  1. First Post - Introductory Post by Paul (Still_Waters)

    Welcome to the bums
  2. Some context might clear up your confusion about what Jesus meant when speaking about judging others. He mentions it agian in the Gospel of Luke in same context that you quoted above. Matthew 7 Judge not, that ye be not judged. 2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. 3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? 5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. Luke 6 37 Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: 38 Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again. 39 And he spake a parable unto them, Can the blind lead the blind? shall they not both fall into the ditch? 40 The disciple is not above his master: but every one that is perfect shall be as his master. 41 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but perceivest not the beam that is in thine own eye? 42 Either how canst thou say to thy brother, Brother, let me pull out the mote that is in thine eye, when thou thyself beholdest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, cast out first the beam out of thine own eye, and then shalt thou see clearly to pull out the mote that is in thy brother's eye. You will notice that Jesus is urging that we not judge without first taking a long hard look at ourselves. In Matthew 7 Jesus is closing out what is referred to as The Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5, 6 &7) to a multitude near the sea of Galilee. It includes The Beatitudes, The Lord's Prayer and spells out characteristics and duties of Christian. Judgement without self-examination falls into those categories, specifically when Christians begin to call out their peers without having "clean hands" themselves. Luke 6, often called The Sermon on the Plain, takes place after Jesus spent some time praying in the mountains and parallels The Sermon on the Mount, but provides a little more detail about what lead up to it. Jesus and some of His followers had been judged by the Pharisees for eating and performing miracles on the Sabbath. Jesus pointed out that priests eat on the Sabbath, but no one else should and questioned evil being done on the Sabbath and how a good work of healing was not permissible. The take away from the judge not portions of these teachings for me is to not be a hypocrite because you're not going to like it when it is pointed out that you have the same flaw(s).

This discussion is getting a little too cheeky. Let's get back to London, please.
  4. Hello from Luxin

You may post your work in part or as a whole, by link or how you please. The Esoteric and Occult sub forum would be a good place to put it. TDB is an eclectic and egalitarian community, accepting of many different views. Welcome
  5. Cosmic being

All she has to do is respond to the private message from @Fa Xin that she is your wife and she will be approved. Her word is all the proof needed. TDB welcomes couples, we just do not allow members to have more that one account.
  6. It is possible to avoid seeing and being drawn into discussion that might be distressing or deemed unworthy as topics of conversation for TDB. You must create a new Activity Stream and set it as your default, it can be renamed to whatever you choose. In the following example I will create a new default stream to include all areas of the forums except off grid. In doing so, I will no longer see any posts from off grid when I click what is now Unread Content (I will edit it when prompted) to the right of topic titles. From the header, select Activity> Topics> Content Type. From the drop down menu select Topics. From there, select every forum you wish to see in your new Activity Stream. I checked them all but off grid. After making your selections, click Apply Changes. You will be prompted to save your new stream and rename it as something other than Unread Content if you so choose. You may make your new stream your default by clicking the check mark next to the title of your stream. Notice in this pic, before setting it as my default, Unread Content is still listed to the right... If you choose to edit the title of your new stream to something other than Unread Content, It will be reflected after setting it as the default. In this example, when I click my default stream, Everything but Off Grid, previously titled Unread Content, I only see what I have chosen to see. I hope this helps those wish to not see or participate in certain areas of the forums. It does take a bit of doing to avoid them, but hopefully it will be worth it in the end. I am happy to help in any way I can to facilitate this for those interested and have further questions.
  7. I looked this morning because I knew this might come up and came up empty-handed when looking for a solution.
  8. Natural (non toxic) Cosmetics

I have seen some DIY deodorants and antiperspirants made with coconut oil, arrowroot powder, clay and essential oils. it might be worth looking for some recipes you can make yourself if you are looking for natural options.
  9. On a mobile device the default stream shortcut is the newspaper looking icon at the top.
  10. You can do that or you can navigate to your default stream by clicking the shortcut in the header, I have renamed mine to Everything but Off Grid. I have circled its location in the following pic... This shortcut is on every screen, in the same location.
  11. Being perfect is way too much responsibility. I will stick with being human. I corrected it on my end, thanks for pointing it out.
  12. The Dao Trumps

