Vipassana and unblocking energy channels
RigdzinTrinley replied to grabmywrist4's topic in General Discussion
Ya know essentially tantra traveled everywhere because well - its nature But you have specific tantric lineages that focus on these things more But definitely - on a base level I agree with s.o.wisdom: energy and emotions are not the point They are stuck and at one point get unstuck through right view and conduct Its not about energy but the three marks of existence The sooner that is faced, the sooner the energy moves through the emotion moves trough Gotta face suffering of the whole thing brother bear - don't dabble or worry about energy Worry about sentient beings suffering through wrong view and conduct and serve those beings without ego. Sit back and watch your heart slowly untangle. -
That's sure as its light during daytime brother ralis

I'm in auroville and Pondicherry right now Read sri aurobindo for heavens sake! "The life divine" and read about aurobindo - one of the greatest beings alive recently, part Gandhi part ramana maharshi part rabindranath Tagore I read 50pages and am still digesting it Ok, I read where he wrote it next to his grave as well If you want to read a real titan then read aurobindo And yes it is real, such urgency in his words my oh my - no time for bullshit Now for wilber don't judge the book by its cover, meet him and talk to him Its hard to judge from so far away.... In my experience that would be mere intellectualism as well Love

I went through a strange crisis, on many levels I'm on pilgrimage in south india, the deeeeep south - its a very powerful place Anyway during one of my shavasana deep relaxing sessions (I was in big pain - on many levels of my being, but walking the path since some time I just learned to walk it no matter what, to shut up and don't complain just do it) So there appears this picture I remembered it I knew it from my mothers tarot deck - it well was a strange dangerous symbol one of the few I remember vividly The others being the lovers (its my birth card - is that how you call it?) The sun (trust me the sun is full power active in south India) And the magus That's the cards my mother pointed out to me, I was pretty small still Anyway the ten of swords burst into all this pain and grief (Shavasana you can go into dreamawakesleep states and the unconscious does its doings) So dear tarot bums SUN LOVERS THE TEN OF SWORDS In relationship to Europe and man and woman Go for it I know you investigated those topics (looking at brother nungali, who knows, feels, smells confused young man like me who don't know how to listen to the feminin deeeeep enough) I listen and would like to hear replies very eagerly

I met a palm reader and astrologer(jyotish) recently Interesting Indian fellow - knows how to make yantras, so a tantrika as well, anyway... I would like to know a bit more about mercury in this context- what ever comes to mind - the magician and metatron threads inspired me to ask, thanks Brian

Seeing, Recognising & Maintaining One's Enlightening Potential
RigdzinTrinley replied to C T's topic in Buddhist Textual Studies
There is this long passage in the BCA of Shantideva that is very much in line with what H.H. is saying. It made me ponder a lot and still does Not only is the basis of our body "other" and not "self" (the mothers ovum and the fathers sperm) Also everything that formed and sustains it is other, the air we breath, the food we eat, liquids we drink etc Everything we cling to as a embodied self is made up of other (I dare say exclusively other) If you want to use this line of conventional reasoning, ultimately self and other are hard to maintain relatively this body we cling to so strongly is composed of other and sustained by other then what usually think of as self - still such clinging (I just experienced the clinging to the body as self while getting a wisdom tooth extracted, what a blood fest - in India no sedatives for that operation just local anaesthesia) Made me once again aware that book learning and intellectual understanding do not equal embodied realisation -
Yes, these meditations of course won't bestow happiness on all sentient beings, if they would have that power then a Buddha would bestow eternal happiness on all beings, because he/she perfected them. like many in this discussion already said these meditations are about loosening the grip of ego clinging and also to prepare the limited dualistic mind to meet with "the eater of death"

