westerners

By those who need and use the most resources to continue to have big "litters" As if it's their right which some might say it is forgetting the rest that have to support it. How can "humans" be the problem when we are part of the earth. The idea of "problem" is a construct that only "humans" can apply to themselves as some perceive themselves apart from a planet that they live on.. For those wanting to live in a natural way would not this mean allowing what would naturally happen with organisms that can not be sustained by the environments they live in. Its one thing to say that a certain population uses x or y amount of resources, discounting the fact that much of the "resources" could not be used by those not having the technology to use them, nor develop such technology because of their living conditions. They don't need it.... What they need is for those having the technology to help them sustain a life style that is unsustainable instead of allowing what some have said is a natural process to balance itself out.
  5. Are the choices really free. "As long as this voice goes un-heard, the un-seen hand of one’s defenses will continue to shape one’s decisions, appearing for all the world as “fate.” http://focusingemptiness.com/index.php/blog Might be good to understand the source of the choices and why. It seems like the Dems, want people to make fear based choices, as do "some" in the GOP. Trump offers choices on what seems to be based on whats good for the country as a whole.... Pragmatic, needed for the long run. its a deep swamp.
  6. Focusing Emptiness

An old friend and my first CMA teacher. As a young teenager he had a deep impact on my life that would continue throughout my CMA path... Thought some might find his writings interesting . When we trained back in the day, Mike was very adamant about "realness and functionality" The style lama hope gar, was geared only for one thing and one thing only "fighting" I remember one day someone came into the gym asking if he would learn about mediation. Mike, looked at him and smiled. He said " If you want to learn about mediation, go to a temple or church, here we only teach fighting" http://focusingemptiness.com/index.php/blog "As long as this voice goes un-heard, the un-seen hand of one’s defenses will continue to shape one’s decisions, appearing for all the world as “fate.”" "One of the most powerful sections in Focusing Emptiness is the chapter about firebase Erskine. This is the story about a remote artillery support base during the Vietnam war. But it didn't take up much room in my book until late one evening, quite by accident, I stumbled across a website devoted to the survivors of those who died there. Erskine2 It was especially the postings of the children of those who died that hit me the hardest. Those postings called to me to try harder, to write something better, to write something more. But Focusing Emptiness wasn’t a book about Vietnam. It was about trauma, and awareness, and how our defenses can fool us into making poor decisions. And then something occurred to me, something about a theory I knew of concerning the children of trauma; that they these children might be more vulnerable to traumatic situations later in life, that they might be more prone to bouts of PTSD. But if anything, it seemed to me that my childhood had erected unseen walls that helped to block out the harsh realities of life. Indeed, I may have been less vulnerable. And I was never haunted by the ghosts of Erskine the way others were. But I did not escape entirely. It wasn’t until I began writing about Erskine that I became aware of just how far my defenses had gone to protect me. I faintly remember Top Johnston, for instance, the Sergeant with me there at first, calling me over to the artillery pit where the whole fiasco on that hill began. Making my way through the blackened rubble the fires had left, I was soon standing at the pit’s edge, looking down through the smoldering streams of smoke rising up into the humid jungle air. But then…that’s all….that’s where my memory ends. I have no recollection of what I saw. I know what was down there because I remember the Top describing it. It was the burned and fragmented bodies of those who were engulfed by the fire and explosions that had taken the entire hill before we arrived. But I don’t remember seeing any of it. It was simply gone." Interesting enough the title of his blog, http://focusingemptiness.com/index.php/blog my own blog https://journeytoemptiness.com/ A central theme in my own taiji work....
  7. .

Can you be a little more clear in your question. Its an interesting topic So far it seems kind of confused between "intuition" and "intention"
  8. Trumpcare

brings a different perspective to the conversation
  9. Do you have a blog or a website?

https://journeytoemptiness.com Just some notes for those I know and work the craft with. For those who happen to be in Hsinchu, Taiwan and are interested in taiji. feel free to stop by you might find this work very interesting..
  10. Obama's attempts at undermining American democracy

"What the law does forbid is lying to any judicial officer to obtain any means of surveillance. What the law does forbid, under criminal penalty, is the misuse of FISA. Both derive from the protections of the Fourth Amendment itself. Under section 1809, FISA makes it a crime for anyone to either “engage in” electronic surveillance under “color of law” under FISA without following the law’s restrictions, or “disclose” or “use” information gathered from it in contravention of the statute’s sharp constrictions." http://lawnewz.com/high-profile/yes-obama-could-be-prosecuted-if-involved-with-illegal-surveillance/ "This bring us to Watergate-on-Steroids, or #ObamaGate. Here are the problematic aspects of the Obama surveillance on Trump’s team, and on Trump himself. First, it is not apparent FISA could ever be invoked. Second, it is possible Obama’s team may have perjured themselves before the FISA court by withholding material information essential to the FISA court’s willingness to permit the government surveillance. Third, it could be that Obama’s team illegally disseminated and disclosed FISA information in direct violation of the statute precisely prohibiting such dissemination and disclosure. FISA prohibits, under criminal penalty, Obama’s team from doing any of the three." Team "Obama" should be worried right now...
  11. EPA under Trump WH

Seems like thats what happened in the last 8yrs...and before, are you suggesting that the new administration doesn't want to make things better for all Americans..
  12. Is Tai Chi quantum physics

Nice, while in China when one was asked if they “understood” something it was through the “doing” that the understanding was shown not through the talking or being able to recite the theory. . One thing about taiji, all things said can be proven or dis-proven many using basic physics. If one finds that this may not explain all things it only means that their practice might be very mature and they'er working on a deeper level, one that not many achieve. Or it could mean that they've confused themselves, missing it by 1 inch, off by many miles.
  13. Is Tai Chi quantum physics

