Thank you joe! Your diction is far beyond my grasp of understanding at this point in time. I understand bits and pieces and I'll keep trying. I understand that in very deep meditation you arenmt getting much oxygen, but you are technically resting more than in sleep. I'm just trying to figure out if I should contiously be breathing into my abdomen all through out my days until it's second nature or if I should just stick with my normal thinking and breathing until I meditate and then concentrate on my LDT?? I have knly read the first 4 links thus far. Im going to try to piece together what I can from the rest of them... Cheers!

Thank you dawei for sharing. I really appreciate your help in these trying times! So I want to look into learning qi gong from someone in my area at some point. Due to my posture not being what it should be my shoulder joint is often sore and sometimes gives me pain when raise my left arm into the air. So your saying I should try doing belly breathing for a week? Im up for the challenge. Are you talking about forcing large inhalations through the abdominal region? When I do this I can either focus the energy on my lower back or on my abdominal cavity. The base of my spine is very tense so when I breath into my lower back area through abdominal breathing for a minute or less, I can pull my shoulder back to hear a sort of pop or two. I can only do it once per few deep abdominal inhales. Im gonna try doing belly breathing for a week, but should it be super deep 'stretching' breaths or regular shallow breaths only focused on my belly area? And should I be focusing on filling my stomach so it looks like a ball or focusing more on breathing into the tense lower spine? Also, nothing really hurts when I massage my abdominal cavity. Also, some people on the forum seem to think breathing should never be forced. At least in meditation it shouldn't be, but it is very satisfying to breath deeply into the abdomen then pull my shoulders back for a nice few pops. Basically Im just trying to learn how to breath correctly and if there are any rescources that would help me learn how to. Ive sat around a lot smoking cannabis and such during my high school years and I feel it is the right thing for me to do. One last thing, I am not sure where my energy goes after being in my belly. I had always envisioned us was just collecting there and losening up any tensions, hence the popping of my upper spine area.

Anyone read "The Little Book of Meditation"? I just ordered it and some point in the internet are questioning his credibility. I just want to learn meditation after reading about all the positive effects on the mind.

Dawei, the reason I was doing deep belly breathing was because I can crack my back after doing it and Ive seen stuff about breathing deeply into the abdomen. I also see people saying don't try to change the breath at all ever.

Also, Im not really considering full on celibacy anymore, just trying to stop masterbation and releasing all the time like every day. I read every four days is good for someone my age. I may go fully celibate if I'm ever single though.

Well, I have begun my meditation journey and I love the effects. I am registered for 10 day Vipassana in August (praying I get in) and they told me I have a good chance of getting in. However, Ill be going back to college after that so if I won't there will be some time before my next chance. I am realizing meditation is my path. I like how it feels and relaxes for my mind and body. I meditated in the sauna and got tk the point of barely breathing (didnt feel like I was breathing). I try to concentrate on my nose, but I was wondering: is that the best spot to focus on? I got back to the room and continued the meditation and I came across another question: is it okay for my breathing to be in sort of a 1,2 rhythm as opposed to say a 6,12 count rhythm? What does this mean? Should I nudge my breath toward being slower? I am buying "The Little Book of Meditation" tomarrow thanks to The Energy Cultivator's Handbook thread. One last question: I have a pinching pain inches under my right (and sometimes left) shoulder blade that wont seem to dissipate. Any advice or should I just continue meditating the way I have been?

Interesting, I don't know how much technology could really help me during meditstion. I have been trying to distance myself from it most of the time other than this forum and for checking out books. I will try the guided meditation though. Thank you for your help.

What do you mean before doing a 'dump'? Like a bowel movement? When Im relaxed my breath is in my belly and chest most of the time, but I have to deeply inhale every now and then maybe due to som le sort of anxiety. I haven't been doing belly breathing, just focused on meditstion these last few days. When I do a deep belly breath, there is a slight tightness in the right sude of my abnomen in the area near the navel. I've read we aren't supposed to forcibly control the breath so I haven't been trying to breath in any way, just focus on the breath or my dan tien as an anchor.