I have created a how to topic, here The unread content tab on the header you are referring to will always contain all unread content. You must customize the default stream that is linked to the right of the title of the thread. By default it is called unread content, but you can change it if you choose. I have explained it in the link above.
  13. The Dao Trumps

For those wishing to not see off grid on their feed, you can customize your activity streams.... From the header, select Activity then Content Types... From the drop down menu, you can select the forums and sub forums you wish to appear in your new stream. After making the selections of what you wish to see, click apply changes. After applying the changes you are prompted to create your new customized stream. You may name it whatever you wish, on my stream Unread Content was the default. You will find your new stream under My Activity Streams> Custom Streams. U Navigate to your new Stream and then select the down arrow, it will now be linked to the forum unread content button that many of us use. In testing this I set Off Grid as the only thing I wanted to see and edited the unread content heading to reflect that. The same can be done excluding forums and sub forums we want to adoid. It does take some effort to avoid topics, but in the end if they that distressing the effort will be worth it.

That's warm! We have only reached 84 in the greater Phoenix area so far today with a slight cool breeze. Of course anything under 90° here calls for a sweater.
  16. The Dao Trumps

Speaking of heated exchanges... It might be time to let this thread and some of its participants cool off a bit.
  17. The Dao Trumps

There is a natural ebb and flow of discussion on the boards. Some days it is more Daoist, others Buddhist, sometimes Esoteric and right now it is politics in the Trump thread. It is not our duty to appeal to folks to discuss what we want them to, but rather to make sure the rules are adhered to. Our admin has said many times being a mod is a lesson in cultivation. I would take it a step further in stating it is a huge cultivation tool. We have to step away of our personal opinions on topics and beliefs to allow other to discuss what the tide is bringing in. Our duty is to steer discussion toward civility when the need arises and nothing more. I was vehemently against off grid when it was proposed and for some time after it was implemented. Now, I see it as useful in that members can more freely discuss topics and mods aren't all that involved. Take a breath and let folks speak on the topics they desire. It is all in time with the Dao, whether we like it or not.
  18. The Dao Trumps

Off grid was created to keep more controversial topics, like politics, out of the pit. There is no need for the Trump thread to be pitted. It is not visible to the public nor is it archived by bots. Trying to control the flow or content of discussion based on what we perceive to be "spiritual" or not, damaging to cultivation or outside of our personal beliefsfalls well outside of the parameters of moderating the bums.
  19. The Dao Trumps

No, he does not. The Trump thread was split from another topic and was created by admin. The system defaults to the member linked to the first post as the creator of the topic.
  20. How do I Delete One of My Threads?

Give me a little bit and I will set one up for you. Also, get me a link for the topic you want moved. You can post it here or send it via PM.
  21. How do I Delete One of My Threads?

Personal Practice Discussion- it is a forum area set up for a member to discuss their practice or topics of interest to them where they can edit, hide or delete the content at their discretion.
  22. How do I Delete One of My Threads?

Do you have a PPD? If so, I can move it there and you can do what you want with it. You can not delay topics in the general areas of the forum.

  24. Weak Back Aura

Accountable? Find a new hairdresser and move on. I am sure she hasn't give you a second thought.
  25. Weak Back Aura

As a hairdresser, I can say with almost 100% certainty that they are not exploiting any energetic weakness you might perceive you have. They want to get your haircut done, rebook you, collect your money and move on to the next client. There is typically a mirror in front of you, you can see them and they can see you. It is not like they are sneaking up behind you to perform some malicious act. They are performing a service requested by you. Use the mirror to watch them and you will find that are cutting your hair and not attacking you from a position you seem to think you are vulnerable in. No hairdresser i have ever met, and I have met thousands, wants to harm or make a client uncomfortable. It is their livelihood, their source of income. They'd be without a clientele and out of business if they did.