Agree very interesting stuff. But to say "quantum physics happens all around us" is to my mind not really saying anything. its just a name, a view point applied to "something" observed that helps in understanding for those seeking it. What would one have to wrap their heads around? Used to work in the semiconductor industry. " As of 2016 the most advanced form of photolithography is immersion lithography, in which water is used as an immersion medium for the final lens. It is being applied to the 16 nm and 14 nm nodes, with the required use of multiple patterning." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Next-generation_lithography In this work one has to wrap their heads around it because at this level of interaction things often behave in unexpected ways.
  14. Is Tai Chi quantum physics

"For example Quantum Physics will show that a particle can be in two places at once. Taoism explains there is not-two. There is not even one, there is no-thingness. Scientists are like hungry people who are busy eating the garnish while missing the main meal. Doesn't mean they never have anything interesting to say but they won't find the answer to the beginning of the universe and the meaning of life because there was no beginning and there is no meaning :)" But they can show and test their theories and understanding. With this understanding they can and do, invent and make things that function based on this. If your saying they won't find the answer would this mean that you have the answer and can show and test it? What does having the answer if you do, do for you? questions asked in the spirit of discussion I've met many taiji people in my time who know the many theories of taiji but can not really put it to use...
  15. Is Tai Chi quantum physics

"We have a few physicists who post here. " On this topic? If so good, they should be able to explain or relate how they quantum physics relates and why and explain the difference between that and Newtonian physics and why one would not use this way to explain things. They should be able to offer examples that people can try and do illustrating the approaches.
  16. Is Tai Chi quantum physics

written long ago. good read. Would not a comparison mean that one was well versed in either one or the other to compare. How many physicist posting here. How many taiji practitioners here feel they are able to show how the art works according to the principles they write about. "I had several discussions with Heisenberg. I lived in England then [circa 1972], and I visited him several times in Munich and showed him the whole manuscript chapter by chapter. He was very interested and very open, and he told me something that I think is not known publicly because he never published it. He said that he was well aware of these parallels. While he was working on quantum theory he went to India to lecture and was a guest of Tagore. He talked a lot with Tagore about Indian philosophy. Heisenberg told me that these talks had helped him a lot with his work in physics, because they showed him that all these new ideas in quantum physics were in fact not all that crazy. He realized there was, in fact, a whole culture that subscribed to very similar ideas. Heisenberg said that this was a great help for him. Niels Bohr had a similar experience when he went to China.[1]" The names of the "physicists" giants in their field of study. "As a result of those influences, Bohr adopted the yin yang symbol as part of his family coat of arms when he was knighted in 1947." nice
  17. This what having no compassion looks like

How many asking the questions have ever been involved in the process? I've traveled a lot from the US to other countries, visas depending on type can be denied for a number of reasons by the host country. work visas, or other types of visas are not so easy to get for many countries including the US.
  18. The right to protest (ie: issue in AZ)

Kind of the problem many don't really read whats enacted nor, really understand the law....It's problematic as in the past 8yrs or so its been selectively enforced Which as some found out doesn't end well when it is enforced according to rule of law. I would expect things to change as the "protesters" find out there's a "new sheriff "in town one that's not on their side. Looks like one should get a permit, and understand what "protesting" means under the law. Rubber bullets,,,mmmm gotta hurt What I found interesting and also kind of funny, was that the "protester" expected the "law" to protect her/him from getting hurt while allowing them to disrupt others and threaten the police. Seems like the protester was counting on them just to stand there and take it...... They did try to allow the protester to go away,,,but then the monkey dance started, "monkey" lost
  19. The right to protest (ie: issue in AZ)

I think you might want to revisit that. The failure was that they lost a war. Nothing wrong with that as long as your not on the losing side.
  20. Defining the Left and Right

Neither which is why both sides are fighting against the current administration. The biggest threat IMO will come from the GOP. "Trump" has assembled a team some of which he doesn't agree with but who are proven in what ever fields they come from. Most in the gov. today are only proven in being able to stay in gov...which is not really saying much. as the criteria for accountability is not the same. The fact he may not agree with some of his team speaks to the fact that he looks at results and wants people who can and do get things done....hes not an ideologue. He's presented a new direction for the US. one which I support apparently many others do also he won the election. .
  21. Defining the Left and Right

seems to echo many of the comments here.
  22. Teachers who accept money vs. teachers who teach for free

I may look at a little differently. There is no free. Only commitment or not. Payment, is one of many ways of showing commitment. Becoming or accepting a discipleship is another. The question might be posed as to follow a teacher or follow a “way” or “path” As to reasons of teaching or reasons for learning. Who can say? Which is why I ask those I work with to be very clear in what they're looking for and also suggest to them others that maybe can offer what they seem to be seeking. Not all people are clear in this. I also make it very clear not to follow a teacher, but follow the “way” At best I can only help them to see and feel a “way” I've found and followed, hoping this will help them to find their own “way”
  23. CalEXIT

Said on a platform that allows you to say it that apparently you would want to break down. makes sense
  24. CalEXIT

The problem as I see it, is that none of those groups developed what they seek to change. All the "dreams" mentioned seem to have either have failed or became very bad "dreams" where ever they were tried or implemented. Can you point to any place where the "dreams" mentioned are good and did not turn into nightmares for the "dreamers"
  25. CalEXIT

options for what? didn't the US go through that with slavery http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/fed10.asp There are some very solid reasons why what your suggesting should not be done.
