  1. I see it a little differently, but I understand where your coming from. It’s natural to close off in order to protect what we think is important. I wish you the best of luck.
  2. Why even be on the forums? Or interact with anyone ever, except your own clan? Growth doesn’t happen that way. My view is we are all interconnected with one another, no matter how much we distance ourselves from other people. We are all part and parcel of a greater thing. Some of the best advice I’ve gotten is from people who were passing saints in my life; placed at the right time or place to say the right thing and then vanish into the wind. Different strokes for different folks.
  3. How does suffering come to be

Colors blind the eye. Sounds deafen the ear. Flavors numb the taste. Thoughts weaken the mind. Desires wither the heart. The Master observes the world but trusts his inner vision. He allows things to come and go. His heart is open as the sky. -TTC 12

  6. We are wise strangers though! Sometimes anonymity is nice
  7. Very nice post. I’ve felt both of these at different times of life, and the difference is clear as day.
  8. Book Recommendations

Empty cloud sounds great. I’ve always liked his writings.
  9. Book Recommendations

Right now I’m reading Sri M “Apprenticed to a Himalayan Master”. It’s similar to Autobiography of a Yogi.

  12. Gospel of Thomas

Fascinating stuff... I never even knew about the Thomas Christian sect in India until I read your post. These latest verses do seem to paint a less-than-flattering picture of the apostles. I wonder if it was just for "educational purposes only". Edit: Surprisingly the wikipedia page has a lot of good info on Thomas https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_the_Apostle

  16. Rank beginner: Tai Chi or Qigong?

Good luck in your pursuits and best wishes to you, Fa Xin and the TDB team Welcome John, Both are very similar. You can think of Tai Chi as a longer, more involved set of Qigong (though there’s a bit more to it than that). Regarding health, both will be beneficial. Search around on the forum and you’ll find lots of info on both. Welcome and enjoy 😊 You are welcome to jump right in to the ongoing discussions, revive an older thread, start a new thread of your own, or start a discussion in the "Newcomer Corner" sub-forum to expand on your introduction or ask general questions to help you get started. 17. Gospel of Thomas

    92. Jesus said, "Seek and you will find. In the past, however, I did not tell you the things about which you asked me then. Now I am willing to tell them, but you are not seeking them."
  18. Gospel of Thomas

I can also think from the first question "Tell us who you are so we may believe in you" ... its possible to feel someone's presence if the mind is quiet/sensitive enough... No belief would be necessary...

Good luck in your pursuits and best wishes to you, Fa Xin and the TDB team Welcome Jinatot, I think many of us start out being inspired by some martial arts film or legend, I think it’s good to have an open mind and imagination about such things. 20. Gospel of Thomas

Sounds like he's talking about being awoken to the spirit. "Face of heaven and earth" is like the shell of things, the empty clay pot, the exterior and the body. Heaven and Earth are things that pass away. The last two lines, one who is in your presence, like your aware that there's another level to Heaven and Earth... your aware of the spirit side of things. Examine the present moment... you can't really do that if your caught up with "the face of Heaven and Earth"
  21. Gospel of Thomas

    91. They said to him, "Tell us who you are so that we may believe in you." He said to them, "You examine the face of heaven and earth, but you have not come to know the one who is in your presence, and you do not know how to examine the present moment."
  22. Gospel of Thomas

Hmm, where were we? Summer is over, it's back to school
  23. Thanks for the fun convo !
  24. I suppose it brings up the difference between desire and attachment. When a certain desire(s) become destructive in nature (and could be considered attachments). Maybe I’m attached to eating then? siva has a good point about the middle way. Buddha tried the ascetic path...
