How in the world does one not let this election stuff get to you
Karl replied to Taoway's topic in General Discussion
We can't even predict the weather accurately for the next few hours. More mystic nonsense. If it's read as a bit of fun then fine, but it's useless to set your diary by. -
I wonder how many times Monica said that to Bill ?

I thought this brilliant lecture by George Selgin might help a bit for those who think lack of bank regulation was the cause of financial crisis, or believe in the efficacy of central banking, or condemn the fractional reserve system for making money out of fresh air.

We have nightmares about NIPs dropping through the letterbox. Notice of intended prosecution. Usually a big fine, points, sky high insurance, a court case and a driving ban.

Bloody hell, that's actually corporations inciting paid riots ! These people are effectively employees of whoever is sending them out on the streets, as such there needs to be a move to impose minimum pay laws and employee protection. As they were employed without contract, then there should be no way by which they can be sacked as their duties have not been proscribed.

Ive found the YouTube of this marine speaking which, perhaps, coming from someone that represents the soldier ant of the collective, can be more fully understood as a rationally selfish individual acting to achieve his own selfish values to sustain his life and bring him happiness. It's only 10 mins and very inspiring. https://youtu.be/imTWP0do4Pc

It's that hole in your reasoning that bothers me. It's made you tribal. You have a collective philosophy which has individuals working towards a collective goal, instead, if you take some time to introspect you will notice that this is not true of you. We certainly do cooperate with others, but for purely selfish ends. I had a great piece of writing by a US marine who explained why he went to war. He explained that it wasn't a duty, nor for the greater good, but because he understood the need for freedom-his freedom and his families freedom and it was this that he fought for. He was saying how he despised the public and politicians that praised his apparent 'sacrifice', that it was neither sacrifice, nor duty, but for totally selfish ends and that people should stop treating soldiers as sacrificial lambs fighting for the collective. They fight for themselves and they come together in an enterprise to destroy a mutual enemy that is trying to take their freedom away.

I'm still trying to figure out what natural intelligence is ? We virtually all have the capacity for rational, objective thought, we must choose to use it. The nature of man is that he must choose to use that faculty, it isn't automatic, it's isn't a given. The moron is a moron because he chooses to be as such.
-
Individuals might find things work out better if they applied their minds in an objective manner. I don't know about societies, I've never met one I could talk to face to face.

I hear you, the thing about agreeing with you is that it starts off with a quick drink down the pub, but quickly deteriorated into a drunken all nighter; waking up butt naked in a gutter covered in piss, blood and vomit. If you could just keep it to a drink, maybe two, some light nibbles and a bit of music it could actually be a pleasant experience. ;-)

You make most judgements almost automatically. Our entire lives are spent in judging what we should do and say. Should we get out of bed or spend a few more minutes snoozing, should we wear that shirt with that tie, it's endless. We judge people in the first 20 seconds of meeting them whether we want to or not, we have to decide if the people we meet are sane, rational, or likely to harm us in some way. You are judging me right now whilst denying that this is what you are doing. I'm suggesting that this obsession with pretending we do not judge is deceitful, it is a mental evasion and a lie that we tell ourselves. We tell this lie because we don't want to be judged, we prefer people to like us and agree with us. The problem is that this blind eye evasion, this lie is a useful cover for our own immoral behaviour. It produces excuses for bad actions and once you adopt this laissez faire attitude then that is all that is required for evil to flourish. This lying to oneself is harmful to our consciousness, just because we think no one knows of our self deception and justification we think it is inert, but it isnt, it's much more harmful than we realise. We cannot see the damage but we feel it through our emotions and often on a physical level with illness. We can evade, but we cannot avoid the damage caused by that evasion. I'm suggesting that honesty really is the best policy, that integrity (the correct integration of thought, speech and action through sound reasoning and honest judgement) lead to the most peaceful and positive outcomes. That we should take pride in our selves for always reasoning objectively and independently. That positive outcomes come from moral pride which self reinforces our confidence and creativity. We are more just, more loving and happier when we are sure of ourselves as independent moral operators that reject any evasion of thought and apply light to any ignorance that prevents our having total integrity of character. You are free to choose that path, it is the hardest, but for me it is the only path and I will not compromise my integrity by straying one hairs breadth from it.

This is the ghettoising of communities in action. In effect these are the new slave plantations for a high tech economy, it creates a need which then requires a policy and of course taxation. Minimum wage laws plus welfare have cut away the opportunity for starter jobs, which instead go to higher qualified people from better areas in preference to those who would once have been snapped up for those kinds of work. The push to pay single parents, particularly single mothers welfare has alienated the family unit and many have simply given up trying to find work as it often counts against welfare income and state housing. This combination of welfare, fixed minimum wages and employment regulations has been as succesful as chains for the modern blacks and has rapidly been spread to poor white communities. Of course the Mexicans have a lower standard of living in their own country and therefore lower cost of living. The Mexicans will work on the black market and often need to because they are in the country illegally. The low skilled, less educated are trapped between a black market economy, a welfare cheque and a Labour price point which makes them undesirable.

Except that isn't true SA, it's the complete opposite. The problem is lack of responsibility to self and not individualism. It is the demand of 'duty' to the collective that creates the pyramid. It is the demand that everyone becomes each other's keepers that allows a ruling elite to exist. The person sitting at he top is not a president, it is the person that demands sacrifice from others, or demands that others must sacrifice to the collective. It's this sense of altruism that evades reality and causes moral relativism. It suggests that I may steal from you because you may steal from me, that this is the social contact-that dog shall eat dog. In order to ensure it, there must be a leader and that leader will extract blood and treasure to impose that altruistic sacrifice by the sword. The only thing keeping him in power is the people's will to abandon reality, reason, independence and morality. What happens is that ever more people are discouraged from honest production and self reliance. Human survival is reliant on the use of reason, independent production and the moral happiness of achieving value by a set of principles we call virtues. Misery, imprisonment, forced labour and sacrifice will surely follow as this path is followed. It is the way of the uncivilised barbarian and canibal. Each man shall devour his brothers life until non are left.

This was very much how many Brexiteers felt, unfortunately all that empathy began to evaporate in a hail of lies from the Remoaner press and politicians. I find it disgusting that these people care so little about their country, or the people they are supposed to represent, that they would do anything to create a division that serves their own ends. I don't blame the guy on the street who voted to remain, just the elite that seem intent on ignoring the will of the people and creating the sort of friction and anger that might well turn into violence.

Talking of judging, I caught the end of a program on black people. A comedian called Lenny Henry was talking about his mother beating him endlessly. He said that he wondered if his mother beat him because of her rejection in white Britain. Instantly he was blaming the white people for his beatings, instead of putting the blame where it should have gone-his mother had no excuse for beating her own child no matter how racist people were to her.
-
Then perhaps you don't understand what is meant by judging. You just made a judgement that it was 'tiring', but in actual fact we do so millions of times everyday. Judge people by their actions and be judged by yours. When people are disinclined to judge individual actions then they are asking for their own actions to be ignored. That's a dangerous precedent and the results of this kind of moral evasion are the cause of the worst atrocities in history. Some people find excuses for people actions and so find excuses for their own actions. This is the blame culture which has grown so strong that moral relativism threatens human survival because it destroys the need for self responsibility and moral action.
