I love the NYT, but in recent years, it caused me to cancel my subscription for the time being precisely because of him and Farhad Manjoo. The op-ed--especially from those two idiots--is absolute garbage, as they included pieces submitted by Carrie Lam and Narendra Modi justifying HK and Kashmir. I've also found that for every one good piece the NYT has, they have three shill articles in an attempt to be all things to all men. Honestly, they need to honor their demographics, and they can't decide if they want to bring in more Millennials or please the old guard, and the worst thing they do (like many groups) is expand the range of years that designate people as Millennials. The Times do have great investigative reports, but seriously, the quality has been compromised by marketing goals. On topic, I find the proposals set forth by Mr. Friedman fairly sensible, but again, it's fairly good, not great. What really concerns me is that the rush to get through this is not enough time to prepare for the world after the crisis is over, so planning and implementing can't come without even the necessary brainstorming.
  2. Dragon Door Training DVDs on Prime

I've used the Dragon Door DVDs before. Being filmed in John du Cane's basement and really low audio quality make it a bit hard to watch, but the movements are simple enough and accessible for beginners.

Life after corona: https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/14/opinion/stimulus-infrastructure-covid.html Though I have reservations about his predictions given that his book, The World is Flat, was full of platitudes and conjecture, as well as everything wrong with the neoliberal worldview.... ...as debunked years ago by The Atlantic in 2005, when I was still in university (Go Bruins!).... https://www.theatlantic.com/past/docs/images/issues/200510/world-is-spiky.pdf
  4. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

While the sentiment is appreciated, a recommended group practice are Sifu Terry's streaming sessions, as noted above. All students are encouraged to join in at least one session! I personally happily woke up to join at 0400 my timezone to join and benefited immensely.
  5. Falun Dafa/Gong anyone practice?

Oh, bother.... Oh, Roddy! I need a little love from another fascist pig like you!
  6. Flying Phoenix Chi Kung

Hello, please move this post to another thread or open your own topic. Sifu Terry has requested that we remain on topic as much as possible for the Flying Phoenix thread.

  8. Is it wrong to chase euphoria?

A technique itself is not a system. It's like saying a stick of butter that comes with your bread is a full meal. Feeling great and sensations are barely scratching the surface: That depends on each individual's goal and understanding of qigong, and each system of practice. False comparison. You can pursue sensations and joy all you want, but your practice is a journey in of itself, not the end result. The end result is longevity and good health, but chasing euphoric highs is not a practice, it is a desire.
  9. Is it wrong to chase euphoria?

Baduanjin has infinite variations and is simple to learn, so this is fine, but doesn't involve euphoria. You will find two schools of philosophy on this forum: one says that LDT is safe and fine, the other group (which I fall into) says it is harmful, but you won't at this stage in your self-taught practice be able to notice how you are being harmed. A couple relevant posts:
  10. Is it wrong to chase euphoria?

First you need to clarify what exactly your practice is, as qigong is not one system. Second, chasing sensations or highs sounds more like taking metamphetamines rather than a practice that is focused on the doing in of itself. You will need to explain what system you are doing because we can’t assume it’s Baduanjin or Fragrant, or even David Carradine Tai Chi.
  11. Falun Dafa/Gong anyone practice?

Except transitioning is what leads to thread derailment--this is on falun dafa and falun gong, not PUA life or dating. A new thread would be appropriate at this point as people looking for this are interested in the OP as a general rule. Keep your dating, women, tinder, and nightlife stuff to a separate thread focused on that or reference only when necessary in practice rather than extending it too long.
  12. Falun Dafa/Gong anyone practice?

