Great comparison. Thank you for sharing. What struck me about the Apocryphon of John text was how unlike the other gospels it is. It almost reads like a Daoist text or something.

From the Apocryphon of John: The Inexpressible One The One rules all. Nothing has authority over it. It is the God. It is Father of everything, Holy One The invisible one over everything. It is uncontaminated Pure light no eye can bear to look within. The One is the Invisible Spirit. It is not right to think of it as a God or as like God. It is more than just God. Nothing is above it. Nothing rules it. Since everything exists within it It does not exist within anything. Since it is not dependent on anything It is eternal. It is absolutely complete and so needs nothing. It is utterly perfect Light. The One is without boundaries Nothing exists outside of it to border it The One cannot be investigated Nothing exists apart from it to investigate it The One cannot be measured Nothing exists external to it to measure it The One cannot be seen For no one can envision it The One is eternal For it exists forever The One is inconceivable For no one can comprehend it The One is indescribable For no one can put any words to it. The One is infinite light Purity Holiness Stainless, The One is incomprehensible Perfectly free from corruption. Not “perfect” Not “blessed” Not “divine” But superior to such concepts. Neither physical nor unphysical Neither immense nor infinitesimal It is impossible to specify in quantity or quality For it is beyond knowledge. The One is not a being among other beings It is vastly superior But it is not “superior.” It is outside of realms of being and time For whatever is within realms of being was created And whatever is within time had time allotted to it The One receives nothing from anything. It simply apprehends itself in its own perfect light The One is majestic. The One is measureless majesty Chief of all Realms Producing all realms Light Producing light Life Producing life Blessedness Producing blessedness Knowledge Producing knowledge Good Producing goodness Mercy Producing mercy Generous Producing generosity [It does not “possess” these things.] It gives forth light beyond measure, beyond comprehension. [What can I say?] His realm is eternal, peaceful, silent, resting, before everything. He is the head of every realm sustaining each of them through goodness.

I see Ausdao. My teacher moved some years ago, and I’ve always kicked myself for not training more with him the last few years. I can also share with you a story from my own journey ... I was in search of a Taiji teacher to further my study of that art and came across said teacher. He told me he preferred to teach Baguazhang over Taiji. I was a little disappointed, as Taiji was my main practice. I decided to try the bagu anyway, even though it felt a little like starting over. Boy was I glad I did. I learned more in the first class then I had with other teachers in the entire time I was with them. Not so much material wise, but simply because he shared with me without holding back. I got lessons on life and other wisdom I could apply. He also opened my eyes to the potential that’s possible with such practices. The reason I share this story is that sometimes it’s the teacher - not the art - that transforms oneself. Maybe there is a great teacher near you who teaches something else. It’s good to be open to other disciplines, as you can broaden your knowledge in many ways. It could even be a yoga class or something like that. i usually don’t recommend learning from videos, unless someone has had prior in person training to apply the principles. You have, so that’s also a route you can go. At one one point I was training with Jiujitsu friends in my basement. It was a far cry from Taijiquan, but again, I learned a lot. Finally, many times before teachers retire, they set up one of their senior students to succeed them. Maybe your Sifu will plan for his departure. Cheers

Great thread! My morning practice is a basic stretching routine, Baguazhang practice and sometimes play with my foam roller for posture and keeping the spine loose. For inner cultivation, its mainly connecting with a few deities, or playing with friends who are into that sort of thing. At night I do like to do some dedicated time... it could be listening to an album on headphones or just sitting quietly. It’s at this time I am able to feel what I’m holding onto from the day, and kind of clear the slate. It’s important for me to make time for that, especially when working and doing school/studies... it’s easy to get caught up.

Do you think you’ve been infiltrated, cosmic? I recommend all cults have a lie detector test to avoid such scandals. Test them out before they join ... See if they’re true believers.

Good luck in your pursuits and best wishes to you, Fa Xin and the TDB team Hi Ausdao88, Welcome. Maybe you can practice with him for the few months he has left? Unless he's not accepting students anymore. The good thing is, what he taught you will always be yours... and you can always continue to practice what he taught you. My story is similar to yours, and I've revisited forms I haven't done for years, only to rediscover and use them to get back to optimal health. I hope the forum helps you in your journey. my odd relationship with the search function at dao bums
Fa Xin replied to silent thunder's topic in Forum and Tech Support
So if I’m looking at My PPD and I press search for “whales”... it only searches for whales in my PPD. Its worth noting to go back to the main page and page and then try searching, as it will search the whole forum Ive gotten caught on that before. -

John 15:3 “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. 4. Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me. 5. I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.” A few points of thought on this one: ”word which I have spoken unto you” It’s important to note that Jesus as the “word” is not referring to spoken word but to the light/energy that he brings. The second thought I had is that Jesus is very much bringing us into the equation in this verse. We are an extension of the light that he brought into the world... This reminds me of, Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Galatians 6:2 “Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ.” This is a big concept/practice in some mystical Christian traditions, is sharing the light with one another... relying on each other and being the “branches” from the vine.

I agree. Life is the ultimate in cultivation - if we realize it. Many people forsake their mundane life to meditate, yet the mundane life is the ultimate in potential spiritual lessons and progression. It's also the hardest sometimes
