Hi qicat, If you have a block of land already, maybe start with a shed first up. The bigger the better, could keep you out of the weather, esp.for mobile home. Also for storage of building materials until needed for you self portrait house. Time wise, new steel shed could be up in less than a week. Suggest cat2 engineered so less chance of blowing away. Then when you move into your new adobe abode, you already have a shed and spare accomodation. And much room for books, those plastic box with lid should keep the mice out.

The mere mention of bush fire sends a shiver down the spines of victims all across Australia. What of the plants which can neither run or hide from fire as it comes sweeping through the bush? Adaptation is one of the hallmarks of Australian native flora. Their ability to handle fire sets them apart from flora of other regions in the world. Not only have some of our plants adapted themselves, but some plants cannot exist without fire. Prof. John Pate from the Botany Department of University of Western Australia has studied the responses of plants to fire. There are two main strategies by plants to survive fire. The first is the ability to sprout new growth from protected parts of the plant, and the second is the use of chemicals from bush-fire smoke to initiate germination of seed. In a bush area of Wanneroo, north of Perth, recently burnt out by bush-fire, there are already examples of new growth sprouting from blackened branches such as Paperbark, Melaleuca rhaphiophylla. These plants are known as "sprouters", having the capacity to sprout new growth from groups of little buds under the bark. The dormancy of these buds is only broken by the heat of fire. The second feature of the "sprouters" is their very thick bark which not only protects the buds during fire, but also provides a store of starch. This stored energy is mobilised to start the buds sprouting and feed them until they have sufficient greenery to begin photosynthesis. Trees such as these tend to be deep rooted, up to 15 meters deep, and this gives access to ground water, the fire-scorched surface being bone dry. Another type of respouter are those plants with a swollen root, or lignotuber, in which sufficient energy is stored to support new sprouts just above ground level. Examples of these are Jacksonia sp. and the Southern River Gum, Eucalyptus rudis. The process of several years of natural regeneration can be seen in an a area of Kings Park, swept by fire three years ago. It is here that evidence can be seen of the second main survival strategy of seeding. Woolly bushes, Adenanthos sp., members of the cedar family, have not survived the fire, but under their burnt wood are three year old saplings. The species has preserved itself by having fire-resistant seeds. After the fire these have fallen into the nutrient rich ash below. Winter rains initiate their germination. Similarly, empty seed cones can be seen on a dead Banksia prionotes, Acorn Banksia. The seed cones are adapted to open their valves after having been baked, allowing the seed to fall to the ground. Since these plants take 5 to 8 years to be mature enough to flower and set their own seed, another fire now would eliminate the species. Research done at the U.W.A. Botany Dept has found that the chemicals contained in smoke are one of the most potent factors in breaking down the inhibitors to germination of bush seeds. Fire has shaped the bush in Australia in a way which has happened nowhere else in the world, and we are still improving on our understanding on these processes. Stop the Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China, Permanently!
AussieTrees replied to Golden Dragon Shining's topic in General Discussion
Dog rights? Airial shooters from helicopters cull, horses, pigs, camels, goats, deer,in many parts of the world. Seal pup clubbing, mutton bird season, dolphin cove harvest, kangaroo culling, the list goes on. In many cases the carcasses are left where they fall to rot and provide food for scavengers. We should stop it all. When it comes to dogs there is an emotive influence, stir fry dog and veggies with black bean sauce, mmm -

An ancient bond now mostly Brocken. Along with the horse the dog no longer so vital to survival have lost such honarable bonds with man. -
Quote Dalai Lama 13/march, Caring for others is the best way to fulfil our own interests. We are social animals; we need to be warm-hearted and to take care of others.

What would we do without trees, our home tree for so many years,of course we have developed together,we have forgotten how to communicate with them,it is not the tree who has stopped communicating, modern man has stopped listening and gives the silent treatment. It is no wonder that so many of the holy end there times living within a forest.