May all beings have happiness and the causes of happiness That's how I know the first line of this prayer Happiness is not a random term in Buddha dharma, it doesn't mean the happiness of buying a new Ferrari, seeing your enemy loosing his job or the happiness of a tiger killing and eating his prey (those are causes of suffering camouflaging as happiness) Happiness is twofold in the Buddhist sense Temporal and ultimate happiness Temporal means - you wish beings of the lower realms to get a higher rebirth and a connection to authentic dharma (in my view that is not limited to buddhist dharma) And beings in the higher realms to stay there and follow the authentic path that leads to enlightenment The causes of (temporal) happiness means the ten virtues actions that lead to higher rebirth and happiness (not materialistic happiness or happiness that is the result of temporarily satisfying ego driven attachment and aversion - that is as I said acrually a cause of future suffering and in the second line of this prayer you wish beings to be free from suffering and the causes of suffering.) Then ultimate happiness means enlightenment, freedom from all suffering and dualistic clinging The causes of that are perfecting the two accumulations (the relative accumulation of merit is in summary connected with the 10 virtues actions and the five paramitas from generosity up to meditation -> this needs to be connected with the "three excellences" to be virtue leading to buddhahood; and then perfecting the accumulation of wisdom, that is connected with prajnaparamita - insight into non duality) Hope that will add to the discussion

Working with higher level subtle beings and spirits
RigdzinTrinley replied to Jetsun's topic in General Discussion
Its not actually a construct either, but I wont explain that now (I just got a late wisdom tooth removed, I'm a little spaced out...) Lets say I guess if the method really served its purpose, then it doesnt matter if one sets it aside or not, but usually the great masters still practice ngondro and their sadhanas even after realizing their true nature, but some (very rare) just do formless practice. For the more ordinary yogi, its a save way to strengthen ones understanding and accumulate vast amounts of merit - that in turn will enhance the formless practices None of the yanas contradict each other, they seemingly contradict each other but with some learning and practice its easy to see them as harmonious and one in intention and even the methods don't fundamentally change (in my view the methods get more refined and powerful but never really depart from shamatha/vipassana in a Mahayana sense.) -

Hi Brian, I'll try to explain a bit The yidam, as far as my knowledge goes, is not a being outside of yourself. Vajrayana looks theistic but is radical non duality, trungpa said non theistic fits better then theistic or atheistic Put very simply: the true nature of your mind is formless, limitless, unobstructed etc The yidam is a way to give form to the formless So you can have a representation(light, color, rays, form etc) of your true nature to work with Empty yet appearing, appearing yet empty A sort of bridge to get closer to actual meditation beyond any kind of grasping Its a seeming effortful practice that uses our tendencies to put effort, change things, manipulate etc and purifies them into effortlessness You can't separate mahayoga or yidam practices from an understanding of the unity of the two truths(emptiness & appearance) Or unity of wisdom/compassion etc. So to think there are a class of enlightened beings out there that are called yidams might be missing the point. They are also not archetypes in an Jungian sense btw I think without understanding the teachings of the second and third turning of the dharma wheel yidam practice might be a bit difficult to grasp without contradicting the teachings Its a very powerful method to actualize the main point of sutra, tantra and dzogchen (union of the two truths) Maybe that helps a little -
Had the exact same experience with Botticelli in Florence

Something like: Know yourself to be sick, know the dharma to be like medicine, the teacher as a skillful doctor and practice to be like taking the medicine Thats how I remember it - but there should be a more poetic version available

1)Giving yourself the freedom to take sedatives while traveling in local Indian busses (to ease the pain...) 2)developing a strange new found interest in traveling with local indian busses and explore more of India

I'll explore this later this year, they are meditation tools for psychological and spiritual growth for sure And magical tools as well ( being a follower of a tantric tradition that's all right up my Alley) But then again I don't know much and will let our hermetic adepts answer

I'm pretty clueless too, but getting into the subject (its fascinating) I would suggest to read the tarot bums section and also the discussion I started in this part of TDB "The twilight language of the charyagiti" Micheal talks about the fool in there
