  1. Dumbing Down University

I was on a Dao Bums thread occupied by these types just the other day. I left quickly.
  2. Spiritual Bypassing

I had another well known teacher who taught me to let the energy teach me and showed me I could learn more from play.
  3. Spiritual Bypassing

In college I had a prof who is well known in the New Age community. He was like this. He seemed to think Buddhism just magically makes you enlightened even if you spend all your time taking LSD and writing pseudointellectual garbage. He was my intro to what can be expected from most teachers along the path.
  4. Greetings from Germany

    Welcome!
  5. Everyone post some favorite quotes!

I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it. --Voltaire
  6. Everyone post some favorite quotes!

It is difficult to free fools from the chains they revere. --Voltaire
  7. The origin of mankind

    Great book. http://www.amazon.com/Spirituality-Imperfection-Storytelling-Search-Meaning/dp/0553371320
  8. standing meditation to help depression

Do ZZ watching the Simpsons or South Park. I find it works better than Inner Smile or Secret Smile.
  9. Transgender Problem

From a mod when they violate forum rules they agreed to. Otherwise it's just plain controlling and arrogant.
  10. Transgender Problem

Personally I enjoy people speaking freely. If I don't agree with their views I can simply ignore them. To me it's much more disconcerting if a group of people decide what enlightened communication/thinking is going to look like and then feel entitled to expect the rest of us to adhere to that. Reminds me of the South Park toilet seat episode.
  11. Yin over yang... Woman on top is when things get steamy. Kali dances on Shiva. Theres a universally accepted concept that gets filtered differently depending on langugae and culture.
  12. Absolute Self vs. Personal Self

It sounds like your cultivation is paying off. My experience has been the more you awaken the more you realize what's being passed off as spirituality is bogus. You start to see how the ancient writings don't mean what everybody told you they mean.
  13. Prince Has Passed Away

When I come out of meditation in the deep jhanas I feel like I'm on opioids for hours. I can induce the same state just by tilting my head and putting my tongue up. The state is so powerful I can easily see how someone can become addicted to opioids such as oxycontin or heroin. We need better pain management in allopathic medicine.
  14. Zinc again. Hm... Seems an important mineral in many ways. Neat article.
  15. The Golden Rule and Taoism...

The East seems to focus on individual awakening via going inwards. The Western traditions tend to focus on societal awakening involving going outwards. These are generalized ideas of course, with exceptions, but true for the most part. Where Western traditions have tried to go inwards they've come up s bit short (contemplative, for example). Where Easterners have tried to go outwards they've fallen a bit short in efficacy as well (Tibetan prayer flags, etc.) There are exceptions (Christian mystics, Gandhi, etc.), but mostly this is true. So when we look at Jesus' statements concerning ethics, we have to keep the paradigm of collective awakening in mind (the ekklesia) and not forget that Chiang Tzu or Lao Tzu might've had a different measure of enlightened living in mind.
  16. How would you define 'De'?

    Doing what works right now.
  17. Socialism does work

I was raised in a very left-wing family. I didn't question it for years because I just assumed the classic "left-wing = smarter = more compassionate = more enlightened" assumption so commonly encountered. When I started achieving REAL results from meditation and energy work, things changed... Here are seven things that cultivating energy has taught me (your lessons are your own): 1. We don't achieve things we don't cultivate. Nobody gives it to us, and what we cultivate no one really takes away. 2. Lao Tzu was right--limit and decentralize political power and increase and centralize spiritual/personal power. 3. Heaven's justice is blind. When we reach our hand in and try to "right" perceived wrongs (internally or externally), it rarely ends well. 4. Everything is a trade-off. No one steps in and gives everything to everyone. It's an absurd understanding of how energy/resources work. 5. No external source can grant you contentment. 6. Any practice that started with good intentions but doesn't work out after awhile should be discarded, not tried over and over again, ad nauseum, with slightly different twists. 7. Use your own energy/resources on yourself, then you'll be well enough to actually help others.
  18. Who here lifts weights?

Yes. Big rocks and barbell stuff. Enhances energy work big time. Stay flexible.
  19. What are your favorite qigong forms?

Standing in Wu Chi. Also, walking.
  20. Why Daoism over Buddhism

Buddhism has great praxis, but lousy doxis. Daoism simply admits the impossibility of a sound doxis.
  21. Too much focus on Kundalini in our New Agey culture. Just do a daily disciplined practice with a history of waking people up. You wouldn't be able to do that if Kundalini wasn't moving. Read the sermon on the mount...great text on Kundalini.
  22. ShaktiMama

She is wonderful. I still remember her placing her hands over my kidneys and starting to heal them. People will probably wonder about her age. She isn't interested in bodily longevity. It's not her thing.
  23. Kundalini Syndrome please help me.

Most negative K stuff is rooted in lack of trust. Gotta surrender and recognize she's smarter than you. If you surrender itll be more like Guan Yin than the Kali thrashing. Keep taking the mag, zinc, and fish oil. Those are helping too. Learn chi Kung...
  24. Pine Trees

A lot of respect for pines was the main result. In China and Japan the mystics tended to live in pine forests. I also had a mountain lion stalking me so there was some adrenal action going on...