Man, you've brought up PUA life in a few places already; isn't it time to leave that in a dedicated thread on its own at least? Besides: it's already frowned upon in this site by Sean the owner, who classifies it under misogyny. I honestly don't care as it gives me a chuckle, but the rest of the forum might be reporting you already, so you might want to dial it back or stick to the topics.
  13. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

He's a good intuitive. You can also cross check for Akashic reading with me if you want a second opinion later.
  14. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

No, that's the thing: GMCKS was a fantastic human being. It's the people who began to worship him while completely ignoring his main teachings who brought down the integrity of the practice and the group.
  15. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

The good juju is there, but in recent years, it's been affected by the work of the current group and the egregore work they are using in their group practices. There's a karmic soul group involved in their current issues, which is why I keep them at an arm's length these days. That self-defense book is definitely good.
  16. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

The head teachers are almost all Filipinos because it started in the Philippines. GMCKS is Chinese Filipino. Their headquarters is in Manila.
  17. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

Or she just wants your magic wand.🤪
  18. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

Yeah, and when I spoke about it, they made fun of me and said “ching chong ching” and said their system was superior to “immature martial practices.” The other teachers apologized because they know they have some kooks in the main group headquarters. So some are nice and open, some make you wonder how they are “masters”. No, I get you. I find a lot of people seeking yogic practice (mostly New Agers who THINK they know yoga) want to go top and onwards and ignore the bottom, but those with martial backgrounds tend to anchor their practices bottom up before the yogic levels. Need grounding before seeking highs.
  19. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

His own making but looks similar to other stuff. You literally just follow his guided meditations. That’s what I hated as there was no room for exploration, and some teachers say Taijiquan is a waste because martial arts are no longer essential for Arhatic healers.
  20. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

Yeah, it doesn’t have room for creativity. I worked with the lineage successors, but found something off about them, especially some practitioners are not only racist, but if you don’t subscribe to the near worship some have for GMCKS, they treat you like you don’t exist and are super passive-aggressive. GMCKS if he were alive would have hated to see some of those who are now teaching his life’s work for disregarding his forgiveness, tolerance, humility, and love lessons.
  21. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

Ah yea, Arhatic is secret. You have to sign an agreement saying you won’t show it. She can teach you Meditation on Twin Hearts and Superbrain Yoga, but she can’t show you the Blue Pearl or Dhyana and Blue Triangle meditations. Pranic Healing becomes a complete yogic system in of itself. I no longer do the yogas, but I can do the healing still. If Reiki is like a massage, Pranic Healing is surgery removing a tumor. And since I did Jyorei before, Jyorei is a quick shower in the springtime after running home and getting a little grimey.
  22. Pranic Healing - Choa Kok Sui

I learned it six years ago. It’s more technical than Reiki and NOT super secret; that’s probably just her and her sect. There is no creativity—you do exactly what the textbooks say for any condition whether it’s herpes or a flu, as each has you focus on prana in a specific area and chakras to heal with the appropriate colors of prana.
  23. A lot of practices could be argued to "just be legends" but the many experiences of people in the thread show otherwise, especially when confirmed by Eric Isen. One member, who had no background or interest in Buddhism, saw Buddhist imagery during FP meditation. Nope. It's your choice. If you are attracted to Buddhist Tummo, then you clearly have a karmic calling. I would just remind that practicing tantric Tummo and FP don't exclude each other. FP doesn't weaken tantra Tummo, but greatly enhances it. The practices are thus complementary and supportive. Please note I am not selling you on the practice of FP. I am only clarifying information for others who may stumble across this mentioning of FP in relation to the yogas. I am neither representing Sifu Terry nor teaching FP; I merely oversee his thread in his absence.
  24. The FP Tummo is more nourishing to the physical body. Tantric Tummo is more for mind purification comparatively. This is because empowered Tummo includes the blessings of the Buddhas as a way of its function. Both are very beneficial to health. There are many lineages giving exclusive and different Tummo empowerments. Either they have the same core principles with different ritual surface or means to access the energy, or they are all fundamentally different and there is no shared Tummo in essence. Please remember the legend that FP was taught by a Goddess in a vision. Its energy is divine and intelligent.