Quote Dalai Lama,"Positive emotions like compassion and loving kindness engender in us a deep sense of peace and serenity, and benefits others as well."third of April. We went to see HHDL in Geelong 2002,it was at the Geelong football club grounds. Much of his speech was in Tibetan, didn't matter, everyone could sense his presence of peace and compassion. Lost some sleep time as working night shift at the time,at the general hospital, assessing mental health presentations. So the HHDL,spent two nights in the Geelong region, and for those two nights working,no one presented for mental health assessment. No phone calls either,in two nights,at a normally frantic ED,with usual countless phone calls. At some point I did nod off, woke up refreshed and still puzzled by the lack of business, then connected it to the visit by Dalai Lama. Ocean of wisdom, floods across Geelong for two nights. Nil damage, many thanks, blessings. Edit add:https://www.dalailama.com/search/results?q=Ocean&x=0&y=0

Hi Golden Dragon Shining, Sought of changes the meaning of dog food. Seems there are too many dogs, just as in west,at least they not wasted. Everyday dogs are picked up off the street, then after a time the dogs are exterminated and dumped in land fill. A few are fostered out to new owners, most are not so lucky. Yeah they are cute, and this is the dilemma. No one says boo, when the rat catchers of the world sit down and make a meal from the rats caught. Some countries eat their stray dogs, good for them,no attachments. -
Seems we all like to talk, and rehash the days events,in our heads or with someone. Usually topics are light and funny and can be repeated several times when particularly interesting. Nothing odd we all do it,to some degree. What happens when the stories don't stop, and you subjected to a prolonged barrage of regurgitated 'need to tell'stories from the workplace. If it is a casual acquaintance, then we can make a real or fabricated excuse and move on. Not always possible if a more personal significant other/partner. The brother in law is a lawyer working or defending persons with a disability mostly, sometimes he will take on a criminal case, especially if there is a prospect of actually being paid. Anyway at times when we meet,he just lets fly,the judge this the client that, the outcome was ?,the point is,you can see he is passionate and excited, the stories are interesting, but there is very little two way exchange, after 15-20 minutes, there is a degree of tension building,as consider what's happening, and the stories continue. Limited is the insight,as to the effects his style of story telling has on his listeners. It's FULL ON. After 30-45 minutes listening mostly in silence, just the odd "yep" "yeah" "etc". The partner sister in law, then unloads about the same thing, not so bombastic, but similar style of ventilation of pent up emotional tensions, and around in circles we go. "Talk to him about it ?" "Aw he knows, but he can't help himself, and he just keeps talking, now I give him ten fifteen minutes, then I put up my hand.'Talk to the hand'. 'Talk to the hand'is tool that can work, have used it with few workmates at times. So anyone care to talk to the hand, share experiences.

Aeroplane travel, great, quick, get you there. Airport security "naked picture scanners",drug sniffers, explosive sniffers, suspect everyone,is the dark side. Few years ago we went to see off family at the airport, there was a midway check point, two security guards,"Take off your shoes"was the order,"What for?"was the reply,"Cause we want to check your boots","What for.","Cause we think you might have drugs or explosives in your boots" Well we said our goodbyes and didn't proceed further,"Cause what's in my boots is none of your business.

We change cause we seek benefits of a better way of doing things. Time saved or improved service delivery are the main benefits sought from change. Change that decreases time efficiencies or offers no benefits at all? Why change? Then there is the conspiracy theorists. Personal biometrics,ie finger scanning,is stored and it's use is not discussed. Electronic recognition already occurs now that we have converted to full electronic data recording, with personal logon required. No we don't want to use finger scanning, not sure that we can stop our group from being integrated to the finger clockcarding. We object but we also recognise job security, resistance may be futile.

Hi Bruce Qi, No personal experience with MS,friend living nearby has developed this disorder,he has stopped working and has gone downhill, now considering a wheel chair. What have you tried that offers some relief? What works for someone else may or may not, work for you. When you start a energy practice, just keep at it,the benefits may not be seen immediately. Just keep practicing.

Cry baby cry,for you are born new. Grow and learn to live within your body. Journey your life, knowing all attachments are fleeting and impermanent. Enjoy your time as a mortal living the moment of now. Experience the knowing, the forgetting, then remembering. Be at peace to all.