Today when I was meditating I couldnt keep my attention on the tip of my nose for long before my mind wandered. And my mind wandered a lot. Every time I breathed without thinking about it, my mind would go directly to my breath. Also, if I was focusing too hard I wouldnt breath. This lead me to having to take forced deep breaths periodically through out my meditation. Any advice guys? My mom thinks I have anxiety. Sorry for posting so much, I just have no one to talk to about this other than you guys.

So, you think it would be beneficial to start practicing chi gong without being that experienced in meditation? And what do you mean by decent diet? Like staying away from processed foods?

Gonna look into Sun Salutations. I've enjoyed barefoot running my whole life so I think its a good time to start that up again. Wish I'd seen that post earlier while I was at the grocery store cause I didnt get any seeds, nuts or dried fruit. Aetherous has a thread on what to diet so that your energy channels won't get blocked and it's really changed my opinion of what I think I should be eating. Im gonna check out the book and video he posted. Any one have diet suggestions though?

Okay cool that's good to hear liminal. Even though the approaches feel a bit far fetched I may have to try them to see if they work for me. And Im gonna check out the free e-book. I have a book describing it perfectly. Have either of the methods helped your life? TheDustAutumn, so you think I should go learn qi gong in person straight out of college before I start my career? Interesting, would I have to learn Chinese? And I wonder how long something like that would take.

Thank you for your responses everyone, I am located in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Not sure if that's what you mean by location Spotless. I like doing standing meditation just don't know what the best posture to start with is. I would love to start a qi gong routine and I have access to a gym if that is said to be beneficial. So you are saying standing meditation and LDT breathing are the best things to work on spiritually at this point? And I should be doing it for a few hours per day?

Thanks for sharing guys!!! Yeah I'm liking a lot of things about this forum and the way it is run. I don't have a teacher or anything this website is kind lf a guide to me. However, I would like to find a guide down the road. Spotless, do you find the traditional sotting meditation will be more beneficial than say a standing meditstion (zhan zhuang)? Gonna have to check that out PapayaApple. Dan tien breathing has an interesting effect that I described earlier. If I do it for a minute or so Im able to adjust my posture. Im also strongly considered going celibate due to the supposed spiritual benefits.

Thanks for responding Jim D, Do you have any advise on detoxing faster? Or specific books to read? Would you reccomend doing dan tien breathing? Also should I be meditating without trying to change my breath and make it deeper? A lot of people my age have been exercising. Do you have opinions on what I should be doing exercise wise (sauna, cardio, weights)? Best Regards, Nick W

Hello everyone, I decided to make an account because I have a lot of questions and I was always looking at people's post on here anyway. I am a 19 year old college student. I currently do a basic qigong meditation with my hands hugging the air in front of me around my heart area. Since I spent a lot of time in my last few years smoking cannabis and even becoming dependent upon it, my energy body is not in great condition. When I do my standing meditation my hips and lower back sort of ache with in-breaths and I am able to crack my spine. I assume this means I am releasing stagnant chi. I recently was web surfing and came across semen retention. I instantly resonated with the idea of not wasting my seed. Im currently on the 7th day of not ejaculating. I had "blue balls" or tension in those lower chakras at times, but it was never that bad, and I always worked through it. I later came across a pdf about tantra which I found interesting at the time and then Mantak Chia's book Taoist Secrets of Love: Cultivating Male Energy. I also immidiately ordered the Male Multiple Orgasm by Chia and its coming this week. I enjoyed "Cultivating Male Energy" at first, but soon found reviews of some of the techniques as being marked as dangerous. I read Id be best to start off with Awakening Healing Energy Through the Tao by Chia. I also read Inner Smile and 6 Healing Sounds are more beginner oriented. I am used to going to the gym 6 days a week, but I'm starting to think Qigong, meditation techniques, and Taoism should take priority in my life. I'm also struggling to figure out if i should be releasing my sexual energy or continuing to store it. I don't mind spending hours a day practicing techniques, I just need somewhere to start. I want to know if I should dive straight into the Multiorgasmic Man by Chia or perhaps start with something lighter. I have a girlfriend and I told her I want to be celibate so I can grow spiritually more. She's on board with it, but I'm not sure if I think there is a purpose if I cant transmute the energy into other places. PLEASE help me guys. I would love to gain more info on these subjects for I have no master.
